Hitler's Romantic Weekend

Friends, what could be more heart-stirring than spending a few days in the City of Light...after you've just conquered it?  Few of us ever have that singular pleasure, but Hitler did.  And that's after fighting for four years in the trenches of the Western Front just to hold onto a few square yards of French mud, too.  One can hardly imagine his glee -- not that he betrays much giddiness in this famous snapshot.

All this and more is covered in this week's Newsmaker Show, starring me and Brian O'Neil.  In terms of current events, we dissect the hypocrisy and rank stupidity of the Left on issues of race and gender, the use of hyperbole in political rhetoric, the fate of the Dems' election takeover bill in the Senate, the impact of rising inflation and crime, the exploitation of January 6th by the Left, and the truth about "right-wing" violence in America, which is incredibly rare.

And in our "This Day in History" segment, we talk about the fateful conversation between President Nixon and H.R. Haldeman in the Oval Office on June 23rd, 1972, later refered to as the "smoking gun" that doomed the Nixon presidency; the elevation of Gamal Nasser to the Egyptian presidency, prior to the Suez Crisis; and Hitler's curious package holiday in Paris in June 1940.

Don't miss it!  Tune in today.

In other news, the Michigan Senate, which is GOP-controlled, is slapping down persistent rumors that massive fraud was perpetrated in the state in November 2020.  The findings don't eliminate the possibility that individuals may have cheated, but it does make it harder and harder to sustain the notion that the Democratic Party stole the election outright.  My own view is that, while there are plenty of valid reasons to believe that the 2020 election was "rigged", many of the wilder "conspiracy theories" about election fraud are likely to be false.  C'est la vie.

Not surprisingly, the American people have very little faith in the mainstream news media.  And this, for Republicans and conservatives, is actually very good news. because, if the voters believed what CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, and NBC were telling them, we'd be sunk, for sure.  Their skepticism, on the hand, will drive them increasingly to alternative media sources, where the right-wing perspective flourishes.

  1. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Re: the broadcast: Perhaps the left has , thru overuse, misuse and belated conservative determination to answer in kind and in confidence, begun to discredit their casual and presumptuous use the epithet Nazi. Their '60's mentor Saul Alinsky ( yeah someone on the left, try to convince me that his Rules for Radicals were meant both for the left AND right)famously urged the aggressive use of ridicule and I know from experience that the criminals the left exalts (and imitates)customarily attempt to summarily place those who oppose them on the defensive.

  2. Dr.Waddy from Jack: again re the broadcast: Do the Dems have a political "death wish". Yeah do it Dems! Keep standing up for thugs! Keep advancing proposals to release 55 year olds from life sentences. Gee, are 55 year olds incapable of pulling a trigger? But then of course if the Dems have their way with gun control there will be no guns in the hands of proven criminals, yes? Why bless me for a fool. Yeah Dems, keep disempowering the police until of course its YOU who gets victimized. I think you are full of it and I vote!

  3. Dr.Waddy from Jack: I mean, go ahead Dems if it floats your boat (though, uhh, I'd recommend you STEP OFF from the police). I'd love to see you all relegated to sweltering tents at county fairs along with other grotesqueries like aging exhibitionists, bearded clams and Hillary Clinton!

  4. Dr.Waddy from Jack: " Politics is mostly about controlling the narrative". Thanx Doc;its true, true, true!

  5. Dr.Waddy from Jack: Again re the broadcast: President Nixon, a self made man, did experience serious anxiety that once again an aristocratic Kennedy, despite the onus of his now revealed Kennedy presumptuousness, would humiliate him again in 1972. We cannot sympathize with his apparent remedial actions but we may emphathize, yes? And I do see a possible parallel to Nixon's concerns about damaging national security info emerging from the FBIWatergate investigation, to the 2016 FBI vestigation of Hillary Rodham which DID inadvertently reveal such insights.

  6. Dr.Waddy from Jack: re the 1956 Suez crisis: Ike was firmly determined not to support what he saw as atavistic colonialism. Accordingly to one account, he went as far as to threaten Anthony Eden with very much damage to the still recovering Brit economy.

  7. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Again the broadcast: Hitler in Paris! What a striking image. He was shown doing reverence to Napoleon; but I think Napoleon wou!d have despised him. For one thing, Napoleon deplored and acted aainst, antisemitism. Hitler would have
been utter!y incapab!d of directing the formation of the Napoleonic Code, which has survived beyond the "Thousand Year Reich". But one can objective!y empathize, without sympathy, with his elation at French defeat. Consider his ordea! in the WWI trenchs. Consider also the perhaps ill advised Versailles treaty. Luckily he perhaps thereby underestimated the power of those he meant to reduce!

  8. Jack, I have to believe that, by this point, the Left's endless charges of "racism!" and "Nazi!" fall on deaf ears. Having said that, I don't think the elctorate has much fear of "Communism!" left either, if they ever did. Remember, the huddled masses can't even tell communism and Nazism apart...

Jack, I would strongly suspect that, insofar as he harbored sometimes paranoid fears of his political rivals, Nixon was merely a typical politician. Trump, alone of recent presidents, freely gives voice to his paranoia. I applaud his candor!

Personally, I think the U.S. erred in pushing for Britain's retreat from empire. For that matter, we may well have accelerated France's departure from Indo-China. Brilliant! (Not!) We were determined to take the wheel, as it were, and not always to our clear advantage.

Jack, the West can thank its lucky stars that Hitler had lived such a clositered life up to his accession to power. If he had understood England, France, and America better (not to mention Russia), he would have been a far more formidable adversary!

As for whether Hitler and Napoleon would have gotten along, I haven't a clue. The parallels between them are more than a little intriguing, though. One that leaps to mind: both seemed utterly indifferent to the suffering and bloodshed they unleashed.

  9. Dr.Waddy from Jack: You are right. Imagine Hitler thinking "why Poland, Austria, Czechoslovakia, the Netherlands,LUXEMBERG, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, and indomitable France! Why tomorrow die Welt!!"

  10. Dr. Waddy from Jack: To the general public I would guess its widely perceived that the Nazis and the commies were both absolute SOBs. But what may well not be understood by them is that totalitarian commie intent has been inherited by an increasingly powerful faction of our polity.

  11. Good point, Jack. It's less important that the public understand the finer points of ideology than that they develop an instinctive aversion to authoritarianism and totalitarianism in general!
