Same Old Same Old

Friends, Trump's cabinet meeting today projected optimism and a degree of self-congratulation, as per usual, but the truth is that we seem to be stuck in the same old loop regarding the conflict with Iran.  Negotiations continue, as do occasional military strikes and dueling blockades, but neither side appears willing to give significant ground.  Liberals and most Trump haters worldwide believe implicitly that Iran has won so far, is winning, and will win in the end, but I, for one, am less sure.  Trump seems gun-shy about launching major new strikes, but despite this reticence I don't see how Iran can survive the shuttering of its oil industry for much longer, or indeed how the world can continue to tolerate Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz much longer.  Of course, timing is everything, and we can't rule out the possibility that midterm-minded DJT will blink before the mullahs.  My advice, at any rate, is to tighten the screws economically and drop bombs liberally, if that's what it takes to drive home the futility of Iran's strategy.  And -- for the love of all that's holy -- let's seize that Strait and stop allowing a few Islamist motor boat enthusiasts to hold the world hostage!!!  Enough is enough.

In other news, Chinese carmakers are coming on strong in many parts of the world, including China itself.  One wonders, furthermore, what share of the U.S. market they could capture if prohibitively high tariffs weren't keeping them out.  Deindustrialization may have been all fun and games up to now, or at least it may have been broadly survivable for the West, but could we withstand the evisceration of our auto industry?  We may someday find out.  And, frankly, we may deserve to, given the ridicuously high cost of new cars these days.

Finally, the Pope has decided to expend a lot of political/spiritual capital in the fight against A.I.  He wrote a whole encyclical about it.  I must admit, I don't understand half of what the Pope says about A.I., which isn't a great surprise since no one really seems to comprehend what A.I. is, what it can do, and what its proper role ought to be.  My own view is that no one needs to worry about A.I. replacing humans, because it was never designed to do so and is no substitute for humanity, but what we do need to worry about is humanity giving up on itself.  Our self-confidence, our sense of meaning, and our grasp of any kind of collective purpose are waning.  Neo-Marxism offers nothing except a warmed-over materialism.  We should be very anxious, therefore, not about A.I. itself, but about what jaded, depressed, and fundamentally lazy humans will do with it.  "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, But in ourselves..."

Endgame?

Friends, news reports conflict on what exactly the U.S. and Iran may be on the cusp of agreeing to...  Some say it's basically a glorified ceasefire, with the Strait opened and Iran able to sell its oil again, but nothing but a commitment to ongoing negotiations on matters of real substance, like Iran's nuclear program.  That would be a DISASTER.  It would mean giving up all our leverage for nothing but empty promises.  Trump himself, however, says that our blockade on Iran will remain in effect until a full and complete agreement is concluded.  Perhaps between these two positions there are infinite shades of gray (or obfuscation, if you prefer)?  My take is that we need to get this right: we need to win conclusive and historic victories over Iran, and lastingly end the threat they pose to us and to the region, and if that requires more financial sacrifice from the American people for a few more weeks, or months, so be it.  Surrender is not an option!!!

Oh, Alberta!

Friends, the province of Alberta will hold a referendum on whether or not to proceed with secession from Canada.  Oh my!  A lot of Trumpers find this very exciting, because they imagine that Alberta will join the U.S., or it will be the catalyst for a broader breakup of Canada that will lead, in time, to the incorporation of all of it in these United States.  Well, maybe, but the truth is that the vast majority of Albertans appear to be opposed to secession, so we shouldn't get our hopes up.  Still, one assumes the people of Alberta will have a very fierce debate on the subject in the months ahead, and, even if Alberta doesn't become a country, it may well extract important concessions from Ottawa.

In other news, Tulsi Gabbard is resigning from Trump's cabinet, because her husband is battling cancer.  Is that the real reason, or is this yet another purge?  Hard to say, but I think most people would agree that Gabbard has been a disappointment as Director of National Intelligence.  Conservatives expected her to create a whole lot of turmoil in that ossified, generally unaccountable community, and she simply hasn't.

It's official: the border is closed AND three million former illegal immigrants are now languishing on the correct side of it!  This is a phenomenal accomplishment, and everyone who voted for DJT should take great solace in it.

https://nypost.com/2026/05/21/us-news/stunning-number-of-illegal-migrants-who-have-been-deported-from-us-or-left-voluntarily-revealed-by-dhs/

Finally, there's no denying that higher gas prices are causing a spike in overall inflation, and both of these trends are hurting consumer sentiment, as well as Trump's poll numbers.  The conflict with Iran is thus a political drag on Republicans, and an economic drag on the country, but that doesn't mean that the "war" isn't worth waging.  I continue to believe that it will be long over by the time the midterms roll around, and that, when it is over, we will have destroyed much of Iran's military potential AND extracted significant concessions in terms of the Islamic Republic's enriched uranium stockpile, its support of terrorists and regional troublemakers, and its outrageous pretensions to control the Strait of Hormuz.  Keep up the pressure, DJT!  It's bound to work eventually.

Cuba Libre!

Friends, the indictment of Raul Castro in the U.S. leads many to suspect that the Trump Administration wants to Venezuela-ize Cuba.  Well, that does sound nice!  How easy would it be to pull off?  And is Venezuela really the best paradigm to follow, when in many ways it's still a failed, Marxist state?  We may get answers soon to these exciting questions, so stay tuned...  I am, of course, totally in favor of any strategy which leads to freedom for the Cuban people.

Stephen Colbert's long reign of terror in late-night TV is finally coming to an end!  His fellow lefties are outraged, as per usual, but there will still be plenty of tediously condescending and unrelentingly "progressive" voices on television, so my advice to them, and to him, is: relax!!!  Colbert will presumably ride off into the sunset with his millions of dollars and dream up new and different ways to insult conservatives and patriots.

Finally, I have to second the sentiments of Victor Davis Hanson in this fine article.  By no means is conflict between the U.S and China inevitable, and, as he points out, it is far from obvious that China is eclipsing America in the types of power that really matter.  Most important, I think, is China's lack of experience as a hegemonic power, and its relative timidity in wielding what power it has.

The Gall of Gallrein!

Friends, normally, challenging a sitting Congressman in his party's primary is a lost cause, but in the case of Thomas Massie a lot of Republicans have been critical of his waywardness and his tendency to make life difficult for poor Mike Johnson.  Personally, I think he was also partially responsible for the political currency of the "Epstein Files", an imaginary cache of pseudo-evidence that "proves" that Trump and every prominent Republican (but nary a Democrat!) is a pedophile and a murderer.  I say: good riddance, Massie!  And welcome to the House Republican Caucus, Mr. Gallrein.  (Granted, you still have to win the election in November, but that shouldn't be too taxing in the state of Kentucky.)

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cwy2vw8j0ddo

In other news, DJT has taken the bold step of endorsing Ken Paxton in the GOP Senate primary in Texas.  In all likelihood, this will seal John Cornyn's fate.  I have mixed feelings about this, since Cornyn isn't dreadful, and he would probably be a stronger candidate against Talarico, but I think Trump saw that Paxton was probably going to win regardless, so why not take credit for it?  The big takeaway in most contested primaries in the GOP this year has been: don't tangle with or aggravate DJT, because the Republican Party is his party, like it or not.

Jet Set

Friends, DJT has been visiting the PRC, and while no sea change in U.S.-China relations can be expected, he was respectfully received, and he offered courtly courtesy in exchange.  It seems that neither the U.S. nor China are in a mood to be belligerent, albeit for different reasons.  I personally have no problem with that.  President Xi is right: China's well-being, and America's, need not be contradictory in any way.  The gradual decoupling of our two nations, in terms of trade, is healthy, I feel.  It's not that we won't trade with China, but we shouldn't be utterly reliant on them for critical technology, and nor should we tolerate a massive and ever increasing trade deficit with Red China.  Meanwhile, our exploits against Iran may not be impressing CNN or the Europeans, but you can bet your bottom yuan that the Chinese have taken note of our vast military superiority and have drawn the appropriate conclusions.  One such conclusion: when Generalissimo Trump comes to town, it's probably best to roll out the red carpet and offer him praise and even some tokens of affection.  Buying 200 Boeing jets, for instance, is a nice gesture.  All in all, it would seem that Sino-American relations are, for the moment, in a fairly good place.

Starmer Stymied

Friends, as the old saying goes, it ain't easy bein' red...  (Or green, for that matter.)  Poor Keir Starmer, the Labourite Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, is hanging by a thread.  His party did abysmally in recent local elections, and his (very frightened) Labour colleagues are eager to ditch "Sir Keir" in favor of someone less despised.  Well, you can see their point, but I'm not so sure that Starmer is the problem.  The British seem fed up with establishment politics in general.  Indeed, the Conservatives, a.k.a. the Tories, are doing no better.  I wouldn't be surprised if Starmer was forcibly ejected from Downing Street, but unfortunately that doesn't mean that Labour's reign of error will be over, or that a new election will be forthcoming.  Much more likely is a fresh face to lead the same old bunch of lefty hacks.

https://www.bbc.com/news/live/c1m2e4nl1z1t

In other news, Iran still doesn't seem interested in making any serious concessions, which is an indication that either they're nuts or they think they have the upper hand vis-a-vis Trump.  It looks to me like we will have to let our blockade bite, and Iran's economy wither, for weeks if not months to prove our point, and/or we will need to find a viable way of getting large amounts of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, despite Iran's depredations.  If Iran comes to understand that it can't export any oil, and it can't hold the world economy hostage, then that ought to be checkmate.  Clearly, we aren't there yet, and I'm not sure when we will be.

To Flix Or Not To Flix

Friends, I'm not entirely sure what these "internets" are, but I hear they're riddled with lefties!  Case in point: Netflix, a woke digital entertainment emporium, which is still angling to capture even more insidious influence over the global consciousness.  My latest article is a call to arms against this behemoth:

Sic Semper Tyrannis

Friends, I definitely didn't see this coming!  The Supreme Court of the Commonwealth of Virginia has invalidated the referendum that approved the Dems' new gerrymandered map of Congressional districts.  This means it is highly likely that the old map will stand, meaning that the Dems won't be able to scoop up four extra seats.  Ergo, the big mess of gerrymandering that DJT set off this cycle is very likely to produce, on balance, a GOP gain of ten or more seats!  Wow!!!  Trump is looking like a genius...  Does this mean Republicans will keep control of the House after November?  Not necessarily, but it sure gives them a much better chance.

https://www.wtvr.com/news/virginia-politics/supreme-court-virginia-redistricting-ruling-may-8-2026

In other news, they've had some local elections in the U.K., and the big winner is the Reform Party of Nigel Farage.  The big losers are the establishment parties: Labour and the Conservatives.  Does this mean that Reform is a shoo-in to win the next general election?  No, but it means that a fundamental realignment of British politics is occurring, and there's a good chance that major changes will be coming to the U.K. in the next few years.  The voters can only be ignored for so long, after all...

No Country for Young Men

Friends, given the rapid changes in the job market, and the ravages of A.I. (real and perceived), it's a pretty tough time to be a youngster.  I mean, how can you possibly find a career path that is "safe" from obsolescence?  Darned if I know.  As this article suggests, there's a real danger that hopeless young people will turn to wokeness and/or socialism for succor.  Some are turning to God instead.  In any case, the battle for the souls of the next generation is well underway, and it behooves us to get in the fight.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/opinion/the-cursed-generation/ar-AA22qckl

Speaking of which, something very strange happened recently: a Washington D.C. jury indicted a young man for the crime (?) of attempting to kill our President!  Now, why would a D.C. jury indict any leftist or Democrat for anything???  This is unheard of!  Are we to believe that Republican lives matter -- even that of Donald J. Trump?  I find it hard to process, personally.  Perhaps the jury was confused and assumed that the intended targets of the bloodthirsty assassin were the (intrinsically noble) professional journalists at the White House Correspondents' Dinner?  That would make a little more sense...

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/clyp5rr0lm6o

Finally, the DHS, under the command of Secretary Kennedy, is now trying to persuade Americans to reconsider their love affair with anti-depressants.  Wow!  Of course, it's a rich tapestry, because quite a few Americans are probably only on mind-altering pharmaceuticals because of the anxiety and horror that Trump, or TDS, has engendered in them.  So the verdict is out on whether the Trump Administration is a net positive or negative for Zoloft sales.  Stay tuned!

Bosom Buddies

Friends, you won't want to miss this week's Newsmakers interview with America's sweetheart...ME!  Brian and I cover the amity and respect exchanged between DJT and King Charles, the evolving dynamics of our conflict with Iran, the bombshell SCOTUS decision re: redistricting, and more!

In other news, President Trump, in something of a snit, has decided to withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany.  Well, that's fine by me, but isn't it rather beside the point when we still, via NATO, effectively promise them free security for eternity?  I'd say much more is needed!

Game Changer

Friends, I know a lot of you are focused on the SAVE Act, which you presume might somehow "save" America.  That's pretty unlikely, since the chances of its passage are very low, and in any case no "election integrity" measures passed to date in any purple state have made it any less, or any more, purple.  Be that as it may, what might findamentally alter the landscape of American politics is today's Supreme Court decision, which will make it much harder to gerrymander on the basis of race.  Up to now, Supreme Court decisions have essentially mandated such gerrymandering in favor of racial minorities, who have had what amounts to a "right" to be represented by someone of their own ethnicity.  This is a tremendous boon to Democrats, needless to say, who want as many black and brown Congressmen as possible, and who view these minority Congresspeople as their most reliable servants -- almost as their personal property, as it were!  Well, allowing districts to be drawn based on political rather than racial considerations will mean, basically, far fewer minority-majority districts, especially in the South and in major urban areas.  The mid-cycle redistricting that we've seen in recent months could pale in comparison to what we'll see in the weeks and months to come, therefore!  Republicans could conceivably net dozens of seats from this change.  Now, as usual, it isn't quite clear how far SCOTUS is prepared to go in ridding us of racial gerrymandering, but this decision is a VERY hopeful sign!  I'd say the chances of a Republican-controlled House of Representatives after January 2027 just went way, way up!

Noble Spirit

Friends, a kindly old Englishman has wandered onto the White House lawn, and President Trump, as is his wont, is welcoming him with his usual charm and solicitude!  Trump is clearly a great admirer of the British, and that gives the "special relationship" some durability in these troubled times, when Labourite misrule might otherwise derail it altogether.  I hereby extend a hearty WaddyIsRight welcome to His Majesty!!!

A Gala Evening Cut Short

Friends, President Trump's attendance at the White House Correspondents' Dinner tonight was unexpectedly abbreviated, as a gunman tried to storm the event.  Luckily, the Secret Service made quick work of the madman, and all the dignitaries, including the President, are safe.  No doubt the mainstream media will ask pointedly, "Why does Donald Trump keep throwing himself in the path of all these unassuming and blameless bullets?  What is WRONG with this man???"  The better question, I'd say, is what's wrong with his would-be assassins, by which I mean all the nutjobs who want to kill him, which is a bigger subset of the population than you might think...

In other news, don't kid yourself: DEI isn't "history".  Far from it.  The spirit of DEI lives on, and in blue states it hasn't even changed its name.  Higher ed, and indeed any and all institutions infected with leftists, will never give up their anti-white, anti-male, anti-Christian, anti-capitalist, and anti-Western ideologies, as well as their reverse racism -- not unless every such institution was purged of their baleful presence, that is.  Don't hold your breath!

The Least Trusted Name in News

Friends, Warner Bros. shareholders have approved the acquisition of the entire company by Paramount, meaning, among other things, that Trump donors could soon be in charge of CNN!!!  Oh my.  Lefties are distraught, but I wouldn't expect a sea change overnight, or perhaps ever.  Paramount, despite its alleged Trumpiness, continues to pump out plenty of woke crap, and even finding non-Bolsheviks in the journalism profession will be hard.  Still, if the character of CNN were to change, although with hallowed liberal institutions like the Washington Post and CBS, the long-term cosmic effects could be most agreeable.  Personally, I'd settle for demoting Anderson Cooper to night janitor...

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cgj09ny0dq6o

Impasse

Friends, the conflict with Iran is dragging on, although President Trump extended the ceasefire indefinitely today.  The Strait of Hormuz is the real battleground.  For whatever reason, the mighty U.S. Navy doesn't seem willing or able to establish physical control over the vital waterway.  Small Iranian boats continue to harass commercial shipping and essentially deny the entire world use of the Strait.  Unacceptable, I say!!!  Meanwhile, the U.S. has imposed a blockade that has brought all Iranian maritime commerce to a complete standstill.  Who will blink first?  Well, it's hard to see how Iran could possibly think it could outlast us in such a struggle, but, if they watch CNN over there, they probably believe the U.S. is going to knuckle under any second.  It's the countries most dependent on Middle Eastern oil, like China and our "friends" in Europe, that must really be sweating bullets.  If this impasse continues much longer, their energy crisis will become acute.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3w3vqv0edpo

In other very important news, voters in Virginia have approved a plan to gerrymander the state's Congressional districts to give Democrats four extra seats.  A judge has taken issue with how the referendum was conducted, but don't count on Virginia courts to rescue the GOP from this disaster.  It will take federal intervention to do that.  Thus far, I think we can safely say that President Trump's plan to redistrict his way to victory in the midterms hasn't gone well.  Of course, there are other states that may save Republicans' bacon...like Florida?  On the other hand, if the blue wave is strong enough, none of this will matter anyway.

Lightning Fast!

Bad news, meatbags!  You're officially obsolete.  Not only is your intelligence, such as it is, easily outclassed by A.I., but now your speed and dexterity have been left in the dust by robots, as this story from China proves.  Robots, in short, can now run faster, for longer, than humans.  What can humans do better?  Not much.  We might still win a pie-eating contest, but that's about it.  My advice: eat more pie and abandon all hope!!!

Back on Track

Friends, whatever calamities may befall us, it would be nice to know that we have the biggest, most opulent ballroom in the universe attached to our president's residence, would it not?  I should say so!  Thanks to the U.S. Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia, we're a little bit closer to achieving that goal.  They've allowed construction on the ballroom to recommence, subbing leftist Judge Richard Leon.  Ha!  Take that!!!

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/clyx9xyy0j9o

In other news, the Strait of Hormuz is now closed again, after the Iranians (and Trump) had declared it open only yesterday.  Apparently the Iranians only eased up on their piracy in expectation that the U.S. blockade would be lifted.  Not so fast!  What now?  More haggling, I should think.  The Dems will be pleased, as Senator Fetterman noted only recently, because they love it when the bad guys show up Trump...  If the whole world burns in the process, that's just a minor inconvenience.  Of course, the whole world won't burn, because we're still the ones holding most of the cards.

The Art of the (Almost Finished!) Deal

Friends, President Trump is sounding extremely optimistic that the Iranians are about to give us everything we want out of a deal: an open Strait of Hormuz, all the "nuclear dust" they can muster, a commitment not to enrich any more uranium, and more!  Some voices in Iran are saying "hold your horses, Mister!"  Well, they're saying it in a less idiomatic way, and in Farsi, but you get the idea.  We could be on the cusp on ending this conflict and lastingly containing the Islamic Republic of Iran...or we could be on the cusp of Iran backpedaling, and the conflict reigniting.  Nothing would surprise me, at this stage!

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2026/04/17/trump-iran-deal-expected-in-the-next-day-or-two-might-travel-to-islamabad-for-final-talks/

In other news, President Trump is talking about a potential game changer in 2026: the retirement of one or more of the conservative justices on the Supreme Court.  This could dramatically raise the stakes for the midterm elections, since a Republican Senate would be essential to ensuring that Trump could replace Alito and/or Thomas with a likeminded right-winger.  In turn, making the high court a central issue in the midterms could boost Republican turnout, which otherwise isn't looking all that robust, if special elections are any indication.  It's all food for thought!

Finally, I've mentioned it before, but there is something of a school choice revolution going in America, and ground zero is the Sunshine State.  Florida is making it possible for parents to design a curriculum around their kids' needs, and to send their kids anywhere they please to learn, or indeed nowhere, since homeschooling is very much in the picture.  This flexibility is a model for how a publicly-supported K-12 education system ought to operate.  Red states, take note!!!

Brainstorm

Friends, President Trump is very, very smart!  He tells us so on a regular basis.  Whether the men advising him are similarly bright is an open question.  It took the President's national security team a surprisingly long time to figure out that, if Iran could close the Strait of Hormuz, with its navy at the bottom of the sea, then we, with the world's biggest navy by far, could do so too!  And no country is more dependent on maritime trade passing through the Strait than...Iran!!!  That's what we call "checkmate" in strategic terms.  In other words, we can obliterate the Iranian economy any time we like.  Maybe that time should have been back when this conflict began.  Be that as it may, we're blockading Iran now, and I'm optimistic that this will force the Islamists to talk turkey, at long last.  I mean, for the U.S. of A., mounting a blockade is a piece of cake.  We can do this stuff all day long for as many days as it takes.  The best part is that, not only have we exposed Iran as a paper tiger, but we've done the same for every country in the world, including our erstwhile allies in Europe.  Simply put, the world runs on maritime trade, and WE RULE THE WAVES!!!  Get it, Trump haters???

In other news, babies are smelly and obnoxious.  This helps to explain why so few people are having them these days, but, as I've been saying for years, there's a lot more to it.  People invest their time and energy in whatever they believe truly matters, and our messed up egotistical culture, such as it is, does not value parenthood.  Until we fix that problem, the decline and fall of human fertility will be the story of the century, the millenium, and quite possibly the punchline in the epitaph of homo sapiens, when the time comes.

Friends, President Trump has been prevailed upon to delete his reposting of this image of himself as, some say, a "Jesus-like figure".  Is all the outrage justified?  I leave it to you to decide.  The bigger question is: does DJT have magical healing powers, which may or may not be angelic or demonic?  The verdict is out...

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2026/04/13/trump-denies-deleted-truth-post-showed-him-as-jesus-blames-fake-news/

In other news, Eric Swalwell, who just days ago was a darling of the Left and perhaps the odds-on favorite to be the next Governor of California, is today a private citizen, after he resigned his seat in Congress.  And, as he points out, all that was accomplished by mere accusations, and certainly not with actual criminal charges, let alone convictions.  Welcome to the Democratic Party, Eric!

In case you haven't heard, conservative hero Viktor Orban has been defeated in his reelection bid in Hungary.  He served as the country's Prime Minister for 16 years, and he received fulsome praise and meaningful support from DJT and Vice-President Vance.  Well, his ouster is a pity, ideologically speaking, but 16 years is a good run, and even a spotless right-wing pedigree doesn't mean that Orban was a perfect leader.  Clearly, his party succumbed to complacency and corruption, to a degree.  Farewell, Viktor!  Welcome to the party, Peter (Magyar)!

Lastly, our blockade against the maritime commerce of Iran is now in effect, and presumably the Iranian economy, which was already teetering, will crater in short order.  Will the mullahs care?  There's no guarantee of that, but their customers surely will, notably China and India.  The other big question, while we close the Strait to Iran, is whether we will be successful in opening it for everyone else.  If we do succeed in that, it would appear that Iran has no more cards to play, except suicidal obstinacy, which is always an option!

No Deal!

Friends, DJT has spoken!  The U.S. will close the Strait of Hormuz until such time as it can be opened free of Iran's malign influence, i.e. toll-free.  Bravo!  This is exactly what should happen.  The Strait right now is a psychological and financial lifeline for the Iranian leadership.  That must end.  Perhaps if it does the mullahs will draw the appropriate conclusions and accede to our demands?  Hey, miracles happen...

In other news, California Congressman and leftist darling Eric Swalwell is reeling from multiple allegations of sexual assault, which just happen to coincide with his run for Governor of the Golden State.  Gee, it seems like we might have seen this playbook before?  Establishment Democrats seem happy to go along with these smears, in any case.  It sure is fascinating how the political calculus of the Left's moral outrage works, i.e. who gets shielded from all charges, and who is automatically presumed guilty of anything and everything.  These people live in a fact-free ethical ecosystem that will always baffle the likes of you and me.

Welcome Home!

Friends, NASA's Artemis II mission is now over, and it was a complete success, which is welcome news for the space agency and the nation!  Oh, and homo sapiens in general.  President Trump has framed this as a triumph for the good ole USA, which naturally it is, but, more importantly, it's going to propel all of humanity back to the Moon, and onward to the whole galaxy, after an unforgivably long pause that's lasted my entire lifetime.  Better late than never, I say!

https://www.breitbart.com/news/artemis-ii-crew-caps-historic-lunar-flyby-with-call-from-trump/

In other news, Vice-President Vance will be leading the U.S. negotiating team in Islamabad, which will try to reach an understanding with the Islamist regime in Iran.  It ain't gonna be easy!  Many points of disagreement still exist.  Whatever peace we cobble together, friends, it will be a very poor substitute for regime change, which is still my long-term goal for the Persian people.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cx2wyn8wdz0o

Finally, who cares about world peace, or the lack thereof, when our nation's capital grows more opulent and glamorous by the day?  Not only will we soon have a fancy new ballroom next to the White House, but plans are afoot to add a triumphal arch that will make Paris's Arc de Triomphe look like a sad pile of rocks!

Hanging By a Thread

Friends, DJT is not well pleased with the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran still claims to be in control, where they seem to be demanding tribute from anyone who wants to engage in lawful commerce, and where, in fact, almost no ships are passing, because of ongoing fear of Iranian aggression.  Trump says this situation is unacceptable, and he's right, so....what shall be done?  I bet our servicemen in the theater have some ideas!

https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116377109535639790

The Iranian leadership seems fairly oblivious to the immense damage that has already been done not only to the country's armed forces but also to the leadership class itself.  Do they really want to come back for more???  It's looking like they may believe their own propaganda that Trump is a weakling and the U.S. has been put in its place.  We may have to disabuse them of such notions!

Burying the Hatchet?

Friends, we now have a ceasefire of sorts in place with the Islamic Republic of Iran.  Basically, the U.S. has agreed to stop bombing Iran for 14 days, and Iran has promised to reopen the Strait of Hormuz (apparently under their supervision and subject to the payment of tribute to them).  Meanwhile, Israel has agreed to nothing and will carry on bombing Iran all it likes.  It doesn't sound like much of a basis for "peace" to me, but it is a basis for continued negotiations, about which DJT is surprisingly optimistic.  We shall see.  I guess Persian "civilization" gets a two-week reprieve, so good for them!

In other news, Marjorie Taylor Greene's successor will be...a Republican, and a much less crazy one than her (which admittedly is a low bar)!  This is good news.  We certainly don't need to be losing deep red districts to the dastardly Dems.

A Bridge Too Far?

Friends, we're now less than 24 hours from President Trump's deadline for Iran to accept a deal to end the war -- a deal that must include the opening of the Strait of Hormuz to traffic from all nations.  If Iran demurs, Trump has pledged to destroy all the country's bridges and power plants, rendering its military even more impotent and life for civilians close to unbearable.  Will Iran blink?  Will Trump back down?  Who can say...

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cqj8ep9w1pno

There's an important caveat, however: the Strait of Hormuz isn't really "closed", at least not as much as many people assume.  Quite a few ships are transiting the Strait, and quite a few countries have been promised safe passage by the Iranians.  Needless to say, the U.S. and Israel aren't targeting anyone's commercial vessels.  Even Iran is still exporting oil!  This renders a lot of the handwringing over the global oil market somewhat phony, mind you.  Prices are high, but they haven't skyrocketed, in part because the supply shortage isn't nearly as severe as it could be -- and perhaps will be, if Iran's civilian infrastucture is obliterated, and the mullahs take the gloves off and try to close the Strait completely.  If I had to bet, I'd wager that the Strait will be more open a month from now than it is today, but I could be wrong.  Stay tuned.

Happy Easter, One and All!

Friends, here's hoping the "good news" of Easter (and every day, come to think of it) has reached your receptive ears, which may or may not be bunny ears -- I don't judge!

In other news, one U.S. serviceman got the best Easter present of all: he was rescued in the wilds of Iran by his brave comrades and thus won't be falling into the clutches of fanatical Islamists.  Hooray!

H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks!!

Friends, the United States and Iran are both threatening to unleash "hell" on one another, which, in the case of Iran, seems speculative at best, since they can't even deliver an explosive payload anywhere they aim at.  Missile fragments, maybe.  Be that as it may, the world thinks Iran is "winning", because the world hates Donald Trump so much that it's rooting for the theocratic loons instead -- and of course the global media tells them that, indeed, the U.S. is sinking ever deeper into a "quagmire".  Well, maybe at some point these talking heads, and the mullahs, will wake up and smell the coffee.  Alas, it probably won't be today.

Bondi Out, Zeldin In?

Friends, today President Trump fired Pam Bondi, the U.S. Attorney General.  Apparently he is strongly considering EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, a fellow New Yorker, as her replacement.  First, allow me to state the obvious: if Pam Bondi was the wrong person to lead the DOJ, then ultimately her selection reflects badly on the man who chose her...whomever that may be.  I really couldn't say.  Second, from my perspective, the second term of DJT is looking a little more like his first term each and every day, and that isn't a compliment.  Turnover is never a good thing.  It shows indecisiveness and its begets chaos.  Third, a lot of us New Yorkers think highly of Lee Zeldin, who came close to winning the governorship here, and it's hard to imagine, if we're to be honest, that he could do any worse than Pam Bondi has in holding the Dems' and leftists' feet to the fire, legally speaking.  Literally no one on the Left has been convicted of anything under Pam Bondi, which is, well, kind of an opportunity area for her successor.  So, while I am troubled by these developments, I'm also hopeful that ultimately the DOJ will perform better in the months and years ahead.  To be clear, the goal is not to weaponize the justice system to persecute our opponents.  The goal is to remind the Democrats that they too are subject to the law, which they could be forgiven for forgetting, since all of them have been treated like they have blanket immunity for any and all crimes under red and blue presidents alike.  It's high time, in short, that our criminal justice system started to work for the American people, and not just for the left-leaning establishment.  Those are my two cents.

In Scoring Position

Friends, President Trump tonight addressed the nation and attempted to justify and explain his campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran.  He did a passable job of it, I must say, but I do question why he's doing it now instead of at the outset of the conflict.  As I've said on numerous occasions, President Trump underutilizes the primetime address, which is a great way to end-run the mainstream media and talk directly to the American people.  Be that as it may, better a late defense of his administration's approach on Iran than none at all.  I naturally agree with almost everything he said.  The problem is that no one, except his most ardent supporters, will be listening.  Oh well.  The fact remains that, as per Trump's remarks, the attacks on Iran will continue until he feels that our objectives have been met -- and, once the campaign wraps up, America's political dynamics, as well as the stock market and oil prices, will be back to square one in short order.  In the meantime, the threat posed by Iran will have been massively reduced, and we will all benefit, for decades to come, from that achievement.  Thank heavens for that!

https://www.breitbart.com/middle-east/2026/04/01/watch-live-donald-trump-delivers-primetime-address-on-iran/

In other news, Trump is saying that the reluctance of our NATO allies to assist in reopening the Strait of Hormuz is causing him to doubt the wisdom of our membership in NATO.  I should hope so!!!  The Western Alliance, if we're to be honest, has been a one-way street since its inception, and our European "partners" are determined to keep it that way.  It's high time, in my humble opinion, that we went our separate ways and challenged the Europeans to provide for their own defense...and to go and secure their own oil, if it comes to that.  Unfortunately, I very much doubt that President Trump will have the courage of his convictions when it comes to NATO, given the establishment's unanimous devotion to it, but I would love to be proven wrong.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c79je4vldq5o

In yet other news, NASA's Artemis II mission, which involves the first manned flight to the Moon since 1972, is currently underway after a picture-perfect launch this evening.  Godspeed!  This is yet another powerful demonstration of America's world-beating technology and gumption, and I couldn't be more pleased and proud!

https://www.bbc.com/news/videos/cwydnrmggnno

Finally, in a related development, Elon Musk's SpaceX, which has established its dominance in the space launch industry, is about to go public, which hopefully will mean even more exciting progress in space exploration and exploitation, and will almost certainly spell even greater wealth for Musk himself.  Assuming he contributes a healthy share of it to Republican candidates in 2026 and beyond, I say: well done, Elon!!!  Ad astra per aspera.

My Wish Has Been Granted!

Friends, just when you were sure you were living in "the best of times", they go and get even better!  For one thing, I asked for "more kings", and it turns out that Britain's King Charles III is about to arrive for a state visit.  Marvelous!  Will he shower DJT with titles, awards, and fawning praise?  I can only assume he will.  Might DJT crown himself emperor to mark the occasion and one-up his regal visitor?  Could be!  Let's cling to hope, shall we?

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3w3dpgjzj8o

But there's more!!!  Eric Trump has unveiled plans for the Trump Presidential Library in Miami, which looks less like a library and more like an opulent futuristic skyscraper.  I know I would enjoy visiting it someday.  Of course, if the Dems have their way, after he leaves office Trump will be locked away in a Supermax prison, but that's only if they get their grubby mits on the White House again, and I trust my fellow Americans won't let that happen.  Well, I hope they won't!

More Kings, Please!

Friends, in the wake of the latest "No Kings" protests, only one conclusion is possible: a Trumpian monarchy would be infinitely preferable to any "democracy" that empowered the sort of people who attend No Kings rallies.  I jest (or do I?), but they were a sorry bunch.  Good natured, for the most part, but entirely captive to a series of delusions (of the sort spoon-fed to elderly white liberals on certain "news" networks that need not be named).  Ah well.  That's the American way: we're free to trumpet our ignorance to our hearts' content!  Luckily, these protests will have precisely zero impact on the governance of the country, although the midterms are a different story, and the sheer energy the Left is manifesting could be consequential there.

https://nypost.com/2026/03/28/us-news/no-kings-protests-turn-violent-as-unruly-mob-waving-palestinian-flags-hurl-cement-blocks-at-dhs-agents/

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/josephchalfant/2026/03/28/the-no-kings-protests-were-even-more-insane-than-you-wouldve-thought-n2673597

In other news, President Trump is talking openly about limited special operations missions inside Iran, and about seizing control of Kharg Island, which would effectively give the U.S. control over Iran's oil exports.  Of course, arguably U.S. naval dominance already gives us control over, well, everyone's oil exports, to the extent that we choose to exercise said control.  The sooner the Iranians figure this out, the better!  Now, is all this talk of boots on the ground mere gamemanship that is designed to get the Iranians to concede more in negotiations?  Maybe.  Maybe not.  Quite possibly even Trump doesn't know the answer, as yet.

Lèse-Majesté

Friends, if the legions of protestors tomorrow are to be believed (a big "if"), then our country has already achieved the pinacle of perfection: we've made the great and glorious Donald J. Trump our King-Emperor, and thus we've left democracy in our regal dust.  Oh, if only it were so!  The powers of President Trump seem all too limited, from what I can tell.  He doesn't even command respect, let alone obedience.  Be that as it may, I wish the lefties a pleasant day of kvetching, which is surely their favorite pastime.

Meanwhile, President Trump is trying to solve problems created by Democrats, as per usual.  He's ordered that TSA agents should be paid, despite the partial government shutdown.  Can he do that?  Probably not, since liberal judges won't let him do anything, but I applaud him for making the effort!

Gloomy Gus

Friends, don't get me wrong: DJT is always a ray of sunshine, but I, on the other hand, sometimes get despondent about our country's future, especially when I consider the political resilience of the Democrats, who ought to have been consigned to the dustbin of history a long, long time ago.  Well, they haven't been.  In fact, they're prospering, thanks to the, uhh, resilence of TDS!  And that's the subject of my latest article.

Democrats Think They're Winning – and, Sadly, They're Right!

There's no question that the ongoing U.S./Israeli campaign against Iran has opened some fissures in the conservative/MAGA movement, and that in itself is something to concern those who wish President Trump well, but a more troubling and possibly long-lasting realignment is happening concurrently: leftists and Democrats are reviving, despite the fact that we left them for dead in the wake of the 2024 election. Their squabbles are long forgotten, as the Trump haters find common purpose in – what else? – hating Trump.

Witness, first of all, the steady drumbeat of anti-Trump coverage in the mainstream media and on social media, exemplified in uniquely horrifying fashion by the tendency of the talking heads to root openly for Iran in the present conflict, and to portray the noble efforts of President Trump and the U.S. military to bring down the mullahs as aggression, inhumanity, and pure stupidity. Whether this incessant calumny has any relationship to the facts or not, it is having a cumulative effect: Trump's approval ratings are drifting down, and the Democrats' advantage in generic ballot polls is gradually increasing. A point here and a point there may not seem like much, and the President's base remains broadly enthusiastic, but no one can question that Trump and Republicans are in a steadily weakening political position. The Left's lies, including its damned lies, are having an effect.

Second, it's getting increasingly hard to ignore the trend in special elections, which is almost uniformly favorable to Democrats, and not in a subtle way. Democrats routinely outperform the results they obtained in 2024 in these special elections by 15 or 20 points. That's a lot! Republicans even lost in Trump's “backyard”, as the Dems love to point out, in a race for a Florida House seat in an area that includes Mar-a-Lago. Ouch! Meanwhile, Republican-held state legislative seats in Texas, Iowa, Mississippi, Georgia, New Hampshire, and elsewhere have turned blue, and emphatically so. The Democrats think the momentum is on their side, and there's very little evidence in the results of these special elections to contradict them.

Lastly, money makes the world go 'round, and politics even more so. The Democrats and leftists aren't just taking to the streets in their millions, shaking their fists at “King Trump” – they're also putting their money where their big, obnoxious mouths are. Contributions are pouring into special election campaigns and into the coffers of liberal candidates running in the midterms. The Democrats have become, lest anyone forget, the party of the well-heeled, and they are, as a result, tapping into an almost inexhaustible reservoir of financial support. They have massively outspent us in most recent election cycles, and they may well do so again in 2026, especially when dark money is factored in.

It is worth remembering that President Trump and Republicans face these severe headwinds despite the fact that the U.S. economy is basically sound, inflation low, and the markets buoyant. What would happen if, say, the market tanked, or unemployment rose, or inflation heated up? How hard would it be to revive GOP fortunes then? An economic slowdown, moreover, is looking increasingly possible, according to economists.

The solutions to these challenges are by no means apparent, but one thing is for sure: the Democrats and leftists cannot be written off as perennial losers, and they cannot be depended on to sink their own ship. On the contrary, we should recognize that President Trump's victory in 2024 came despite the inherent and broad-based strength of the Democratic Party and the Left, with all their ingrained advantages and prodigious institutional and popular support. To hold on to the House of Representatives in November (not to mention the Senate, which is looking increasingly shaky), it will take wise decisions from the President and his top lieutenants, as well as a maximum effort from Republicans, conservatives, and the MAGA movement. Even then, we may fall short.

That's just the sad, unvarnished truth.

In other news, Senate Republicans are considering the use of another reconciliation bill to get the DHS funded, possibly pass a version of the SAVE Act, and otherwise advance the GOP agenda.  I think this is an excellent idea, as getting the dastardly Dems to support anything common sensical, or even vaguely sensical, is a lost cause.  Reconciliation bills only require a simple majority.  I say: get on with it!

Finally, in a first for any U.S. president, Donald Trump's signature will soon be appearing on our paper money!  Wow.  Perhaps Trump believes this will cause all Americans to think of him with reverence and gratitude every time they spend money.  Fat chance of that!  Still, I have no problem with Trump's signature, likeness, or shoe size appearing on U.S. dollars, and we might also consider appending a short message mocking the Democrats on every bill too.  Why the heck not???
