Dems on the Run

Friends, you won't want to miss this week's Newsmaker Show with me and Brian O'Neil.  We break down the results of the key 2021 elections, including the GOP's incredible success in running the table in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  We also discuss the implications for 2022, and the role that Trump -- and the specter of Trump -- are likely to play going forward.  Brian and I also talk about the state of New York politics in the shadow of the 2021 returns.  It now looks like Kathy Hochul will face a stiff challenge from Letitia James, Bill DeBlasio, and...many more?  That gives Republicans a narrow opening to capture the Governorship of the Empire State in 2022.

When Brian and I turn to history, we hash over the failure of the Hungarian Uprising in 1956 and how it exposed Soviet domination in Eastern Europe as a nakedly coercive enterprise, the 2016 Paris Agreement on climate change and how its legacy of empty posturing lives on in Glasgow, the curious fact that leftist race-baiting only increased in the wake of the election of Barack Obama as our first black president, and the significance of the Iran hostage crisis in U.S. foreign relations.

Wow!  It's topical, it's scintillating, it's informative -- it's Waddy!

In other news, revel in the fact that New Yorkers -- as blue as blue can be -- rejected three ballot proposals that were designed to make voting/cheating easier.  Wow!  I guess Americans' hunger for "voting rights" isn't what the Democrats thought!

  2. Dr.Waddy from Jack: Ah dunno, its hard to imagine the Dems not fiddling with the election. They knew how important it was;I mean the entire elite crowr ampaigned for a Clinton factotum. Maybe the voters are so disgusted with the Dems that their monkey business didn't make any difference.

  3. Jack, they did "monkey" with the election insofar as they made voting by mail as easy as drawing breath, and presumably they enabled ballot harvesting and all the rest of their dirty tricks. As you say, though, such shenanigans will only get you so far...

  4. Dr. Waddy from Jack: There were some hopeful results from the issues decided in NY on the ballot but there was one potentially EXTREMELY (so to speak) noisome development; the perhaps tentative, enthusiastic approval of a State Constitutional Amendment guaranteeing to each citizen a "clean (read sqeaky clean, pristine, unimpeachably pure) environment". If finally enacted this would motivate and enable limitless challenge to ANY practice deemed contrary in ANY way, especially by ambitious upcoming NYC leftists, to this breathless promise! "How dare you atavistic rural hicks who benefit from a close abundance of forest, continue your barbaric practice of wood heating!? Not only do you violence to our right to enjoy live trees on demand but you inject into our sacred environment redolent smoke which offends (!!!) our delicate olefactory and psychological sensitivities, no matter the distance you may reside from our urban havens. Oh and none of those natural gas heating devices either; they are equally troubling due to their insolent disregard for firmly, irrefutably established correct environmental dictates ( oh, sorry, doctrines rather)" . A tsunami of emotionally driven lawsuits, promising their originators virtually certain profit from settlement, would ensue ,no matter how tenuous the charges. I mean, how clean is clean in fantastic NYC thinking? It would be summary condemnation upon accusation and criminal liability would be close at hand."Why, what's wrong with you? So you don't want a clean environment? Well ,see ya in court and good luck to you (snicker snicker). You breathed on me and that is unacceptable". Seemed far fetched? Check out the unexpected consequences of Federal measures meant to right wrongs (no matter who is newly wronged in the processes) and then imagine similar environmental pronunciamentos at the command of the totalitarians who yet dominate and dictate to and pollute beleagured "NY". I put it in quotes to emphasize that the formal entity NY is somethng much estranged from millions of its inhabitants.

  5. Dr.Waddy From Jack: A view from a 4th grader in 1956,on the Hungarian revolution: " Well we thought that Russian, Polish, Hungarian, Czech , meant Russian. " But we were aware of the Soviet threat. We regularly experienced air raid drills. Our teacher introduced us to the plight of Hungary and bade us bring to school contributions for Hungarian refugees. She also taught us how a Molotov Cocktail was constructed and used against Soviet tanks!"A very graphic description of that revolt against Great Russian inhumanity and its murderous aftermath is to be had in James Michener's Bridge at Andau. Krushchev did courageously demonstrate in his "secret" 1956 speech denouncing at least some of Stalin's sociopathic crimes, some humanity. But recall, also, his murderous Stalin commanded, 1930's deadly violence against dissenters in the Stalin purposefully starved Ukraine and his, eh, forceful Stalin delegated takeover of the Stalingrad battle. One Soviet aparatchik noted at the time of K's 1956 speech, " why Stalin would not have left of him even a wet spot". No matter what his possible tender human personal reforms, K had also in 1956 to deal with many other WWII vets in command, who shared with him the searing memory of the "Great Patriotic War" and of yes, perhaps forced, Hungarian alliance with the Nazis even unto Stalingrad. Being a sociopathic monster, Stalin had no hesitation in gathering all of Eastern Europe into a blanket to shield him from any future threat to his voluptuary fulfillment. K could not perhaps, refrain from use of Soviet force. He would have been liquidated. And lets not forget, he firmly believed in the truth of Marxism!

  6. Jack, you're right to worry about the real world consequences of our new state constitutional amendment guaranteeing us all "clean air and water". That's a hopelessly vague standard, as you point out, and it will be interpreted by left-wing, activist judges. Nothing good can come of it.

That's fascinating that your teacher openly denounced communism and communist oppression in Eastern Europe. To put it mildly, the political/ideological instincts of the average schoolteacher have undergone a transformation since then!

I agree that Khrushchev probably had little choice but to invade Hungary, and the Hungarians were naive if they thought they could wriggle out from under Soviet hegemony. They did the world a service, though, insofar as they demonstrated the sordid nature of that hegemony.

  7. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Miss Chester, our fourth grade teacher, for both my mother and myself: she was much feared until you got into her class and realized how wonderful she was. If she were to come back and ask me how our education system had degenerated as it has I would be ashamed to tell her that it was boomers,of the very generation she had taught so well (without "benefit" of enlightened modern "education" and administration of educators)
who later became the reason for it. By her common sense teaching she could demonstrate more of benefit to teachers than so very much of the politically correct dreck with which they are indoctrinated and commanded now. Miss Chester inspired respect, cooperation and affection because she would NOT accept negative behavior and she had no touchy feelies then condemning her as " insensitive".

  8. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Its worth noting too that in the mid fifties that procommunism was almost universally considered bizarre in the extreme, as it deserved then (its proponents were like subterranean rodents with holes in isolated settings)and does now, especially now that it, incredibly, bids to take over!

  9. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Oh equally important too: Miss Chester gave measured and appropriate praise when it wasEARNED!

  10. Dr.Waddy from Jack : One more thought on Miss Chester, who had no misgivings about denouncing Marxists in power, she had also taught the Greatest Generation and it would have astounded her to see how many of their children betrayed them and execrated the world she knew!

  11. Jack, sounds as if "Miss Chester" was the stuff that civilization is made of -- strong women who demand the best and the highest from those around them. Miss Chester understood, as modern teachers do not, that coddling children is not "compassion" -- it is a kinder, gentler form of child abuse.
