Friends, from the 1870s to the 1960s, blacks in our Southern states felt the brunt of systematic segregationist policies collectively called "Jim Crow". It was more than a mere policy, frankly. It was, in effect, a way of life, and one over which much of the population (including poor whites) had no say. Now, as you know, Democrats and progressives are constantly proclaiming that efforts to reform voting procedures in the Southern states (or in any red state) constitute the re-imposition of Jim Crow. It's a crock, in simple terms, and a monstrous insult to Republicans, to democracy, and to America in general. This article does a spectacular job of deconstructing Dem/leftist attacks on voter integrity measures like the one that recently passed in Georgia. It's longish, but well worth your time.

In other news, it's one thing to support "gay rights", but it's quite another to elevate the celebration of homosexuality to equal status with a traditional virtue/principle like patriotism. To put it another way, the gay pride flag has NO PLACE flying in front of any public building, and certainly not on the same flagpole as Old Glory. The Biden administration recently flew the transgender flag (who knew there was such a thing?) at the White House, and now U.S. embassies throughout the world will be flying the rainbow flag ostentatiously, to demonstrate how woke we are as a nation. Call me old fashioned, but I say the Stars and Stripes ought to be enough on their own. Who's with me? Or maybe, next time we Republicans win a presidential election, we should insist that Trump flags fly proudly in front of every public building... Sure. Why not.

Dr.Waddy from Jack: That article was very well argued and documented. Its probably of no moment to the left, even though their Washington Post mouthpiece was as insolent as to express some heretical doubt as to doctrinal assumptions. Some observations: In 1968,being very absent from the U.S. in the Tonkin Gulf, I voted absentee, for "Hubert Horatio Wind",so named by Goldwater, who observed Hubert was capable of " gusts up to 350(?) words per minute - you get the idea . Well at least he didn't win. The return envelope required that I sign it -but not theballot itself -confirming that it was sent by he who applied(with requisite identification processes thereby satisfied). This seemed to me a reasonable requirement;I saw no fell intent in it and I was thrilled to exercise my franchise.
ReplyDeleteDr.Waddy from Jack: To the left, the purposes of popular elections are to confirm their unassailably just nominees and any adverse result is by definition unjust. This reaction is on the left's part reflexive. It follows for it that any process yielding the victory they achieved in Georgia, the everlasting immpenetrable swamp of darkness, must not be questioned! Any reform of it, its reasoning condemned upon very expression, is heresy and deservedly punished as such.
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy from Jack: The display of that partisan flag expresses this message:"You Americans who may dissent, you who in any way doubt, are of no moral moment to us. You are as insects to us. " I say to the left despite your very tenuous temporary electoral and procedural advantage, you leftists are blithe to misrepresent to the world a dishonest expression of U.S.national support a nd a complete absence of any" discreditable" misgivings.
ReplyDeleteJack, I've voted absentee too, and the only "security measure" worth mentioning was signature verification. That's true when I, as a New Yorker, vote in person too. No ID requirement here, as you know. Now, why they don't just use the chip in our brains I'll never understand...
ReplyDeleteQuite right, Jack: to fly the rainbow flag alongside Old Glory conveys the impression that America and gayness are one-in-the-same, or at least that America stands for gay rights, which would be, at best, misleading. Why can't America just stand for...America? Isn't that enough?
Dr. Waddy from Jack: I was a little concerned that it was possible that my vote could be discerned but I also realized that the provision to me of a means to vote from a remote location also required of me some confirmation that I was the individual who had originally applied (yeah, we overseas military had to apply and prove our citizenship. Why imagine that. Good thing Al Gore wasn't running! We know now about "jury nullification" but the left now endorses voter nullification, by various disingenuous devices, including knowingly dishonest condemnation of post 2020 election reform. Seems like "absentee ballots" are now handed out gratis. But of course illegals would, on principle, decline to use them, yes?
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy from Jack: When Barack Obama had prominent Federal buildings bathed in the light of colors CELEBRATING causes which are the objects of sincere concern to millions of Americans he said in effect, building upon his assertion that "elections have consequences": " Not only have you who doubt been bested in a political process but we are eager to rub it in your face and DECLARE our utter contempt for any misgivings you have and to misrepresent them as fanatic and extreme. So what!! We know you represent a significant portion of the American population, but get this straight, you don't count!" Foggy headed knee jerk 1970 lefty Biden probably thinks his presumptuous, undemocratic display of this partisan flag is a good thing, bless his uncomprehending(of how he is cynically used) heart. The American left constantly blats "diversity" without proving any inherent worth in the concept, which is of course one of their unassailable, self evident proprietary exhortations.
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy from Jack: The next time we win, lets fly an NRA flag! Oh c'mon, you left wingers can't decline can you?
ReplyDeleteJack, the very idea that an illegal immigrant would break the law is absurd!
ReplyDeleteSo you had to supply proof of citizenship back in '68 to vote? Interesting. I believe it's now prohibited to require that.
Jack, you're right: displaying something like the rainbow flag on public buildings smacks of triumphalism. We could fly the "Don't Tread on Me" flag to retaliate? Or, why not go whole-hog and fly the Stars and Bars? Now THAT would get their goat!!!
