The Sorrow and the Pity

Friends, it might just be time.  Time for what, you ask?  Time to deal with the elephant in the room: the fact that Joe Biden is about to become our President.

Trumpian obstinacy notwithstanding, it's looking more and more as though our Fearless Leader has no trick up his sleeve that could reverse the putative outcome of the 2020 presidential election.  Was he cheated?  Sure.  Was the deck stacked from the beginning?  You bet.  Has evidence of the Democrats' chicanery steadily mounted?  No doubt.  Did Donald Trump win the critical states, assuming only valid votes were counted?  Absolutely.

None of this matters, however, because the courts, Congress, and the state legislatures have utterly failed to do their duty and uphold the will of the people.  Moreover, Trump himself, who always, from 2015 to today, had only one card to play -- the ecstatic support of tens of millions of patriots -- failed to play that card when it still would have mattered.

Trump could have announced that he would NEVER accept the results of a phony election.  He could have declared he would refuse to leave office under such a cloud.  He could have called upon his supporters to demonstrate in their tens of thousands outside every federal courthouse and every state legislative chamber where the critical decisions would be made about revising, or potentially revising, the results of the election.

But those would be the actions of a fascist, you say?  Maybe...or arguably they would have been the actions of a man who believed exactly what he said: that he was the rightful winner of the 2020 election, and that the acceptance of any other outcome would drive a stake through the heart of American democracy.

Be that as it may, President Trump didn't take any of the decisive actions that I've outlined.  Instead, he retreated to the White House, licked his wounds, berated his enemies, and waited for SCOTUS, or Congress, or the state legislatures, to ride to his rescue.  Well, they didn't, and they were never likely to do so.  Trump's only hope was to show backbone, and to rouse his legions of supporters to DEMAND an acknowledgement of his reelection.  In the end, therefore, the Republican Party, the courts, Congress, the state legislatures, the media, and plenty of other institutions failed Trump and the American people...but one might say, with equal accuracy, that Trump failed himself, and us.  He equivocated, and so he lost.

Having said all that, if Trump DOES have a master plan that has yet to unfold, well, I congratulate him on his deviousness, and I look forward to FOUR MORE YEARS!  That seems like an increasingly faint hope, however, so it's time to pick up the pieces and move on.

Our first instinct must, of course, to be to look on the bright side.  Yes, the GOP did far better in this election, at all levels, than most pollsters and pundits predicted.  Yes, our man, despite the recession, the pandemic, and an unprecedented wave of scurrilous attacks, came within a hair's breadth of reelection, despite Dem cheating!  That's something to be proud of.

So...we might say to ourselves: buck up, patriots!  We'll get 'em next time.  2022 and 2024 are a whole different ballgame.

As for me, I'd say 2024 might as well be a thousand years from now, because four years is an eternity in politics.  I have no idea who will run in 2024, or what the political dynamics will be like. 2022 is almost as mysterious.

What worries me, though, is this: all things being equal, OF COURSE Republicans can make a comeback and win in 2022 and 2024...but who's to say all things ARE equal?  Democrats gamed the system as never before in 2020, and they got away with it.  They ignored the law, they threw the canons of journalism in the gutter, and they weaponized a disease to undo a President -- and for their iniquity the American people rewarded them with power.  That's a poor reflection on the voters, needless to say, but that's just the beginning.

Think of it this way: The American people can be won over.  In that sense, we would be justified in being hopeful, no?  But winning back the confidence of the American people only matters if our elections truly are "free and fair".  If the outcome of those elections isn't based on the will of the people, but is instead based on corruption, propaganda, and outright fraud, then, well, how are the forces of light ever to prevail again?  After all, if lying and cheating worked once, we can only assume that the Dems will double down on both...and let's face it: they're good at both!  If they're determined to win at all costs, and the media is determined to cheer them on and ignore any crimes or ethical lapses of which they may be guilty, then what's to stop them from ruling effectively unchallenged?  What's to stop them from ruling FOREVER?

It's a question worth asking as we begin the fateful year 2021, which may be -- let's face facts -- the year that American democracy dies.  All this will sound like hyperbole to Democrats, I'm sure, but we Republicans aren't spitting in the wind when we say this election was stolen.  We believe it.  We don't consider the process remotely free or fair, and we assume, based on your shamelessness, that things will only get worse.  A sobering thought, no?

And remember, Dems, you love saying that we're fascists, that we're racists, that we're liars, that we're criminals, that we're gangsters, that we're monsters.  Should we doubt for a moment that you would be willing to cheat -- maybe just a little, at first -- in order to defeat us in the "most important election" of our lives?  Why WOULD you hesitate, after all?  And, given our unparalleled wickedness -- our "treason" and our "sedition" -- why wouldn't you do everything in your power to marginalize us, to silence us, and to render us politically harmless?  We EXPECT you to crush us, if given half a chance, and it sure seems like many of you are itching to try.  What's more, with the White House in your hands and with it the vast powers of the "Commander-in-Chief", the mischief you could get up to is virtually limitless.  You might even say that we are -- all of us -- putty in your hands.

Are circumstances indeed hopeless for us Trumpers and patriots, therefore?  No, of course not.  We have tools at our disposal, we have some residual rights and freedoms, and, perhaps best of all, we have the centrifugal forces within the Left itself, plus the Democratic Party's proven ability to shoot itself in the foot.  We can and, with God's help, we will defeat you, you lousy pinkos!  From this point on, we who love America need to start strategizing, therefore.  In the weeks ahead, I will offer my suggestions from how we can get the country back on track, and what role the Republican Party might play in that process.

So take heart, fellow Trumpers!  We have been forced to swallow a bitter pill -- four long years of "Democratic" misrule -- but hope springs eternal, and, with a whole lot of work, some determination, and a bit of help from the hapless Dems themselves, we can and will right the ship.  We have to believe that, because, if we don't, well, the Dems have already won.  I, for one, refuse to give them the satisfaction.

So let's get to it, shall we?  Let's take back America.  Let's show the leftists that Trump was just a warm-up act for what's to come: the definitive defeat of socialism, the rebirth of traditional American values, the flowering of American nationalism, and the re-institution of a constitutionally sound, limited government.  We can have all this and more, if we insist on it.

Who's with me?

  1. Nick, you can believe a lie with all your heart -- it is still a lie.

Biden won. He received votes from 81+ million people, more than 7 million more people than Trump. He reversed narrow victories for Trump in WI, MI, and PA, and narrowly won AZ and GA as well.

Biden won because Trump failed to deliver domestically. Trump was handed a strong economy, and for three years he managed not to screw it up too badly. His 185,000 jobs per month growth in his first three years was not as strong as Obama's job growth per month in his last three years (220,000 jobs per month), and GDP growth was about the same (2.4% in last three years for Obama, 2.5% for Trump). But Trump promised 3+% growth AND decreasing deficits. He failed.

Then, in the only crisis he faced -- his only real test -- he screwed up badly. He failed to take the pandemic seriously, and 330,000 (and growing) people died. Instead of leading on mask wearing, he ridiculed it. He said it would go away in the warmed weather, while it spiked after July 4. He is trying to take credit for the vaccine development, but the vaccines out there occurred because of the 25-year-effort to perfect mRNA technology. Otherwise, it liked would have taken far longer to get the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

Add in the fact that Trump is the most mendacious president in history, and the most boorish, and there's the recipe for Trump being the LOSER that he has always been.

One other fact that you miss, Nick, is that Biden also won because the factions within the Democratic Party worked together. Right now, Dems are much more cohesive than the GOP. The GOP has to decide for 2024 whether to double down on a LOSER (Trump) or try to define itself apart from Trumpism.

I am looking forward to watching that.

  2. In the 1989 movie "Tango and Cash" Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell play the roles of two Los Angeles Police Department Narcotics Detectives Ray Tango (Stallone) and Gabriel Cash (Russell).

During one part of the movie, Cash tells Tango "I don't know about you, but I have an aversion to getting F.U.B.A.R." and Tango asks "What's F.U.B.A.R?" to which Cash replies "Fucked-Up Beyond All Recognition".

F.U.B.A.R. is what the U.S. is going to be in 2024 after the country is run by a career politician of average intelligence who is in cognitive decline, ably assisted by a power hungry sociopath, and a fleet of egotistical and almost psychopathic power addicts, in high tech, the media, and academe.

And guess what? The failures of these people will all be blamed on none other than Donald Trump as he basks in the sun and plays golf at one of his Florida estates.

As for me, I don't plan to watch the news anymore. I certainly don't plan to watch the inauguration of our new president, and certainly none of his state of the union messages, or anything else he does, because I can't do anything about the relentless agenda to F.U.B.A.R. the nation.

Sorry Nick, but I have an aversion to F.U.B.A.R. and I don't care much for stress and anxiety and all the conditions they can produce such as strokes and heart attacks, and indigestion and so on.

However, I am sure that all the fools who voted for our incoming president are no doubt having massive brain orgasms in anticipation of his administration.

  3. Dr. Waddy, there is those who think that Joe Biden is in cognitive decline. Unlike Donald Trump, however, Biden knows who the president will be on January 20.

Perhaps the one in real cognitive decline is DJT?

Get some new material. We already know you hate Trump. Too bad you can't face the fact that your hero Biden is nothing more than a puppet and a pawn for Obama to get back in The White House, through Michelle, or at least control the so called Democrats as a type of godfather. Again, we all know you hate Trump, so quite repeating yourself like some senile person.

      Have a nice day.

  4. Dr.Waddy et al from Jack: President Trump the most mendacious ever? Really?! Ehh, Slick Willy?! Inveterate liar, cravenly and perjuriously dishonest about his leering, contemptuous assault on a woman he assumed by definition far below the status due his respect. And his nationally broadcast lies about the Lewinski situation, which was credibly pursued in order to establish a pattern of disdainful , presumptuous ,lascivious conduct on his part?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Bill Clinton lied about an affair he had in the Oval Office with Monica Lewinsky. While there were multiple lies about that episode, Clinton did not lie pretty much EVERY DAY. The Washington Post stopped counting the lies at 25,000. Twitter has had to post advisories to Trump's lies 538 times.

Clinton was not always honest, but there is no comparison between Clinton and Trump. Trump is the King of Presidential Liars by a large margin.

We all know that the real King of fornication is none other than JFK who fucked more women (married and unmarried) during his administration, than Clinton and Trump together have ever, or will ever fuck during their entire combined life times. And all of the women JFK fucked apparently like it. So far, I have not heard any complaints about him (JFK), or accusation of rape. And all Clinton really got anyway was a blow job. And most important, JFK was a Democrat.

  6. Dr. Waddy et al from Jack:The GOP has never been defined by "Trumpism", whatever that may be. It has been defined by allegiance to the real America and recognized in President Trump an advocate proven faithful to his promises. We will find our future leadership in one as true to our interests, including perhaps him.

  7. One thing I have learned for sure from the recent election is that the Democrats and the Republicans are really the same breed of cat. They should be called the Demo-Publicans, a single party with a Left and right wing.

What Trump did to upset the traditional elite set up, was to be elected by surprise by a majority of the American people in 2016 because he told it the way it was instead of the way the elite assholes of the DNC and the RNC wanted it to be and were running it.

Straight talk about border security and a host of other topics pissed off the elite insider cartel that had been running the U.S. for decades. This includes Reagan and Bush. But it was what many Americans wanted because it made sense. Secure the border. Quit sucking it up with the PRC. Make Europeans pay their way, and so on and so on. These are the Americans who the elite Democrats and Republicans have dismissed as "deplorable" and always did.

Having seen all the people that were supposed to support Trump and his ideas and who deserted him, has convinced me not to vote, ever again. Again, the Republicans and Democrats are the same breed of cat. All the elite assholes in both of these parties really want is control over people, and an alliance with high tech so they can make a lot of money. Fuck all of them! I'll just be out there paying my taxes and keeping my mouth shut under the New World Order machine now coming back through the Bidenistas. I'm just a deplorable.

  8. One would think that people who teach history and politics would know better than to make this error -- Donald Trump was NOT elected by a majority of the American people in 2016. He lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton by 2.85 million votes. Trump got a majority of votes in the Electoral College.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Rod,

That is correct, but Trump still got elected, didn't he? I known that, and I teach it that way.

My point is that a great many Americans are NOT fooled by the bullshit that both the Democrats AND the Republicans have been dishing out for decades now, with the aura of democracy and democratic processes, when in fact it was rule by elites.

It was Trump that called the elitists to task by proposing and enacting some corrections to some of the bullshit that was going on, such as lack of border security in the face of the never ending drug pandemic.

In any event, your fucking hero Biden will be president on January 20, 2021. That's nice. You must be happy. Enjoy.

  10. Dr.Waddy et al from Jack: The Washington Post is a proven instrument of intense, purposeful, vicious leftist bigotry! As a source of empirical evidence?Well, bless me for a fool but I do have doubts. 25000 confirmed untruths ehh? Were they counting when Willy was gleefully hustling and bustling? Ya think?!

  11. Rod, you're right that the Dems were "cohesive" in 2020, but that cohesion was born of two things: overriding hatred of one man -- Trump -- and the active suppression of any and all negative story lines about Joe Biden. How long do you think your news blackout will last when Biden starts to disappoint the party faithful? I would also point out that, despite being, by your reckoning, the second worst President ever, and despite the fact that your side changed the rules of the election midstream to favor itself, you still almost lost. I'd say that speaks well of Republicans' chances down the road...

Ray, as you know, you outclass me in pessimism, but I can understand and sympathize with your desire to avoid (fawning) news coverage of Biden and Co. I will do the same. Like Obama, I will treat Biden as a scourge to be borne in stoic silence. I certainly won't lend him any support. If he stumbles, I will indulge my Schadenfreude, because anything that brings the Democratic Party low will hasten the day when our beloved country returns to the right path.

Rod, unlike Joe Biden, Trump has shared the results of a cognitive test, and he has volunteered to take a drug test. But I will say this: Sleepy Joe is holding it together for now. Even under the best of circumstances, that man is good for many guffaws. I strongly suspect the next four years will not be "the best of circumstances".

Jack: good point that Clinton's lies were undeniably important, because they related to his violation of the law. If you ask me, counting "lies" is silly, because a lie is largely in the eye of the beholder. I still have not seen any Trump hater prove, to my satisfaction, a single intentional falsehood on Trump's part. Hyperbole, sure. Getting things wrong and backtracking, you bet. Not the same.

And Rod, I guarantee you that Twitter and Facebook will NEVER fact-check or flag ANYTHING Joe Biden says...and that's not because he's incapable of playing fast and loose with the truth.

I agree with Jack that the principles of the Republican Party, which are always contested to some degree, transcend one man: Trump. Trump's genius was in embodying and rediscovering several of those principles, which had lain dormant because the GOP establishment spurned them. I'm thinking of opposition to illegal immigration, for instance. Trump may or may not run in 2024, but he has provided Republicans with many lessons for how to build public support. Hopefully those lessons will be applied.

Ray, I agree with you that Trump was an affront to the elite, for all the reasons you mentioned, and that they decided to destroy him in consequence. They seem to have succeeded too. I hope you don't follow through on your threat to stop voting, though. As I've argued before, even if America IS doomed, which I'm not ready to concede, we all owe it to God and country to slow down our collective decline as much as we're able. You might say: a civilizational collapse deferred is a civilizational collapse denied?

  12. Dr.Waddy et al from Jack: A comparison between the indiscretions of W. Clinton and JFK s beside the point. Willy was taken to law for one of his probably many predatory sexual escapades by a principled prosecutor who, in order to do justice, had to seek evidence to establish a pattern of such behavior on Willy's part. In lying under oath about this he wrongfully attempted to deny an American citizen her day in court. JFK,whose escapades apparently lacked the contempt Willy bore his ehh, targets, was never legally challenged so . Besides, JFK was a helluva man who probably have despised Clinton.

  13. Nick,

The following small sample of Trump's lies about COVID are not hyperbole -- they are straight-up falsehoods:

    When: Wednesday, June 17
The claim: The pandemic is “fading away. It’s going to fade away.”
The truth: Trump made this claim ahead of his rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, when the country was still seeing at least 20,000 new daily cases and a second spike in infections was beginning.

    When: Thursday, July 2
The claim: The pandemic is “getting under control.”
The truth: Trump’s claim came as the country’s daily cases doubled to about 50,000, a higher count than was seen at the beginning of the pandemic, and as the number continued to rise, fueled by infections in the South and the West.

    When: Saturday, July 4
The claim: “99%” of COVID-19 cases are “totally harmless.”
The truth: The virus can still cause tremendous suffering if it doesn’t kill a patient, and the WHO has said that about 15 percent of COVID-19 cases can be severe, with 5 percent being critical. Dr. Fauci and other doctors rejected Trump’s claim, saying the evidence shows that the virus “can make you seriously ill” even if it doesn’t kill you.

    When: Monday, July 6
The claim: “We now have the lowest Fatality (Mortality) Rate in the World.”
The truth: The U.S. had neither the lowest mortality rate nor the lowest case-fatality rate when Trump made this claim. As of July 13, the case-fatality rate—the ratio of deaths to confirmed COVID-19 cases—was 4.1 percent, which placed the U.S. solidly in the middle of global rankings. At the time, it had the world’s ninth-worst mortality rate, with 41.33 deaths per 100,000 people, according to Johns Hopkins University.

    When: Multiple times
The claim: Children are “virtually immune” to COVID-19.
The truth: The science is not definitive, but that doesn’t mean children are immune. Studies in the U.S. and China have suggested that kids are less likely than adults to be infected, and more likely to have mild symptoms, but can still spread the virus to their family members and others. The CDC has said that about 7 PERCENY of COVID-19 cases and less than 0.1 percent of COVID-19-related deaths have occurred in children.

    When: Thursday, August 27
The claim: The U.S. has “among the lowest case-fatality rates of any major country anywhere in the world.”
The truth: When Trump said this, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and India all had lower case-fatality rates than the U.S., which sat in the middle of performance rankings among all nations and among the 20 countries hardest hit by the virus.

    When: Multiple times
The claim: Trump celebrated a gain of 9 million jobs as “a record in the history of our country” and said that the United States had experienced “the smallest economic contraction of any major Western nation.”
The truth: The country did gain 9 million jobs from May to July—after losing more than 20 million from February to April, during the pandemic’s first surge. So, we didn’t GAIN 9 million jobs. We RECOVERED 9 million jobs. Plus, more than a dozen developed countries have recorded smaller economic contractions than America’s recession.

    When: Multiple times
The claim: America is “rounding the corner” and “rounding the final turn” of the pandemic.
The truth: Trump made these claims before and after the country registered 200,000 coronavirus deaths. The country has now had 330,000 deaths, with the last month being the deadliest on record.

  17. Dr.Waddy et al from Jack:As a democratic principle, majority rule is sound but it can have unjust consequences. When it empowers dictators it has failed. A good present example is NY state, where majority rule has empowered a Governor who flaunts and enforces undisguised disdain for values treasured by millions of his perceived subjects. In 2016 but for the Electoral College, very similar injustice would have been worked on he whole country by a woman very open with her withering contempt for many, many millions who she casually dismissed as being given to deplorable tendencies. But for the College ,NY and California would forced her on us!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Dr.Waddy et al from Jack: The Electoral College was established and has been mantained in a democratic manner for over two centuries and President Trump's election was fully accredited by it. I think it curious when majority rule is urged by a small, very " elite" ideologically driven faction of the American polity which clearly and demonstrably seeks consummate, totaltarian say and sway.

  19. Rod, your catalog of misstatements from Trump ignores my previous point: getting things wrong does not constitute a "lie". A lie is an INTENTIONAL falsehood. Why would Trump claim the pandemic was about to end, if he knew it wasn't? That would be pretty dumb, no? Trump has repeatedly underestimated and misconstrued COVID, yes. That doesn't make him a liar. It makes him human. Remember, Dr. Fauci told us masks were ineffective against COVID. Does that mean Fauci LIES??? No. You would give Fauci the benefit of the doubt every time. You would give Trump the benefit of the doubt never.

As for Slick Willy's fornication, that was never the point. The sheer number of "lies" one tells aren't the point either. Clinton signed the bill that made it possible for those who claimed sexual harassment to troll through the sexual history of those they accused. He then subverted the same law by perjuring himself. That's not very, uh, presidential.

Jack, you are so right that democratic processes can produce authoritarian outcomes. One wonders, therefore, whether sometimes autocratic means might also be used to promote democracy? I bet Trump ponders that conundrum a lot!

Jack, I have faith that the electoral college is here to stay, but that's redundant if our elections themselves are corrupted by fraud. Next time, the Dems could win 538-0! And the media wouldn't bat an eyelash, as we all know.

  20. Nick, Trump knew how bad things were about COVID in February, as the tapes for the Woodward book demonstrated. So, his downplaying COVID was a LIE, as were his other comments. Not mistakes, not errors -- LIES.
