Red State Blues

Friends, those of us who live in "flyover country" -- that is, in the massive, traditionally-oriented, mostly rural heartland of America, ruled with disdain by coastal elites -- are feeling mighty dispirited these days.  In 2020, we lost the presidency and the Senate.  In 2022, we convinced ourselves that a "Big Red Wave" was coming to our rescue.  It flopped.  What's worse, the culture seems to be turning inexorably away from us and our values, and every major institution is abetting that decline rather than fighting it.  It's enough to make you ask the question: is it time to give up on American politics, and to accept defeat?  Whether we accept it or not, if we conservatives do end up as a permanent (or semi-permanent) minority in a nation ruled by forces mostly hostile to us, what will life be like?  This article begins to explore these vital questions, and I would very much like to hear your thoughts on it.

We keep hearing that the economy is about to plunge off a cliff, but it never quite seems to happen.  Even the housing market is now showing some signs of life.  Is this good news or bad?  Well, I guess it's good news for Team Biden, which means, as usual, we can't assume that the tide of history will sweep Sleepy Joe away.  We may have to do it the hard way!

Finally, in a move that will surprise no one, NASA has embraced and espoused identity politics in the selection of the crew for the first "Artemis" mission that will return mankind -- err, humankind -- to the general vicinity of the Moon.  Of course, the lefties still won't be satisfied.  What -- no disabled trans Pacific Islanders???  What an outrage!!!

  1. Dr. Waddy from Jack: The article was very plausible and disturbing. Of course we live in an already firmly one party state in NY. Its state budget time and we fly overs can only watch, wonder and regret:"well, what are they going to dictate this time; every year it is some disdainful mandate". Its a sorry "state" to be in and the article's prediction of it becoming a national fact is appalling. How do we in the cultural minority in N.Y. brook this injustice now( as injustice it surely is; majority rule is a positive principle but it can produce misrule)?Look to NY gun owners' travails especially after the last year for a telling early indicator of how it would be in all matters upon which the left fixes its basilisk eye ( i.e.EVERYTHING) as our steady descent into irredemable totalitarianism accelerates. The article does present credible tactics to employ should the american cultural marxists succeed in rendering us in flyover country, the real America, untermenschen. But that it looms with balefully real possibility: that is in itself intolerable.

  2. I agree, Jack: the article was "plausible and disturbing", and both in spades! Of course, if the Left acquired an effective monopoly on federal power, a major check on the capacity of states like NY for oppression would be removed. Then again, arguably the only reason we have a Republican majority in the House is because NYS judges, mostly Dems, decided that the redistricting plan dictated by the Democratic Party was unfair, and so redrew the boundaries more fairly. I guess that means that even Democrats and liberals occasionally can restrain one another. And who knows -- maybe the imperative that leftists feel so keenly now to hate and destroy us will fade once we cease to be a meaningful threat? All things are possible, but personally I expect the coming one-party state to be a terrible ordeal for anyone who isn't willing to self-censor and kowtow. Speaking of which, have I mentioned how much I always loved Hunter Biden's artwork???
