Liz Cheney's Swan Song?

Friends, apparently Wyoming's GOP won't decide who its candidate for the state's lone seat in the House of Representatives will be until mid-August, but, for my money, this will be the premier Republican primary of this election season.  There's simply no GOP representative who Trump and Trumpers would more dearly love to eject from the House than Cheney, and there's no current Republican officeholder who would more dearly love to embarrass Trump than our old friend Liz.  Based on all the polling I've seen, it's more or less certain that Cheney won't win the GOP nod, but, I assume, she has a backup plan, which may or may not include running as an independent.  It'll be fun to watch!

In other news, Russia has reconstituted its forces in the Donbas region and has been steadily pushing the Ukrainians back to the west.  This comes as no surprise to me, but may shock those of you who've been imbibing pro-Ukrainian propaganda courtesy of the MSM, including Fox News.  The intriguing question at this point is: will we ever reach a point where the Russians are satisfied with their gains, and the Ukrainians are content to accept their losses?  Much depends on what's percolating inside Vladimir Putin's unique brain.  I certainly haven't a clue!

It turns out that the contraction of the U.S. economy in the first quarter was due almost entirely to a spike in imports, combined with poor performance from our export sector, especially re: manufactured goods.  Is all this "transitory"?  Let's hope so, because, without a strong manufacturing base, all we've got left is intellectual property and the "good faith and credit" of our federal government, which still prints the world's favorite currency, the dollar (lucky for us!).

Is the U.S. economy currently looking shaky?  Yes!  Coincidentally, the Chinese economy is also struggling, perhaps more so than at any time since the 1970s.  Now, those of you who fear and resent Red China, as I do, may be inclined to celebrate, but not so fast!  The fact is, China's behavior on the world stage, which, for all our complaining, is generally quite timid, could get a lot more aggressive, if the CCP's "trump card", a constantly rising standard of living, is no longer playable.  You thought Russia's adventurism in Ukraine was upsetting?  To paraphrase Bill Bixby, "Don't make China angry.  You wouldn't like China when it's angry."

  1. Hi, this is Ray. Listen, if the Chinese get uppity, we will just send a gunboat up the Yangtse, and give those naughty Maoist Commies a well deserved naval spanking. And if Steve McQueen is on that gunboat, they will be even more afraid.

  2. Dr.Waddy from Jack: I dunno but I think present Chinese prosperity is a factor so dominant as to be the continuation of which is decisive! How could it be otherwise? The memory of insane Maoist doctrinal destitution persists in the still living and and an increasingly culturally traditional China probably reendorses the wisdom of the aged!

  3. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Let Rinos like Liz retreat unto their increasingly isolated refuges. We have a Presidential confirmation of the real American views of an elected real America devoted President and we we will accept nothing less now!

  4. Hiya Ray! Ohh, I wish it were that simple. Gone are the days, I strongly suspect, when an iron-hulled gunboat could make 400 million Chinamen bow down to us... Not so long ago, of course, we could have nuked them with impunity, but now even that option is foreclosed, given their nuclear buildup. No, I'm afraid those Chicoms are here to stay...and not to trifled with!

    1. You can thank Richard Nixon and that a. hole Henry Kissinger (Dr. Strangelove), for setting us up by recognizing the PRC behind the backs of Americans. The rest is history when our greedy corporations rushed over there for cheap labor and huge profits. What has happened is that our politicians have armed our enemy (the most ruthless communist dictatorship in the world, The PRC).

  5. The notion that Liz Cheney is a RINO is laughable. She has a more conservative voting record than Elise Stefanik.

It's a long time to August, especially if the Jan. 6 hearings show how much Trump was involved in the insurrection. The more Trump is shown to be culpable, the worse Hagedorn will do.

    1. Too bad you don't know what a real resurrection is, like the kind they used to have in Europe, many times. That's where whoever doesn't like who, barricades the streets and starts shooting. France in 1970 comes to mind for starters.

This so called "insurrection" in 2021 consisted of a bunch of morons (left or right does not matter) who broke in to the capitol building and were subsequently repelled. Who knows but the entire affair was a set up. In any event, you need to read up about real insurrections in history.

As for Liz Cheney, she is nothing but an egotistical bitch who failed in politics. In the long run it really does not matter much if she was in Congress or not, or what party she belonged to.

Don't forget to crack a history book or two about insurrections. Try the 1848 insurrections in Europe, and compare them to our Jan. 6 goat rope.

Fast forward to a right-wing insurrection in 1973 Chile. Try a left-wing insurrection in Cuba in the late 1950s compliments of "Che" Guevara and Fidel Castro. Perhaps you will learn that what happened on Jan. 6 was a demonstration that got out of hand, and is now called a "resurrection" by a bunch of damn fools who also need to read up on real resurrections.

Have a nice day, and quit posting trash that befits a dimwit.

So what will you do if real Republicans take charge of our Congress again? What will you do if we get another Republican president in 2024? Will you join a bunch of F***ing Left-wing insurrectionists?

  6. Looks like a need to distinguish between religious events and politics doesn't it. Resurrection should be Insurrection. Typos are weapons.

  7. Dr. Waddy from Jack: I think China's very old regard for the elderly has never been sidelined. Yeah the Red Guard did it for a relatively brief insane interlude in the '60s. Even that did not depose the aging Mao, whose insane edicts prompted this short lived "cultural revolution". By and by: Teng Hsiao Ping; a very senior citizen who restored the real China. If China's heretofore cautious, agedly sage international behavior is moved to adventure by internal dissatisfaction, that effort might be directed in recovering historically lost once Chinese dominated lands from a Russia whose land power is now much suspect.. That, rather than confrontation with the US Navy over Taiwan, MIGHT be the wiser choice.

  8. Dr.Waddy from Jsck: Rinos pusillanitously hold that stylistic differences are somehow important in an existential contest with thoroughly convinced far leftists! Regardless of their aesthetic misgivings, we must cast them aside in the real ,decisive conflict with the openly totalitarian, proven sociopathic left and its naive sprout, the American left!

Every time I read one of your posts, I realize what a literary genius you are. Hope you are having a nice Memorial Day, seriously.

  10. Oh boy. Ole Rod is still pining his hopes on January 6th to save the Dems' bacon. Sure, Rod, a two-year-old gunless "insurrection", and the terrifying memories it provokes, will surely cause all independents to pull the lever for Bidenism. I mean, the current plague of ACTUAL violence, of which ordinary citizens live in constant fear, couldn't possibly compare to the hurt feelings that your tribe experienced back in January of '21, right? Nah. Good luck, Rod! You'll need it.

But on one point Rod is right: Liz's hatred of Trump isn't ideological. It's personal. That's true for almost all Trump-haters, as a matter of fact.

Ray: that's a good question you posed to Rod. What will you do, Rodster, if the GOP cleans up in November? My guess is you'll do what you would have done regardless: you'll watch CNN/MSNBC and vote for, and donate to, whoever they tell you to. But maybe I underestimate your zeal. Would you consider lobbing a few Molotov cocktails, like your heroes the Ukrainians? What WOULDN'T you do to stop Trump from retaking office? That's what I'd really like to know.

Interesting proposal, Jack...that the Chicoms should turn their avaricious eyes to the north, instead of to the east. I wouldn't advise it. Is Russia much weaker than in the old Soviet days? Sure. Still, to attack Russia's home territory would be a lot riskier than to attack an isolated outpost of the West (only by courtesy) like Taiwan. I don't believe any American would die willingly for Taiwan. I believe Putin would sacrifice millions of Russians to keep his grip on Siberia.

Ray, I'd say Jack's genius is more poetic than literary. As a matter of fact, most of his remarks simply transcend the human condition. That may be why you struggle with them. :)

    1. I do struggle with Jack's prose, the same way I have problems with understanding speaking in tongues.

Once again, my point is that what happened in January 6 of last year was NOT an insurrection. There is absolutely NO comparison whatsoever between an insurrection and what happened then.

It was certainly breaking and entering, damage of public property, and disorderly behavior and some related charges, but it was NOT an insurrection. Anyone who thinks so is a dam fool, and a liar to boot.

I also question as to whether it was perhaps an "inside job" planned by the DemoNISTAS. Ya never know. People like Rod need to read up on real insurrections. France is famous for this. You know, barricades and all that.

  11. IF Trumpsters sweep in November (which I still think is doubtful -- Trumpsters might get the House, but I don't see any pickups for them in the Senate, while I see 2-3 pickups for Dems [PA, OH and WI]. NC is also in play with Trumpster Ted Budd against Cheri Beasley), I know that I will have to endure two years of gridlock. Trumpsters will initiate a lot of investigations that will go nowhere, and try a lot of legislative initiatives that Biden will veto. As usual, the crazies will over-reach, setting up the Dems to roar back in 2024.

Again, it's a long time until November. Things could get better (inflation is already showing signs of easing) or worse (the war in Ukraine could get much worse). The wild cards are the abortion decision and the mass shooting in Uvalde, both issues that benefit Dems by motivating Dem voters to get to the polls. It also helps that Trumpsters have picked some really bad candidates (J.D. Vance, Dr. Oz, Doug Mastriano and the CTE-addled Herschel Walker). So, I have hope.

  12. Dr.Waddy from Jack: Much thanx to you and to you ,Ray, for your favorable assessment of my writing. I put alot of stock in that! I have read very little of classic literature but I treasure Shakespeare. Informed, principled discourse is so redeeming and I'm glad to be part of it on this blog.I don't know where I got what gift of gab I have;I greatly admire Lincoln's eloquence.

  13. Dr.Waddy from Jack: Pelosi's unrelenting emphasis, using all her deservedly lame duck presumptuous adminstrative sway, on Jan.6, is as obviously disingenuous as to be discredited on arrival! That is proven by Dem exaltation and at the least, approval by lack of dismissal, of 2020 insurrectionally forceful seizure of government in Seattle, Portland and Minneapolis and mass forceful intimidation of public opinion and declaration in many other locales!

  14. Dr.Waddyfrom Jack: As always and until then: November is our opportunity to bury these incipient totalitarians, but perhaps not even them among those now traduced by the present day proven commies unless they turn out and be welcomed thereby, to vote common sense American principle! To them: please do not let the dems mislead you.!They are ONLY motivated by an expected complete takeover by them under which we would be under their complete dictate. Under us, democratic discourse and consequent popular sway, would prevail and that is ANTHEMA, worth any democratic repression to prevent!

  15. Dr.Waddy from Jack: I meant above: " join us, you of good will because you are being cynically misused by those who would suppress all democratic discourse, including yours! "

  16. Thanks for the analysis, Rod. You certainly are a "glass half full" kind of guy... Most pollsters will tell you, I think, that whether you keep the Senate depends on the size of the "red wave". If the current generic ballot polls are any indication (and, as we know, in aggregate they tend to undercount GOP support), and then I'd say you're in big trouble. But you're right: things could change either way.

Jack, I think it's adorable that the Dems still believe that January 6th can save them from their manifold failures. Rod, show me a poll that indicates that most voters give a damn. I mean, really... The Left's whining about January 6th is about as electorally significant as our whining about the Trump-Russia hoax. Not very.

  17. Nick, Let's see what the polls say AFTER the June 9 hearings begin.

As for generic polls, the weakness is that there ends up being an actual person that people vote for. Look at Nevada. Laxalt gives Trumpsters a shot at flipping the seat, despite his stated support of the Big Lie. But now Sam Brown is surging, and may win. The problems there are 1) Brown makes Doug Mastriano in PA look moderate and 2) Brown lacks the Laxalt name which is an important political name in NV. If Brown wins, the Dems hold.

So, yes, if you look at the generic polls, it does not look good. But if you look at the few polls for House races, there is no indication of any red wave -- more like the status quo.
