Friends, the latest furor on the campaign trail revolves around Joe Biden's intemperate remark that the only "garbage" he sees in this election is "his supporters", referring to Donald Trump's backers, of course.  Conservatives, Republicans, and Trumpers immediately got the vapors, but I commend Sleepy Joe for this rare moment of lucidity and candor.  Democrats and progressives absolutely despise not only Trump, but everyone who votes for him -- and they might as well admit it.  Kamala Harris is tying herself in knots trying to be inclusive and vicious, at the same time.  Good luck with that!  Meanwhile, Trump is saying that Joe should be forgiven, because he "not knoweth what he said".  This is naturally a reference to Biden's...doubtful mental acuity, but the Biblical allusion is a nice touch.  One suspects that lefties will find the merciful, forgiving Trump every bit as aggravating, if not more so, as the braggart and the windbag.  In any case, no one can deny that Joe Biden stepped all over Kamala's message for the day (and the week), which is that Donald Trump is unfit to serve as president.  It's as if Sleepy Joe became jealous and wanted to remind us that, "Hey, I'm unfit too!"

Finally, our beloved rogue SCOTUS, which carries water for fascists of all stripes, as we all know, has decided that states can, in fact, enforce the law and prevent non-citizens from voting.  Democrats are aghast!  I'm not quite sure why, because they're always telling us that non-citizen voting isn't a thing...  Anyway, this won't affect the election in any significant way, but it's a slight shot in the arm for election integrity and a reminder of Democrats' inanity, which never hurts at the eleventh hour.

Friends, something very interesting is happening in the mainstream media: parts of it are going "all in" with respect to the most unhinged, gratuitous, and asinine attacks on Donald Trump and his supporters.  Witness the MSNBC editorial decision to pair coverage of Trump's Madison Square Garden rally with historical analysis of the 1939 pro-Nazi rally at the same venue.  What do these two events have in common?  Geography.  That's about it.  But that won't stop lefties from claiming that everything Trump says and does is, ipso facto, fascist.  It's a lame line of attack, even for a bunch of lame-o's!

Meanwhile, other mainstream media outlets, including a growing number of newspapers, are enraging their progressive readership by refusing to endorse Kamala Harris.  The motivations for this sudden outbreak of neutrality and objectivity in the journalistic community are opaque, but one assumes that it comes down to this: these papers' corporate masters can see the writing on the wall, and they don't want to bet on a loser, and even less do they want to provoke a potential (fascist) winner.  Be that as it may, the tidal wave of lefties abandoning the print mainstays that have humored them for so long, by canceling their subscriptions, is extraordinary!  No doubt it's a symptom of the meltdown on the Left that I predicted yesterday, and which is only in its earliest stages now.  Might the media landscape be purified of some of its left-wing bias, when the dust settles?  Might some billionaires, like Jeff Bezos, be rethinking their fealty to a movement that so disdains them?  We can only hope!!!

You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet?

 

Friends, one of the surest signs that DJT is likely to win on November 5th (or shortly thereafter) is the Left's growing tendency to turn on itself.  That is, the blame game is already shifting into high gear.  Black women are blaming black men for a lack of vehemence, Democrats, from Biden, to Clinton, to Obama, are said to be sniping at Kamala behind her back, women are lecturing one another on how hard they ought to be working to forestall "fascism", a real-life Handmaid's Tale, etc etc.  What caught my eye is the fierce condemnation that the hard-left Washington Post has received for deciding not to endorse anyone in this year's presidential election.  The paper, as a bastion of progressivism, was naturally expected to endorse Harris, but, allegedly due to pressure from its owner, Jeff Bezos, it demurred.  Now, in response, thousands of lefties are cancelling their subscriptions, and the article below even calls for Democrats and progressives to defund Amazon Prime!  I agree with the basic assumption that no one should be putting money in the pockets of corporations that disrespect their values, but the fact that lefties would turn on the Washington Post, Jeff Bezos, Amazon, and the like for only toeing the party line 99% of the time instead of 100% is a sign of just how desperate and unhinged the Left has become.  I don't use those words lightly, either.  I believe that TDS is a real thing.  The anxiety and the hatred it inspires are so extreme that they can and do undermine the mental health of some people.  What's more, some of those people are folks who think of themselves as eminently rational -- indeed, super-intelligent.  However intelligent a person may be, though, or however dumb, we're all susceptible to irrational flights of fancy and to scapegoating those who dare to disagree with us.  In the next few weeks and months, Democrats and progressives are going to be hit -- if the polls are right -- with a shocking reversal of fortune, and with the materialization of what may fairly be described as their worst nightmare: another Trump presidency.  They will, to coin a phrase, "lose their sh**"!  No one can say for sure exactly what form this will take, and it all likelihood it will vary from individual to individual, and group to group.  Suffice it to say that the contemplation of extra-constitutional measures to prevent Trump from becoming president is possible, even probable, and the use of violence, on a small scale or even a large one, is something that shouldn't catch us by surprise.  It happened the first time that Trump was elected, and, if anything, the psychological commitment of many leftists to Trump hatred has ballooned since then.  On a personal level, if you know and care about any leftists, expect their emotions to be raw and close to the surface in the days, weeks, and months ahead.  I wouldn't recommend any form of triumphalism, if Trump wins, because that could only exacerbate liberals' sense of dread, and it could also complicate Trump's transition and increase, in the long run, the Deep State harassment and subversion that he has to deal with.  We should think seriously about how to reconcile with our fellow Americans who have been lied to and manipulated by the so-called mainstream media and the Democratic Party, and about how to deprogram them and reintegrate them into an America from which they've been alienated and estranged for far too long.  It won't be easy.  It might require a lot of subtlety and compassion -- qualities that Trump himself may be deficient in.  Give these challenges some thought, my fellow conservatives, because, unless I'm mistaken, they're about to become the central theme in American life.

Playing the Hitler Card

 

Friends, as Democrats grow increasingly desperate and apocalyptic in their rhetoric, they're comparing Trump to Hitler more and more, and even claiming that Trump speaks admiringly of Hitler.  Assuming you believe what anyone who hates Trump says, and assuming you ignore all the times Trump has condemned Hitler, it's an awfully credible smear.  Assuming you have a brain and a capacity for critical thought, on the other hand, it seems much like sour grapes by a party that's about to lose an election.  Anyway, speaking of Hitler, in the picture above he's shaking hands with Marshal Petain, France's hero of the Battle of Verdun who would go on to serve as the leader of the collaborationist Vichy regime.  I reference Petain when Brian and I talk about Verdun on this week's Newsmaker Show.  Of course, we also delve deeply into all the latest developments in the campaign for president, including the polls, the growing importance of Elon Musk, the British Labour Party's "election interference", and more!

Friends, lawfare may be backfiring, but we won't know that for sure until Trump wins in November, and even then we can't be positive that Democrats will abandon it.  In fact, they may double down on this insidious tactic.  What we can be sure of is this: if Democrats win, lawfare will multiply and will pose an existential threat to our constitutional system of government.  If you'd rather not see democracy die with a whimper, my advice is to vote Republican as if your freedoms depended on it, which they do!  And this, as you'll see, is the subject of my latest article:

Friends, in a move that could bolster his unstoppable momentum, DJT today served up a variety of fried delights at a Philadelphia McDonald's -- underlining his populist appeal and drawing a contrast with Kamala Harris, who claims she briefly worked at a McDonald's back in her "middle class" young adulthood (ha ha ha ha).  Whatever Trump is doing, politically speaking, he ought to double down on it, because the polls and betting markets are looking better and better for him every day, and sometimes every hour.

In other news, Elon Musk is raising eyebrows by offering Pennsylvania voters the chance to sign his pro-Trump petition...and giving away $1 million each day, every day until the election, to those who do.  The lefties are beside themselves!  This has to be "illegal", they say.  Well, is collecting ballots for cash illegal?  Is registering voters and being paid a set wage illegal?  We presume not, since these shenanigans are the lifeblood of the modern Democratic Party.  Well, all Musk is doing is entering people into a contest as a reward for signing a petition.  Seems pretty harmless to me.  In fact, it seems kinda smart.  What would you rather have?  $1 million of Musk's money, or a cold sneer from Kamala Harris?  Yeah, I thought so.

Hostile Territory

 

Friends, if you haven't seen it, you should definitely watch Kamala Harris's interview with Bret Baier of Fox News.  It ain't pretty, but it's enlightening.  Kamala bobs and weaves a ton, which isn't all that surprising, as a politician will seldom give a straight answer, but what did shock me was her tone, which was defensive, peevish, and at times just plain angry.  Possibly she's never been asked a non-obsequious question before, but she sure didn't seem to like it.  She also laid on the anti-Trump rhetoric fairly thick, which is an interesting choice, and perhaps inevitable if her campaign is faltering as much as many of the so-called experts (like me) claim it is.  If Trump hatred hasn't sealed the deal for Democrats yet, though, I kinda doubt that it will now.  At any rate, I got the impression from the big debate that Kamala was a cool customer, but it seems to me that she lost her cool Wednesday night.  And joy?  Nope.  Didn't notice any joy at all.

In other news, in an interesting twist, the U.K.'s leftist Labour Party is sending activists to this country to help the Harris campaign.  The media, apparently, is unmoved by this "foreign election interference", as it tends to move the dial in the establishment direction, which of course the vast majority of "foreign election interference" does!  Trump does not have many fans in the halls of power overseas.

As Harris's chances of victory diminish, at least based on public polls and betting markets, an increasing number of progressives are clutching their pearls and decrying the electoral college, which might very well hand Trump a victory that he fails to win in the popular vote.  And that raises the question of whether Harris and the Democrats would accept a Trump electoral college victory if it happens, or whether they would argue that, based on the popular vote and on the fact that Trump is, ipso facto, disqualified by being an insurrectionist, this means that Congress has no obligation to certify him as the winner and allow him to be president.  At the very least, this is a question that someone ought to be asking Harris: if Trump wins the electoral college, will you concede defeat?

Finally, some sources are claiming that North Korea is sending troops to Russia to join the war against Ukraine.  Well, maybe.  North Koreans are training in Russia, but no one can be sure of their ultimate destination.  In any case, the bigger story here is not the cozy relationship between Russia and North Korea, but the role of China as North Korea's main sponsor.  If North Koreans start charging Ukrainian positions in Donbass, it will be because the Chinese want them to, signaling a greater level of Chinese support for Russia and a willingness to risk a more definitive break with the West.

At the Cliff's Edge

 

Friends, our hearts go out to leftists on this Sunday just three and a half weeks before the election.  To say that they've been gripped by angst would be a distinct understatement.  Even their own polls, like the NBC poll just out today, show the race between Trump and Harris a dead heat.  Not surprisingly, they can't wrap their prodigious brains around this information, since Harris is joyful and wonderful and competent and accomplished and loves "democracy" ever so much, and Trump, by contrast, is...Trump.  How can the American people be on the fence between these two candidates, different as night and day?  Conservatives are baffled too, but a lot less so, because they fully expect that half the country will be listening to the siren's song of the mainstream media.  For progressives, as Kamala's honeymoon evaporates -- and we can't deny it was nice, from a leftist perspective, while it lasted -- the reality is setting in that all the lawfare, all the hyperbolic invective, all the years of stewing in TDS, haven't fundamentally changed the country's perspective on Trump.  In fact, perceptions of Trump and Trump's first term have improved recently, suggesting that efforts to undermine him may even be backfiring.  Heck, even bullets bounce off the guy!!!  As a Democrat or a progressive, you can understand why you'd be close to losing your mind at this stage -- assuming, of course, that you ever had a firm grip on reality to begin with.  It's worth remembering, along these lines, that a cornered animal, which is what leftists have become, is a very dangerous one.  Staring into the abyss of fathomless "fascism", the children of light may be tempted to turn to the darkness.  In other words, they might grasp at any straw that promises them deliverance from imminent calamity, which means that Republicans, conservatives, Trumpers, and patriots, while they may be tantalizingly close to ending the Biden-Harris train wreck, are also flirting with potential disaster themselves.  When the Democrats play their last card, in a desperate effort to ward off Trumpery, who can say that they wouldn't be willing to destroy democracy in order to "save" it?  You've been warned!

 

Here you'll find Mika Brzezinski, an MSNBC drone, fretting about Trump's viability.  One of the best things about this moment, if you ask me, is that Dems and progressives are starting to play the identity politics card on one another, i.e. arguing over whether it's white men, or white women, or black men, or black women, or Hispanic men, or Hispanic women, who are to blame for Kamala's weak poll numbers.  All I can say is: ha!  You reap what you sow, lefties.  Please, form up into a circular firing squad and...let 'er rip!

It's significant that SNL considers Kamala Harris eligible for mockery, because they've tended not to lay a glove on the Democratic presidential candidate at key moments.  I suspect the writers and producers must have argued long and hard over whether to subject Kamala to their subtle arts.

Finally, the Left is trying to suggest that Elon Musk has gone "all in" for Trump, and I'm happy to see that he's providing some financial support to Trump and Republicans, but the numbers discussed in this article are, frankly, chump change in electoral terms, and are totally derisory when you consider how rich Musk is and how much jeopardy he says he will be in if Trump loses.  Come on, Elon!  Step it up!  Time is short.  No conservative billionaire can afford to be stingy in this critical moment.

Friends, this week's Newsmaker Show includes a reflection on the fate of Spiro Agnew, Richard Nixon's Vice-President, who, like Nixon, won reelection in an unprecedented landslide, but was then ruined by a craftily executed campaign of what amounted to a 70s version of lawfare.  The lesson: when the Deep State wants you "out", you're out!  Possibly that was truer in the 70s than it is now, though?  The survival of DJT suggests as much.  Brian and I also consider France's exit from Vietnam in 1954, and the bombing of St. Paul's Cathedral in October 1940.

The Harris Machine

 

Friends, on one point Kamala Harris has every reason to smile, and maybe even guffaw: money.  She's raised more, and she's spending more.  Billions upon billions will be expended by the party representing the political, social, and economic establishment to ensure that it is protected from the ravages of Donald Trump and his legions of bloodthirsty, insane, fascistic Trumpers.  Will it work?  Money matters in politics, to be sure, but Trump was outspent in 2016 and 2020 as well, and it didn't stop him from exceeding expectations in both cases.  Note that Trump, a billionaire, has never invested much of his own money in his political (mis)adventures.  One might reasonably ask: why not?  That's especially true this year, when it's fairly clear that, if Trump loses, he stands a very good chance of ending his life in prison.  In any case, neither Trump nor any other deep-pocketed Republican or conservative seems motivated to spend the money necessary to close the gap with Kamala and her wealthy supporters.  Will Trump and Trumpers ultimately regret this lapse?  We'll see.

Finally, the DOJ is keeping the pressure on Google, and there is even talk of breaking up the company.  I say: DO IT!!!  Google is an anti-competitive behemoth and its dismemberment would make this country, and this world, a better place.  I have a sneaking suspicion, however, that the DOJ isn't serious.  Lawsuits like these may just be shots across Google's bow, i.e. a gentle reminder not to the bite the hand that feeds them, and is in turn fed by them.  Ultimately, the government and Google are in a symbiotic relationship.

Friends, the transition of Elon Musk, from conventional techie progressive to ebullient Trump supporter and free speech activist, has been remarkable to witness.  He completed his journey today by appearing onstage with Trump in Butler, PA, as both men recalled the failed assassination attempt against Trump in July, and as they exhorted Trump backers, and the undecided, to vote en masse for DJT as though the future of American democracy depended on it, which it very well might.  Say what you want about the phenomenon of Trumpism, but it sure has produced some monumental realignments in our country's political life.  And Musk's, lest we forget, is a voice that many young people and highly educated types listen to.  Let's hope they listen intently.

Papal Infallibility

 

Friends, this week's Newsmaker Show with me and Brian O'Neil reaches way, way back to the 1990s as we recall Sinead O'Connor's imprudent critique of Pope John Paul II on a little program known as Saturday Night Live.  People didn't react well to that, for you see John Paul II was a man commonly regarded as almost as holy as me!  Brian and I also tackle the reunification of Germany in 1991, and the strong American support for the IRA back in the 1980s.

Of course, we spend most of the show analyzing current events, including a deep dive into the nature and likely impact of the big Vice-Presidential debate.  We also consider the hostility between Israel, Iran, and Iran's proxies in Lebanon.  We ponder Elon Musk's argument that this election might be our last, Ukrainian President Zelensky's effort to mend fences with DJT, and the closure of Britain's last coal-fired power plant.

 

Not to put too much pressure on you, but my understanding is that anyone who listens to this week's show gets an automatic pass into heaven, so...you might want to check it out.

In other news, Rep. Byron Donalds makes an argument here that I believe more Republicans ought to be making: he's tying our problem with inflation directly to Kamala Harris.  Indeed, you can argue that, on the vast majority of Biden-Harris policy initiatives, Harris played a minor role.  In the Senate, though, she personally cast the tie-breaking votes that massively expanded government spending at a critical juncture for our economy.  Without Kamala, in other words, inflation might not have been so extreme.  Food for thought (assuming you can afford food).

Finally, this is a brilliant political argument by Republicans: they're claiming that the federal government doesn't have enough resources to help the victims of Hurricane Helene because of...illegal immigration.  In fact, this line of attack is rather questionable, but in an election year it sure could move some voters in a red-ward direction!

Friends, I invite your comments on tonight's debate between J.D. Vance and Tim Walz, but my initial reaction is that Vance lived up to his billing as an intellectually robust, articulate, and extremely affable Trumper.  He did, in my estimation, a much better job of selling the Trump record, and trashing the Biden-Harris record, than Trump did himself.  I doubt that any Vice-Presidential debate will ever prove decisive, but Vance reminded the American people that Kamala Harris has had three and a half years to solve all our problems, and instead she has only made them worse.  Enough said???
