Incarcerated...And Loving It?

Friends, Trump's lock on the Republican base has been slipping lately, but few things are more certain to restore the conservative rank-and-file's enthusiasm for "the Donald" than a questionable indictment from a George Soros-approved left-wing district attorney.  In other words, Trump's legal troubles may be just beginning, but there's a distinct, and entirely predictable, upside if he is indicted: almost every conservative, and almost every Republican, in the country will assume he's being railroaded because of Trump Derangement Syndrome.  Lefties will naturally be overjoyed at any prosecution, but they might want to stop and take a deep breath.  The quality of any prosecution of DJT surely matters, because if the case falls apart, or ends in a hung jury or an acquittal, Trump will emerge stronger than ever.  Long story short: the various legal assaults on Trump will be fascinating to watch unfold, because they might or might not deflect in him in his path to the presidency.  As a matter of fact, putting wind in Trump's sails might be exactly what the truly canny leftist wants right now, on the theory that Trump will be easier to defeat in '24 than someone like DeSantis.  Politics is a very complicated business, my friends!

In any case, I'm pretty sure Elon Musk is wrong in predicting that Trump, in the wake of his prosecutorial martyrdom, will win in a "landslide" in 2024.  Trump may win, but no one should kid themselves about the fact that the next presidential election is bound to be agonizingly close.

Lastly, in a bizarre twist of fate, as the leftist legal sharks are just beginning to sense blood in the water and to target Trump for destruction, Facebook and YouTube are once again allowing the man, and the movement, to utilize social media.  Imagine that!  Trump is allowed to speak!  This is, believe it or not, a big concession for organizations that loathe Trump and everything he stands for.  It's especially interesting that YouTube, which is a Google property, is taking this step, because Google has never expressed the slightest regret for its endorsement and practice of rampant censorship during the 2020 presidential campaign and throughout the COVID pandemic, as far as I know.  Is this, then, a sign that these platforms feel they need to give Trump a voice, to avoid the wrath of conservatives -- or is it perhaps instead a sign that they feel they may as well give Trump a little more rope, so he can hang himself?  Your guess is as good as mine.

Hey Nick (also known as Dr. Waddy Cum Laude?) No disrespect, okay? Just joking.

    Seriously,

I want to know why you decided to dump and trash Trump. You are now obviously (or at least it seems so) a DeSantis supporter. Why? What did Trump do to piss you off?

If elected, how will DeSantis "save" the nation (which is already on life support) from the ravenous wolves of The Left? Is running a state built over a swamp the same as running a nation?

I have a very good friend who has done the same thing. He thinks Trump is too much like a bull in a china shop, and doesn't know when to keep his yap shut. There is truth in that, but why switch to DeSantis?

Anyway, I would like to hear your explanation on why you switched your choice from Trump to DeSantis.

    Thanks.

    Ray

  2. Dr.Waddy from Jack: No doubt there are canny leftists with all manner of thoughts on how to get the Trump nemesis off the back of the righteous. But this unprecedented outrage is motivated chiefly by the emotion which propels the left to savage any obstacle. In this instance they are driven by intense blinding hatred both for President Trump and the America which knows him to be faithful. The left showed Slick Willy, a draft dodging perjuror ,for whom credible evidence of forcible rape existed ,all the Presidential deference they now deny President Trump. The Manhattan DA has demonstrated already his sympathy for violent criminals. His sense of judgement is highly suspect, yes? As a NYer I tender sincere regret to the real America for NY's smug and shameful imposition upon our country of his influence and that of Charles Schumer and our AG. We in common sense enclaves of this state cannot outvote the NYC looneys.By the way, perhaps the left's game is to convict President Trump and then have Pino Biden or governor Hochul pardon him, thereby perhaps mitigating the determination of the real America to disempower the "realpolitik" (a gift from Bismarck, lefties) devoted , casually amoral american left.

  3. Hi Ray. That's a fair question. I'm not "against" Trump or unwilling to support him, if he becomes the GOP nominee, but I've always been at least mildly skeptical of Trump, mainly because I'm dubious about his ability to deliver political victories and policy successes. He has numerous and grave weaknesses as a political candidate and -- let's face it -- he was lucky to win in 2016 based on the fact that Hillary Clinton was more or less as widely disliked as he was. Is Trump a loose cannon and very often his own worst enemy? Absolutely. So, in this cycle, added to the fact that I doubt he can run a disciplined campaign and manage to WIN, which is rather important, I have two additional reasons to doubt whether he's the best choice. One, he has a track record as president, which was great, from the perspective of leftists, who raised money, won control of both houses of Congress, and asserted unprecedented mastery of our culture, all under his watch. In other words, I believe America was in WORSE SHAPE after Trump was done "saving" it from the Left than when he took office. Four more years of that??? No thanks. Second, I have a genuine fear that, if Trump looks like he might win in 2024, the Left will do almost anything, including torpedo American democracy for good, to prevent that from happening. Our constitutional order is bruised and battered already, but it could literally be terminated, and I can think of no more plausible trigger for that than a looming second term for the man who liberals regard as the personification of modern-day "fascism". In short, it would not surprise me if they employed authoritarian means to avoid what they would regard as the demise of our "democracy". And that, needless to say, could get very uncomfortable for you and me.

As for DeSantis, I'm open to him, I admire his political successes, and I like what I hear from him ideologically, but I'm not ready to endorse him yet. He has to prove himself in the months ahead.

Jack, a pardon for DJT -- from the leftist powers-that-be? I doubt that! First, if he was convicted of this particular crime, the punishment would be minimal. No, I think this indictment, if it arises, will be just the first wave of a rising tide of judicial harassment, the purpose of which will be to kill Trump's movement in a death by a thousand cuts. Politically, the OUTCOMES of these trials only matter if they come before November 2024. If they come after, and the danger of a second term for Trump has been in the meantime removed, then I suspect the Left will become quite indifferent to Trump's fate. But if, perchance, he did end up rotting in a jail cell, I suspect the establishment would be quite relieved, and it would assume -- probably rightly -- that his incarceration would serve as a warning to anyone else who might contemplate challenging the hegemony of our ruling class. That is to say, their main goal is to prevent Trump, and future Trumps, from threatening their grip on power, and Alvin Bragg's antics are a means to that end.

    1. RAY TO NICK

Okay. Good enough reasons for Trump not to be president again.

I think DeSantis is overrated, but he is clearly going to run no matter what.

I think some other Republicans are probably going to throw their hats in the ring, Pompeo comes to mind.

  4. Dr.Waddy from Jack: As usual you have presented a mostly well supported argument free of the predjudicial emotion which presently moves so many, including me, with outrage at the personal onslaught on President Trump. As my friend in Pa. mountain country declared,"he says what what I want to say!". You betcha! And I am bothered not at all by his crudeness. The left's haughty disdain for his frankness when confronting them is completely gainsaid by its embrace of famously ditchmouthed Hillary and Slick Willy's casually obscene personal deportment, which disgraced OUR White House beyond measure .
In assessing the effects of his Presidency, surely his establishment of a lawful Scotus stands greatly to his credit and will have lasting consequence .Not a Rino among his three appointments; surely a catastrophic disempowerment of the American left in a setting in which for years they presumptuously forced counterintuitive measures on the country despite the impossibility of the measures ever being approved in legislature.

  5. Ray, no doubt! I expect it will be a crowded field, although I doubt many of the contenders honestly believe they can be the presidential candidate. Plus, the more that run, the higher the chances thatTrump takes home the prize. Hey, there are way worse things in life than Trump! I fully acknowledge that.

Jack, Trump's judicial appointments were/are undoubtedly his greatest legacy, and the closest thing to a vindication of his judgement that I can think of. On that score at least he listened to the REAL conservatives who had his ear. On so many other scores, sadly, he did not.
