Why Ukraine???

Friends, this week's Newsmaker Show is undoubtedly one of our best ever...but then I say that every week, and I'm still right!  This time Brian and I cover the mystery of why the U.S. and Western elites are so obsessed with Ukraine, and so averse to Russia; the vast gulf between Western and global perceptions of the Russia-Ukraine War; the outrageous rewriting of classic works of literature; and the rising credibility of the COVID lab leak theory (combined with the declining credibility of the establishment voices that pooh-poohed it).

When we get to This Day in History, Brian and I talk about the sad fate of the Lindbergh baby, as well as the mixed legacy of the JFK Administration when it came to promoting peace.

It's a barnburner, folks!  Listen in now, before frenetic worldwide interest in the show crashes the internet...

In other news, Democrats are warming to the idea of Biden running for reelection, which shouldn't surprise us, because Democrats will warm to whatever the mainstream media tells them to.  In the big picture, as a matter of fact, I consider this good news, because the Dems are doubling down on a deeply flawed candidate.  Assuming the GOP nominates someone halfway decent, Joe Biden is eminently beatable...and beat him we must!

Finally, Liz Cheney is landing on her feet, as we all knew she would.  The University of Virginia has given her a professorship, based on her legendary reputation for "integrity".  Not mentioned is whether she will actually teach any classes or just enjoy a hefty paycheck.  Make no mistake: Cheney played a starring role in the establishment's crusade against DJT, and she will be richly rewarded!

  1. Dr . Waddy from Jack: Lotsa good stuff in the broadcast: Publishers who alter classic works at the "behest" of the woke may do so with strong misgivings but they may well fear for their businesses should they otherwise provoke the puritanical zeal of the increasingly inst itutionalized woke inquisition. It brings to mind Arthur Miller's play The Crucible,in which he symbolized and denounced American post WWII anticommunism. In that and in Death of a Salesman he trashed the American dream at a time just after Americanism had saved civilisation.I'd lik e to see The Crucible restaged now in a manner which suggests today's woke vindictive moral dictatorship.

  2. Dr.Waddy from Jack: It is understandable that China would see western support for Ukraine as a repeat of the western expansionism which brought China such misery and destitution in the 19th century. Their particularly long range view of history as a 3000 year old civilisation impels them to do so and its a factor we must take very seriously . Likewise, we must at least acknowledge widespread public support for the war in Russia. There can be only one motivation for the prospective Ukrainian membership in Nato which caused this war despite repeated warnings from Russia and some American Russian history scholars; that is the decisive military disempowerment of Russia save the use of nuclear weapons. What country would willingly receive such a shameful blow to its defenses?

  3. Dr.Waddy from Jack: An attitude in Ukraine of"well we might as well fight them, how could it be worse than what they've done to us in the past and now?! " is understandable. Russia has unleashed incalculable savagery on Ukraine in still living memory and is doing it again. That's another key factor we appear to have minimized when we made our present commitment. Intransigent Ukrainians may hold a majority view - maybe.

  4. Jack, I have no doubt that many good books and sensible authors are presently being denied publication, simply because they don't parrot the popular woke/leftist line... It's when we reach back into history and start deleting PAST books and authors that things really go off the rails. We can't even REMEMBER a vision of the world that's pre-DEI??? Now that's nutty!

Jack, China seems to resent continued Western domination, which, as you point out, makes good sense, seeing that they were for hundreds of years victimized by it. On the other hand, the degree to which modern China has been (lucky for it!) Westernized is hard to overstate...not that that will forestall any of the resentment, mind you.

Hmm. I'm not sure "Russia" inflicted great misery on Ukraine in the 20th century. Wasn't that mostly the USSR? Ukrainians may not observe the distinction, but it is of some importance.

  5. Dr.Waddy from Jack: Good point. There were alot of Central Asians in the Soviet army; probably some Georgians, Tartars, Chechens etc and yes, ethnic Ukrainians too. Still: Russia ruled the USSR.

  6. Hmm. I would qualify that statement. A small cabal of kooks ruled the USSR, most of whom were ethnic Russians.

  7. Dr.Waddy from Jack: As much as I've read about it, I still cannot understand how a THING like Stalin, who treated even his closest "comrades"with contemptuous savagery, was able to mobilize the mobs it took to carry out unimaginable subhumanity like the commanded Ukrainian famine of the '30s.
