For Liberals, This Time...It's Personal
Friends, have you noticed how Trump-hatred often has an emotionally overwrought, asinine quality to it? The truth, I'm convinced, is that the Left's disdain for Trump has very little to do with policy. They just can't stand Donald Trump the man. They hate his guts. It's his brashness and his refusal to kowtow to their PC norms that really gets their goat. In any case, I just had to read the article below, because its title -- "Donald Trump's Personality Is An Impeachable Offense" -- struck me as, well, liberalism to a tee. The article itself isn't that great. In fact, it doesn't make a case for impeachment, per se, at all. It's just a broadside against Trump's character, of the sort we're now used to seeing in the guise of "news." The takeaway? The Left simply does not care what pretext they employ to impeach Trump. They just want him gone. The law and the Constitution are, and always have been, utterly beside the point.

Be that as it may, the Democratic leadership is too smart to pursue impeachment when they know it will fail. The rank-and-file "progressives," however, are not smart at all -- and they want to dig their claws into Trump, regardless of the consequences. The investigations will continue ad infinitum, naturally, but I wonder if the leadership will find a way of putting impeachment to bed? Censure? We shall see.

Lastly, although illegal immigration and phony asylum-seekers should be dealt with for far more significant reasons -- like upholding the rule of law and American sovereignty -- we can't escape the fact that all these poor, uneducated, unskilled "immigrants," mostly from Central America, will also be a burden on the American taxpayer. Dr. Waddy: Character huh? So the left would have us believe they are all in extremis about character flaws in our President fully as egregious as to disqualify him for his office and to provide justification for their, yes, personal onslaught on him. The following mantra is sufficient answer: "William Clinton , William Clinton . . . ." Is Donald Trump a convicted perjuror? Wasn't Slick Willy accused of aggressive sexual,
ReplyDeleteuh, "improprieties" and avoidance of military service in time of war? But the left went to the wall for him despite even his disdainful denial to an American citizen of an honest day in court to challenge him for tawdry and cynical wrongs he did her. Exemplary Charles Schumer, oh so very unrelentingly and publicly contemptuous of Donald Trump, deemed Clinton's consequently deserved impeachment "ridiculous". For this hypocrisy the left forfeits all moral credibility in attacking President Trump's character, of all things. And that's something we should point to tirelessly and without stint.
One word describes their vindictive, frantic and juvenile crusade: VICIOUS! To most conservatives its no surprise that the the assuredly far left Dems reacted this way to Hillary's unendurable rebuff, no matter its lawfulness; its certainty has long been a prime reason so many of us are conservative . We know their fully predictable behavior gives us yet again full warning of the fundamentally intolerant and ultimately totalitarian "character" they would manifest should they ever achieve the dictatorial sway they long for.
Dr. Waddy: As always, Fox would not ante up. But I do love them so! Why oh why do they this to me? Anyway:
ReplyDeleteThis apparently now revived impeachment quest will be a good test of how much power the far left has seized in the calamitous Dem entity. It will almost certainly support what has to be one of our key points in 2020: that the Dem party sees itself as free now to reveal the aspirations and convictions it has long held but about which it has been, without regret, thoroughly dishonest. That is, that it purposes the forceful transformation of the U.S. into "fundamental transformation" on a model which rejects the values held by most of America, because it believes us to be ignorant and satisfied with our reluctance to embrace their irrefutable justice. Also guaranteed is the certainty of their intended punishment of all who have doubted them, either directly, due to close consideration of their behavior or in their enactment in their lifestyles of regard for the proven American essence of benefits accruing to those of meritorious behavior, of respect for duly constituted governmental power, of tolerance but of unwillingness to be bullied thus and of the conviction that our country embodies invaluable beliefs the rejection of which would be beyond tragedy.
Dr. Waddy: I would be willing to see a portion of our national wealth go, VOLUNTARILY, to the relief of the wretched from their agony, if it were possible. In some countries our money is very valuable and might render profound benefit. But their governments, based as they are on cynical convictions that power is all and is ,in itself, justified, constitute a perhaps impenetrable barrier. Only popular risings, perhaps improbably free of cynical Marxist promises , can break the hold of the arrogantly venal and thoroughly self seeking gangsters who control so many third world countries.
ReplyDeleteHow very, very fortunate we are to be free of such settings. What great good fortune we have in our very birthplaces.
VICIOUS indeed! It's a good word, and I don't hesitate to employ it. You're right that we can add the word "hypocritical," because the Left has long argued that personal morals are irrelevant to the quality of one's public service. Adultery? Who cares, say the liberals. But if Trump gets an extra scoop of ice cream, or takes too many mulligans on the golf course, the Left screams: IMPEACH! How sophomoric.
ReplyDeleteI'm puzzled why you can't access Fox News articles. Other articles open without any problem?
As for impeachment, in one sense the goal of the Dems seems simple: drag out the process as long as possible, so as to inflict maximum damage on Trump, and so as to avoid making a decision about what to do in response to his dastardly deeds. Because, as we both know, when pressed to decide, Democrats will tie themselves in knots. The day may be fast approaching.
We are indeed lucky to live in the USA! Amen to that. Luckily, though, corruption and misrule have receded in much of the Third World, and prosperity is spreading. You won't hear that from Bernie, needless to say, but it's true. In fact, the Northern Triangle countries in Central America have mostly improved their economic performance in recent years, although they remain very poor by American standards. In my view, incremental improvements in the Third World will NEVER eliminate the incentive to immigrate illegally to the developed world, because the gulf in living standards will remain huge for the foreseeable future. No, if the border is to mean something, it has to be ENFORCED.
Dr. Waddy: I'll try accessing cited Fox articles thru my Email. That has worked before.
ReplyDeleteHuman misery is so hard to countenance especially when we know how good modern life can be. Though they may never reach our superlative good fortune, some improvement in material well being might be a source of comfort for those who have endured destitution. I think that has been true in China and that it may be realized in Latin America.
As I recall, leftist countries tend to be, ehhh, "sensitive" about their borders and I would expect a Marxist America to follow suit. As usual, dreamy leftist principles are gainsaid by reality and radicals in power get very "real" right quick.
True, Jack -- the People's Republic of America probably wouldn't take any guff from its neighbors. So maybe this problem will solve itself eventually? I suppose, eventually, all problems do.
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy: That's an onerous prospect but it does suggest this possibility: perhaps for the Latin American poor an America with a credible, well enforced border would be to their advantage. First, it would allow legal immigration to some. Second, it might put decisive and irresistable pressure on their governments to pay more attention to their needs; you have already suggested that a trend in that direction obtains. Third, an America relieved of the untenable and unendurable problem of an uncontrolled border might be more willing and more able to come to their aid.
ReplyDeleteI believe that many people, when afforded a chance for material adequacy and a consequently more decent life, will be far less motivated to journey to any foreign land, no matter how much more prosperous it is. Its often such an indescribably hard thing to leave one's home and familiar surroundings.
I couldn't agree more. Good fences make good neighbors. That's a truism that never gets old. I believe it would greatly improve relations with our Latin American cousins if we all held one another's sovereignty sacrosanct.
