And So It Begins...
Friends, consider it a foretaste of what is to come in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination. Lucy Flores, a Nevada Democrat, has leveled accusations of inappropriate touching against former Vice-President and current Democratic front-runner Joe Biden. Several of Biden's opponents have already declared that they "believe" Flores -- surprise, surprise! Will Biden be intimidated into withdrawing his candidacy? Will accusations of racial and gender bias, and inappropriate behavior, bedevil the Democrats, regardless of who is in the race? I say: probably yes. Destroying people's reputations and careers by accusing them of wrongdoing is a left-wing specialty. The rules of evidence? They're interpreted very loosely. Things could get ugly, folks!

I also recommend that you read this superb article by Donald Trump, Jr. He lays out for Democrats their two options: continue beating the drum of Trump-Russia collusion, or get a grip, move on, and start working for the betterment of the country. The latter option may sound far fetched, but some Democrats, the rational ones, actually would like to turn the page. One suspects their voices will be drowned out by the bitter-enders.

Lastly, America's success in achieving energy independence is often overlooked, as is our success in reducing carbon emissions. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry is doing a fine job. I commend him.

Dr. Waddy: What delicious dark comedy this affords us in the real America as we watch the assured hurly burly which presages the distant Dem "nomination". Accused Dems have no defense, none, as they have been uniformly eager to summarily condemn any so, even unto standards unseen since Salem, charged. They will disingenuously invoke the McCarthy era but they know, they know, the Reds HAD infected our body politic then, McCarthy's crude denunciations notwithstanding. And so do we! This is high comedy and redeeming, to see the Dems savage one another like feeding hyenas, as they would our democracy.
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy: Donald Trump Jr.s' summation of his father's accomplishments is honorable and well supported. But I think there to be NO chance, none, that the Dems would consider any accomodation of our President. Like Shakespeare's version of Richard III, they have "set my life upon a cast and I will stand the hazard of the die". They are ineluctubly devoted to total opposition to the President. Perhaps the President's son agrees with this and raises the very distant possibility of their relent but to emphasize its near impossibilty.
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy: Secretary Perry's actions are yet another manifestation of President Trump's restoration of common sense to our national administration. Nuclear power and natural gas are certainly the way to go and for American companies to seek business (and gasp, profit!) therein, both here and abroad, is an obvious benefit to the real America and therefore of course anathema to the mindless left.
ReplyDeleteJack, I suspect you're right that Don, Jr. isn't foolish enough to think that the Dems will take him up on his offer to forge bipartisan consensus in the national interest. He must know the vendetta will continue. And yet...a small cadre of moderate Dems from swing districts will want to APPEAR reasonable. Pelosi should worry about them, just as she worries about her rebellious fringe.
ReplyDeleteIt's true -- it's amusing to see the Dems turn their #MeToo firepower against one another. We'll see a lot more of it. From a strictly strategic perspective, it's best if Biden is merely hobbled by allegations right now. Once he's the nominee, we'd like to see more women come out of the woodwork, and don't think it isn't in the cards. The standard of "evidence" is mighty low. The other interesting question is: can Joe stop being Joe? Can he keep his hands to himself? It doesn't seem like much to ask, but his personality is remarkably predisposed to...glad-handing?
Dr. Waddy: I wonder why people with common sense and appreciation of our great good fortune here in America, stick with the Dems. Perhaps they think they can have a moderating effect on that increasingly dominantly extremist party. Occasionally they may, because yes, to stay in office they may have to appear to be possessed of good will and may consequently work some minor concessions but I don't think they can persuade the essential Dem to beware the precipice. The intoxicated radicals are going for it all this time - do or die - because they think Trump to be unsustainable. Pelosi should worry; in December of 2020 she may well be the politically doomed Captain of a shipwreck and preparing to go down with it.
ReplyDeleteIt may be that the Virginia Governor has survived the revelation of his politically incorrect disgrace. But he does not receive the kind of scrutiny a Presidential candidate gets. My guess is that this current inquisition, together with his past embarrassments, makes Biden's nomination unlikely. We can expect that oh so currently fashionable Beto will be similarly confronted and perhaps even Spartacus too, whether there be substance or no. The Dems may well decide that they must nominate a woman (women) in order to neutralize this factor. Is that Amy (I'm sorry, I can't spell her name) from Minnesota willing to be the "moderate" stalking horse for a real loony which Biden once appeared to be? Of course Harris would appear to have the strongest armor against scandal but support for her must countenance her unworkable views and her California opprobrium.
Hi Jack. Hmm. Why any "moderate" would side with the Dems is beyond me. My guess would be they watch CNN, so they think the Dems are moderate. (In other words, mental illness.)
ReplyDeleteSo you think Biden is toast? I don't know. I see a lot of voices circling the wagons for him. Even Tucker came to his defense (maybe a bit of strategy there)! I don't think these accusations can deny Biden the nomination -- but he might still decide not to run. What's he waiting for, after all? If he DOES bite the dust, I haven't a clue who will emerge as the nominee.
Dr. Waddy: I think there a plausible possibility that it has come to this: the loonies actually have taken over the Dem entity and they just will not tolerate a moderate running in their name.
ReplyDeleteGads, I saw an article from a liberal source today stating the lalas are going to try to get the House to pass the Green New Deal. Oh would that they do! Illustrating the article was a picture of AOC displaying her now characteristic fanatic mien. She has eyes redolent of Manson like insanity and vindictiveness. May she prosper within her self destructive faction, to the eyeopening benefit of the real America!
Quite right, Jack! Would the House pass the Green New Deal? It's hard to imagine, given that not a single Senator would vote for it, but maybe. Perhaps they could water it down? "We, the undersigned, express our fondness for trees and grass and such, etc."
ReplyDeleteIt will be all-out war in the Democratic Party to prevent a moderate from winning the nomination, I agree. In effect, Biden is now being warned of what's to come. So far, he doesn't seem fazed.
Dr. Waddy: The legislative process and the nomination dynamic may have significant differences. We can be certain that many Dem Senators voted "present" while actually favoring the fantastic Green New Deal. That sham will probably be recreated in the House, where ancient Madame Pelosi still wields some sway. But the 2020 Dem convention could be a whole different deal, yes? We know they will go for the GND being incorporated in the party platform, with AOC presiding over prolonged thunderous ovations and obsequious fawning. This could have the same nation wide political impact as a House vote in favor now.
ReplyDeletePoor 'ol Biden. I'm within four years of his age. What, is he OCD ridden and driven to accomplish his lifelong goal? Does he think himself the savior of his party from being cast into "chaos come again?" Does he think his oratorical puissance equal to Donald Trump's dismissive skills? Now he resorts to self parody; does he think that can get him elected? Foolish dear - its time to retire. And when you do, expect the lala falutin deluge - you can't stop it!
Jack, I'd say you're at the top of your game despite your age, so maybe there's hope for Biden yet... Your mention of AOC at the Dem convention intrigues me. It will indeed be fascinating to see how the convention handles firebrands like AOC, Omar, Stacey Abrams, et al. Here's hoping the 2020 Dem convention is a farce on a legendary scale!
