Big Money, Big Money!!!

Friends, what American doesn't enjoy a sudden deluge of riches, am I right?  Well, that's the position that Senator Josh Hawley finds himself in.  Despite a drumbeat of evisceration from the Left, Hawley is now the darling of right-wingers and Trumpers, because of his bold, principled, courageous defiance of the Beltway orthodoxy that Biden's "win" in the electoral college is indisputable.  Whether Hawley ultimately runs for president we shall see, but he sure looks set to become a major player in the "loyal opposition" to Bidenism.

In other news, the Dems are trying to push through their fiscal travesty of a COVID "Relief" Bill, costing $1.9 trillion!  Whether they can manage it is unclear, though, because they'll need Senators like Joe Manchin on board, and he would prefer to involve Republicans in the process.  My money is on compromise.

Could Mitch McConnell be on his way out as Minority Leader in the Senate?  Check out his favorability ratings, which are lower than ever.  That's not a surprise.  Liberals have always loathed him.  No change there.  Conservatives have given him good marks until recently, but now that he's decided to join the Liz Cheney wing of the GOP and trash-talk President Trump, he might be cruisin' for a bruisin'.

It looks like Gavin Newsom is genuinely in danger in California.  It's true that the Golden State is so blue that he may be able to weather the storm, but as soon as the recall gets on the ballot, and it easily could, all bets are off.

You may recall that the U.S. economy shrank 3.5% in 2020 -- a dismal performance that was, naturally, blamed on Trump.  Well, now we learn that the Eurozone economy shrank by almost twice as much!  Could that be a sign that Trump's (and Republicans') policy of keeping businesses open was an economic boon?  Nah, Trump's still an ogre.  Goes without saying.

Fun fact: Trump haters don't really care about anything, seemingly, except how much they hate Trump.  Witness the massive declines in viewership for CNN and MSNBC since Biden took the helm.  Turns out these pseudo-journalists need Trump in the news far more than conservatives do!  One wonders: will Dem voter turnout in 2022 and 2024 fall precipitously as well?

Oh dear!  It looks like the Washington press corps doesn't appreciate being treated as loyal employees of Team Biden.  Sparks are flying already...and you better believe that the relationship between reporters and the Bidenistas will deteriorate from here.

Finally, here are two VERY significant stories.  They're about conservatives politicians, in Florida and Poland, respectively, taking action to stop social media censorship.  How effective will measures like these be?  I don't know.  Yes, Big Tech may face pushback when it censors, but it will also face pushback (from the Left) when it doesn't.  Bottom line: probably only serious legal and/or financial consequences could ever convince our Big Tech overlords to stop trying to silence the right.

  1. Speaking of POLAND. That country certainly has been a staunch defender of Western Civilization. A Polish Army prevented the Muslim Turks from breaking into Western Europe in 1683. In 1920, another Polish Army turned back a Russian Communist Army who was intent on invading Western Europe. During World War 2, Polish Soldiers and Airmen in exile from a Nazi Occupied Poland helped to defeat Hitler, along with the anti-Communist and anti-Nazi Polish Home Army. In the 1980s, Poland paved the way for an end to Communist Dictatorships in Eastern Europe through the Solidarity Movement. Now Poland is trying to preserve it's national sanity by fending off the arrogant demands of the Europe Union, and the fool in Brussels who run that organization.

    Long Live Poland!

  2. It should be understood that Poland is NOT an Eastern European country but a Central European country.

  4. Lots of things to respond to here.

First, in CA, they need to get enough signatures to force the recall. That may happen.

Then, within 80 days, there needs to be a special election with two questions -- does Newsom get recalled, and, if yes, who is the alternative candidate. Gray Davis got recalled in 2003 because 1) he was not popular at all, even among Dems; 2) CA was involved in a major electricity crisis (triggered originally by Enron); and there was a popular alternative -- Arnold Swarzenegger.

Two of these conditions don't apply for Newsom -- he is popular among Dems and there is no popular alternative. So, it is highly unlikely he gets recalled.

As for CNN and MSNBC, a one week dip, particularly after all the news of the first 21 days of January, would be expected. Fox didn't drop because its ratings had already cratered. CNN won the month. How ratings look in a couple weeks will determine if it is a trend.

Finally, DeSantis is delusional if he thinks his regs hold up. The tech companies are not headquartered in FL, so the related commerce is subject to interstate commerce rules. The moment DeSantis tried to implement these measures, they go straight into federal court, and DeSantis gets laughed out because of Section 230. So, it looks like DeSantis is being tough, but his proposed regs are toothless.

  5. Well said, Ray! You're right: those Poles are plucky, and we owe them much. Their current government is very brave to buck the left-of-center Euro-establishment. Any country that can successfully bring Big Tech to heal will have saved Western Civilization no less than Jan Sobieski, as far as I'm concerned.

Rod, you're right that it's a heavy lift to get rid of Newsom. If his ratings continue to slump, however, then the Dems themselves will start to salivate over his corpse, and then who knows...

True, one week's worth of ratings doesn't mean much. Fox is no longer the network of choice for conservatives, either, so its performance doesn't signify much. It only stands to reason, though, that the Story of Biden will be less compelling than the Story of Trump. The only way CNN and MSNBC could keep their ratings at Trump levels is to lobby for an impeachment per week. Could happen.

DeSantis's reforms aren't relevant to Section 230, as I understand it. Section 230 relieves the tech companies of liability for the comments people make on their sites. DeSantis wants to penalize them for inappropriate or excessive moderation of those comments, and for not allowing people to opt out of that moderation. That's different. Moreover, he's doing it only for Florida residents, and people running for office in Florida. Seems kosher to me. I guess we'll let the courts decide.

  6. Dr. From Jack: I would be so hesitant to condemn Mitch. Question his recent stances, yes. But he has been a soldier! I know we are all aware of the faithful services he has done the real America in the last decade. EG. A lawful Scotus!

  7. Dr.From Jack: Could it be that CA is redeemable? Perhaps!. If so, then the redemption of America is conceivable!

  8. I know what you mean about Mitch. I'm really surprised to see him come out so strongly against Trump and in favor of Liz Cheney. He's supposed to be the voice of the Republican Caucus in the Senate, after all. He doesn't seem to be in the mainstream of the party anymore on Trump-related issues. I honestly believe his nose is out of joint because he views Trump as responsible for the debacle in Georgia -- and not without reason. McConnell himself may be partly to blame, though, because he didn't exactly read Trump the riot act BEFORE January 5th/6th... Anyway, maybe we can all get past this. I really question, though, whether leadership positions are appropriate for Republicans who push the Dems' misleading talking points about the "insurrection".

  9. Dr. From Jack: It does look like Manchin will have a say in how this otherwise pork laden travesty of a typical Dem/Left "relief" bill will go. He must be a pain in Schumer's totalitarian neck with his atavistic notions of democracy instead of elitist rule.

  10. Dr.From Jack: These leftists are very much like the criminals they exalt and excuse! "Any means necessary": that is their credo. Their cadre expect a bottomless trough in which they may snuffle and root for politically correct goodies. This disingenuous bill is the proven leftist way of delivering .

  11. Yes, Jack. I am VERY encouraged by Manchin's show of courage. He alone can guarantee that the Dem spending spree will be shelved.
