Has New York State Passed the Point of No Return?

Friends, this week's Newsmaker Show asks a whole bunch of searching questions, among them this one: can New Yorkers take back control of their state from a gang of self-interested, corrupt politicians?  The recent resignation of New York's Lieutenant-Governor, who is charged with being part of a bribery scheme, puts this question front and center.  I argue that New Yorkers need (desperately) to vote Republican this November, because, if we become a one-party state, all hope of accountability is lost.

In addition, Brian and I cover such weighty topics as: inflation and its political effects, the coming battle royal in eastern Ukraine, and the horrors of China's merciless campaign to eradicate COVID by oppressing its own citizens.

When we get to "This Day in History", Brian and I talk about Hitler's (misplaced) bravado in April 1945, the (stupefying) strategic implications of the 1941 Non-Aggression Pact between the USSR and Japan, and the rights and wrongs of the Katyn Massacre of Polish officers by the Soviets, which the Western Allies labored to cover up.

In other news, "President" Biden deplores "genocide".  That is, our fake leader opposes fake genocide.  How does he feel about actual genocide, though?  Eh.  He's got bigger fish to fry.

Words Matter

Friends, tonight I'm flabbergasted, and more than a little frightened.  That's because our president today accused Russia of committing "genocide" in Ukraine.  He did so offhandedly, clumsily, and inarticulately, of course, but he did it all the same.  Not for the first time, he has thus thrust himself way out in front of his own administration, which has NOT accused Russia of genocide, perhaps because a) Russia isn't guilty of genocide in Ukraine, and b) charging a country with genocide has traditionally involved an assumption that, in such a case, direct intervention is warranted and is, in fact, a moral imperative.  Why do I say a) Russia isn't guilty of genocide?  Simple: Russia has killed thousands of civilians in Ukraine, yes, and it may well have committed war crimes, but that just isn't the same thing as "genocide".  Genocide is the attempt to wipe out an entire ethnic group, and, frankly, if what's taking place in Ukraine is "genocide", then most of the wars that have been fought since 1945 were "genocide" -- and, arguably, the United States has committed genocide itself.  Of course, that notion is absurd.  Genocide is the most extreme, most debased, most barbaric crime that any nation can commit, and the ONLY reason the word is being bandied about by Ukraine, and, now, by the U.S. president, is because of its propaganda effect.  Not that facts matter to Joe Biden, but, as a matter of fact, there is a much stronger case to be made that China is guilty of genocide than that Russia is.  Remember China?  The country that, by its negligence and dishonesty, has killed 1+ million Americans?  The country that is killing and enslaving legions of Uighurs?  Oh yeah: it's also the country that paid for Sleepy Joe's last bathroom remodel.  So hey -- forget I said anything.  All is forgiven.  But a) isn't really the biggest concern here.  It's b) that has me much more worried.  That's because, when a nation is committing genocide, a VERY strong argument can be made that all major powers are obligated to intervene to stop it.  If Russia really was massacring the Ukrainians en masse, and appeared to be working towards wiping them off the face of the earth, does anyone believe that the proper response to that horror would be...economic sanctions and modest military aid to the soon-to-be-obliterated?  No!  Of course not.  Genocide calls for direct military action.  Genocide calls for war.  And, remember, this man, this buffoon, who is calling out the world's foremost nuclear power for "genocide" is himself the so-called leader of the free world.  He's the one who controls our own "nuclear football".  He's the guy who can start WWIII any old time he likes.  Biden's lack of messaging discipline is scary enough.  What's even scarier is that he may believe his own nonsense, and he may want to do something about it.  And he can.  He can attack Russia directly whenever he pleases.  And -- to be completely honest -- I wouldn't be shocked if he did order U.S. military forces into the fray...with consequences that I prefer not to think about!  He might do so casually, absentmindedly, thoughtlessly, because that seems to be his M.O., but, once the trigger is pulled, it can't be unpulled.  So there you go: if you thought the world was on the brink before, Sleepy Joe just made the situation that much worse.  Hey, that's his specialty!  And we've got three more years of this madness in store, folks.  Yikes!

In other news, today a bird pooped on Biden.  Thankfully, though, he didn't accuse the avian kingdom of genocide.

America's Reddest Days Lie Ahead?

Friends, a bit of good cheer for you this Monday: while we may never recover the halcyon days of Dick Nixon's 49-state landslide victory in 1972, there's reason to think the Republicans may win control of the House and the Senate in just a few months -- and, in the Senate, the political landscape for 2024 may be even more promising than in 2022.  Based on this analysis, even if the Republican candidate for president in 2024 struggles, the GOP may further extend its (expected) majority in the Senate.  I sincerely hope it's true!

Hold Your Horses, Diversity Commissar Newsom!

Friends, my latest article concentrates on two significant legal victories in California courtrooms for the principle of non-discrimination.  The California "diversity, equity, and inclusion" gang is seeing red!!!  That's good news, but they won't quit that easily.  Expect a lot more pressure to ramp up reverse discrimination in the years ahead.

Discriminate, Or Else!

Two recent victories for the principles of non-racialism and equal treatment – in California courtrooms, no less – are warming the hearts of conservatives, and the vast majority of Americans who believe in fairness and the goal of a colorblind society. These victories, however, cannot obscure the fact that, increasingly, for the Left, discrimination is no longer the enemy. It is, in fact, a moral imperative, and more and more progressives believe that only (reverse) discrimination can cure “systemic racism” in our country, and that those who refuse to discriminate should be ground underfoot.

On March 30th, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge H. Jay Ford III ruled that UCLA accounting professor George Klein could proceed with a lawsuit against the university, which had suspended and denounced him for refusing to grant black students special accommodations in his classes in the wake of the death of George Floyd in May 2020. Klein argued that, legally and ethically, it would be wrong to single out students of a certain race for differential treatment, and, in any case, a student's skin color, in itself, would not necessarily determine the degree of trauma they experienced due to Floyd's death and the subsequent unrest. UCLA had asked that the suit be dismissed, but Judge Ford decided instead that Klein had provided sufficient evidence to support his claims. Klein asserts that his suspension was wrongful and that his reputation and private business interests were harmed.

On April 1st, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Terry Green struck down that state's so-called corporate diversity law, which mandated that corporations based in the Golden State had to include on their corporate boards a specified percentage of people from “underrepresented communities”, including people of color and those who identify as LGBT. Hefty fines were prescribed for corporations in violation of the law. Although Judge Green's ruling was short on specifics, he suggested that “mandating” quotas for the “underrepresented” was a bridge too far.

Taken together, these victories in Los Angeles County courtrooms indicate that, even in the People's Republic of California, where the catechism of wokeness is deeply entrenched in the political and legal fabric of society, judges sometimes have the courage to stand against fashionable forms of discrimination. This is tremendously encouraging and may indicate that leftists will find it difficult to ignore the clear language of local, state, and federal laws, which in almost all cases prohibit differential treatment based on race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Much as progressives would like to carve out exceptions for discrimination practiced by “the good guys”, i.e. them, our legal system recognizes no such distinctions – and, hopefully, when such distinctions are inserted into the law by leftist legislators, they will fall afoul of other, more fundamental legal and constitutional principles, like equal treatment. With any luck, in fact, the Supreme Court will soon find all racial and sex- and gender-based preferences unconstitutional, putting an end to this debate once and for all.

Legal victories, however, no matter how high up the judicial food chain they may extend, will not alter the fact that, morally and culturally, discrimination has already been normalized, even valorized, for a significant portion of the U.S. population – namely, for virtually anyone and everyone who calls himself or herself a Democrat or a progressive. The (re)popularization of discrimination as a tool to promote positive social change and the “equitable” redistribution of society's rewards is an extremely disturbing trend, and one which legal sanctions alone will not succeed in stamping out.

What should be done? Among other measures, conservatives must resolutely refuse to play the woke game of measuring social progress and “equity” by mathematical means, and of pretending that the achievement of greater representation for people of color, women, and members of the LGBT community in itself makes our institutions, or our country as a whole, better.

On the contrary, only the fostering of an ethic of non-discrimination, and a consistent commitment to judge each and every American according to his or her individual merits, as most Americans clearly prefer, will allow us to fulfill the promise of America for everyone, while at the same time avoiding the acrimony and mistrust that are the bitter fruit of identity politics.

To quote Chief Justice John Roberts, “The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.” It's about time that we lived up to our ideals as a nation and followed this excellent advice.

In other news, it looks like Russia is preparing to unleash a major offensive in eastern Ukraine, but exactly where and with what goals in mind is unclear.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-61023869

My main man Pat Buchanan is sounding alarm bells about a predicted multi-year conflict in Ukraine, which doesn't seem to faze the anti-Russia hawks in the West, but would be devastating to the Ukrainian and Russian peoples -- and could ultimately bring about a second Cold War, or even a hot war in Eastern Europe.

Believe it or not, there are actually people in the West willing to demonstrate in the streets in favor of Russia and Putin.  What's even more incredible is that they are allowed to do so in Germany, which doesn't cherish free speech nearly as much as we do in the USA.

The pressure to conform to leftist ideology, and to virtue-signal 24/7, is intense, especially for those who move in well-educated, well-heeled circles.  Apparently this pressure is even infiltrating the practice of psychotherapy.  Egads!

There's a case to be made that the FBI ginned up the supposed kidnapping/murder plot against Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer in October 2020 with the intention of affecting the outcome of the presidential election.  There's also a case to be made that there never was such a plot.  Incroyable, you say?  Well, timing is everything, and we all know that, for the lefties, preventing the reelection of DJT was a sacred trust...

Finally, don't think for a second that radicals on the Left have given up on their goal of cleansing American democracy -- legally and officially -- of those who espouse "insurrectionist" views.  It remains to be seen whether the federal courts will nip these efforts in the bud, as they should.

The Sun Never Sets on Ukraine

Friends, just days ago Russian forces were firmly entrenched in Kiev's suburbs.  Now those forces are gone, and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is taking their place.  He's paid a surprise visit to the Ukrainian capital, promising even more military aid.  The good news, from a Western perspective: Ukraine is achieving unexpected success against Putin's armies.  The bad news: Ukraine's finances are underwritten by the West, and Ukraine's military has been armed by the West.  Ergo, Russians (among others) will see the Ukrainians as proxies for the West, and, if their string of battlefield successes ever comes to a halt, the West will suffer a black eye, at the very least.  Of course, the Ukrainians will suffer a lot more than that.

What is the $64,000 question in American domestic politics?  Simple!  It's whether Joe Biden's involvement in the corruption of his son Hunter can be proven, either in the public eye or in the eye of the law.  Hunter's laptop contains clues, but it doesn't, as far as we know, contain irrefutable evidence.  And where might that evidence be, and is anyone in authority looking for it, or are they striving desperately NOT to find it?  Ah, those are good questions too...

Can a college professor be suspended and pilloried for refusing to discriminate on the basis of race?  Oh, you bet he can, especially in the People's Republic of California!  I feel safe in predicting that similar pressures will be brought to bear on most educators, and they probably won't have long to wait.

Dead Man Walking (and an Even Deader Woman)

Friends, let's be clear: the title of this post refers to political death, which is similar to physical death, but much, much more serious!  As the article below makes plain, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is doubling down on his RINO worldview by donating to the reelection campaign of alleged Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney, who has distinguished herself as a critic of Donald Trump and everyone who supports him.  McConnell's pro-Cheney position is odd, because it's bound to cause friction between McConnell and, well, the vast majority of the members of his own party.  It's also an exercise in futility, since anyone with half a brain can see that Liz Cheney hasn't a prayer of winning a Republican primary in her state.  What's her backup plan?  Maybe run for the House anyway as an independent?  That wouldn't surprise me.  And how will Mitch's donations to Liz look then?  Even dumber than they look now.  My advice to Mitch, therefore, is: stop while you're ahead!  Right now, if you behave yourself, you might just get the chance to serve as Majority Leader once more.  On the other hand, you're already the least popular major political figure in America, so...maybe stop going out of your way to make the problem worse?  Just a thought.

To Tweet Or Not To Tweet (That Is The Question)

Friends, this week's Newsmaker Show will knock your proverbial socks off.  Brian and I consider Elon Musk's shocking move to take over (?) Twitter, and whether the tech billionaire can salvage the company's tarnished brand.  We also discuss the twists and turns in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the role of tactical nuclear weapons in modern war, the deteriorating situation at the U.S.-Mexico border, whether or not the "Biden crime family" now finds itself in serious legal/political jeopardy, and the significance of Viktor Orban's big win in Hungary.

It's a humdinger of a radio show, folks -- one not to be missed!

In other news, I've said for a while that we ought to be focusing our attention on China as a strategic rival and as a rising, adversarial superpower.  Instead, we're cultivating a neo-Cold War with Russia, which poses little long-term threat to us.  That said, check out this article, which confirms that China is rapidly expanding its nuclear arsenal.  Now, who do you think the Chinese might contemplate nuking?  YOU -- that's who!!!

What does DNC Chairman Jamie Harrison think of Senator Tom Cotton, and of the Republican Party as a whole?  He isn't shy about sharing his POV!  The name-calling and the attempts to delegitimize the GOP as the opposition party are kicking into high gear right now, and presumably that's partly a reflection of the Dems' desperation as they confront the prospect of historic losses this fall.  It's also a sign of the absolute contempt in which they hold those who dare to disagree with them, and I would hasten to add that the fidelity of people who think like this to the democratic process cannot be assumed.

Viktor Victorious

Friends, today we announce a great big WaddyIsRight Hip-Hip-Hooray for Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary, a darling of conservatives everywhere.  His right-wing party just got elected to a fourth term in office, despite fierce Euro-criticism of his nationalist, populist approach to governance.  Orban has dared to oppose unchecked migration into the EU, and he has defied the anti-Russian orthodoxy that's currently sweeping the Western world, specifically, by declaring his country adamantly neutral in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.  What is perhaps even more impressive is the fact that his conservative movement has obtained effective control over most of the media and of other major institutions in Hungary.  Can you imagine if Trumpers were to dominate the news media, the education system, and the bureaucracy here?  Man, there would be no limit to what we could accomplish...  So thanks, Viktor, for showing conservatives that it can be done!

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/hungarians-vote-orbans-12-year-rule-tight-ballot-overshadowed-by-ukraine-war-2022-04-03/

In other news, it looks like the slight advantage in Congressional redistricting that the Dems accumulated in recent months may be in jeopardy, but don't kid yourself: all the gerrymandering in the world can't save the Democrats from the atrocious poll numbers they're currently facing.

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2022/04/04/house_gop_poised_for_late_redistricting_rebound___147423.html

Women are oppressed.  Women are disadvantaged.  Women are angry.  Women are destined to rule the world.  But who are these "women", and how is the term "woman" defined?  The Left would rather not say.  A "woman" is...well, they know one when they see one.  There's supreme irony in the fact that the categories that the Left claims define our identities and our positions in the social order are also incredibly slippery and even imponderable in objective scientific or legal terms, as least according to the "smartest people in the room".  And why not?  Keeping the definitions vague allows the Left to alter their positions on the fly, as their agenda demands, and it makes it awfully hard to mount a coherent opposition to their "transformational" program of action.  Sloppy thinking is allowed, when you're a "progressive", since your inherent rightness can simply be assumed...

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-agencies-define-woman

No one in D.C. wants to confront the issue -- that's for darn sure -- but sooner or later major changes to Social Security and Medicare will be necessary.  Either taxes will need to go up, or benefits will need to be curtailed -- or both at once.  Understandably, though, neither party wants to take the bull by the horns and fix these fiscal problems now.  No, let's hit the wall first and then act reactively and in a state of abject desperation.  That's always more prudent!

 https://www.cnbc.com/2022/04/03/social-security-retirement-age-reaches-67-some-say-it-may-go-higher.html

Finally, Elon Musk, rich guy and noted free speech advocate, has quietly become the biggest shareholder in Twitter.  Could this mean that Musk is planning a hostile takeover -- one that will force the social media giant to cease and desist from its policies of censorship and deplatforming?  Or might it mean that Musk will ultimately create his own platform instead?  Or does it mean neither of these things, but only that Musk has way more money than he knows what to do with, and it all has to go...somewhere?  Stay tuned!  On the answer to this question could hinge the future of your rights as an American.  No joke.

Who Occupies the Smoke-Filled Rooms?

Friends, there are a series of positive developments to celebrate this Sunday.  For one thing, a judge in California has struck down that state's 2020 law that requires corporate boards to institute quotas for members of "underrepresented communities".  Hear hear!  It's true that such boards are not representative of the U.S. population as a whole.  It's also true, however, that we all have the natural and legal right to be judged based on our individual merits and abilities, and quotas are simply wrong-headed and unjust.  Aggressive race preferences are becoming more common, though, and the Left is doing everything it can to normalize them.  We need state and federal judges to push back, and first and foremost that means that SCOTUS needs to find all race preferences unconstitutional, once and for all!

https://thepostmillennial.com/california-corporate-diversity-law-ruled-unconstitutional?utm_campaign=64487

Today we can also applaud the fact that a federal Court of Appeals has upheld a verdict in Ohio that will force Oberlin College to pay a bakery that it falsely and irresponsibly maligned as racist approximately $31 million.  Now, lefties call anyone and everyone racist, as everyone knows, so why are there consequences in this one, unique case?  That's exactly what conservatives and decent Americans need to study and reflect on, because in the long run the only thing that will prevent Dems and neo-Marxists from hurling charges of racism, sexism, and homophobia in every direction is legal/financial consequences.  And this is, moreover, a critically important arrow in our quiver if we are to have any hope at all of disciplining the mainstream media and forcing it to abandon woke yellow journalism.  So thank you, Gibson's Bakery, for showing the rest of us how it's done!

How do Americans feel about Florida's "Don't Say Gay" Bill?  Well, that all depends on how the bill is spun and framed.  The bill doesn't, in fact, prohibit discussion of homosexuality at any age, although it does forbid "classroom instruction" about "sexual orientation or gender identity" in grades K-3.  And, when Americans are told about the language in the bill itself, they strongly endorse it!  That just goes to show you: perspective is everything.

COVID has retreated as a public health threat, and somewhat less so as a preoccupation of the news media.  In any case, facts matter, and the fact is that we have fewer hospitalizations for COVID now than at any time since March 2020.  Is this miracle the result of the vaccines, or was it the disease itself, which mutated into something a lot less dangerous?  You decide...

The Escalation Game

Friends, there's news aplenty today!  The Ukrainians have struck their first target inside Russia: an oil facility in the city of Belgorod.  The Russians call this an unhelpful development for Russia-Ukraine peace talks.  No kidding!  You would think that Russia would retaliate, and it's struck me that, since this war began, the Russians have shown no great interest in attacking many infrastructural targets in Ukraine, including the power gird.  Will they start now?

https://www.newsmax.com/headline/ukraine-russia-fuel-depot/2022/04/01/id/1063878/

President Zelensky has fired two top generals, calling them "traitors".  Now, if this had occurred in Russia, the media would be salivating over it.  Does it signify real divisions within the Ukrainian leadership?  We'll have to wait and see.  Ukraine will have some hard decisions ahead of it in the coming weeks.  That will test their mettle.

https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/zelenskyy-fires-generals-traitors/2022/04/01/id/1063888/

This poll claims that President Putin's approval ratings are up since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war -- way up.  Do we believe the poll?  Getting an accurate sense of public opinion in a "closed society" is never easy, but then neither is gauging the mood of the public while it's being bombed and shelled.  If you want to know what the Russian and Ukrainian people think of their leaders, my advice is to wait a few years and let the dust settle.

https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/vladimir-putin-russia-invasion-approval-ratings/2022/03/31/id/1063784/

In non-Russia-Ukraine news, it seems certain that the border crisis, which is already weighing on Biden and the Dems, is going to get worse.  Why can't lefties get it through their thick skulls that, when you make it easier to migrate "irregularly" (what used to be called "illegally"), you get more migrants!  Or maybe they understand this perfectly well and they just don't care?

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is arguing that Disney's special legal privileges should be withdrawn.  Now, I don't condone the persecution of any individual or company because of their (obscene) political views, but on the other hand DeSantis makes a superb point that companies shouldn't be singled out and placed "above the law" in the first place...

Remember the bombshell story about the seven-hour gap in the Trump White House's phone records, which proves (by omission) that Trump planned the insurrection from the start!  Well, it was all nonsense, and the phone records from January 6th are not unusual in the least.  Gee, color me shocked.

Could Jen Psaki be headed to MSNBC?  WHAT???  Don't tell me there's a special relationship between the White House and the mainstream media...  I never would have guessed!

Remember when the Rod Squad was assuring us that the bad poll numbers for Biden and the Dems were just a passing fancy, and that, by late 2022, the Dems' magnificent spending programs and their heroic triumph over COVID would have righted the ship?  On the contrary, the trendlines are getting worse and worse.  I am supremely confident that the GOP will excel in 2022.

There are all kinds of signals that consumers are getting wobbly in the face of soaring inflationary pressures, not to mention our dalliance with World War III.  A point of vulnerability could be the housing market, which almost everyone agrees stopped making sense a long time ago.

We all know that one of the defining characteristics of the modern leftist is that he/she/it loves to take pleasure in the pain of those who dare to think differently.  A case in point:

Finally, we here at WaddyIsRight have a love-hate relationship with Lindsey Graham, who looks brilliant or loony, depending on the day.  He's opposing the confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, though, which puts him, today at least, on the right side of history.
