Friends, the warped image of America beheld by liberals and Democrats is becoming increasingly, glaringly apparent, especially as we approach our nation's 250th birthday. You'd think it would be a time to reflect on all that America, and Americans, have accomplished, and the blessings we enjoy simply because we were born here, or were lucky enough to move here. Nope. Not for the lefties. For them, this country stinks. At best, it's...average. Now, you might ask yourself: if that's so, why live here??? Best not to overthink it, of course. The dystopian fantasies of the Left don't have to make sense to thrive. That's the beauty of never leaving your thought bubble!
In other news, the Supreme Court handed down a bunch of decisions today, some of them deeply disappointing to DJT, and at least one of them highly comforting to an imperial president. Oh well. Those are the breaks. You can never count on ole SCOTUS 100% of the time.

Finally, my main man J.D. Vance appeared recently at the Nixon Presidential Library (or, as I refer to it, Mecca), where he opined that Richard M. Nixon was an early victim of the "Deep State". Well, naturally, he's right. Some very powerful and sinister forces conspired to undermine Nixon's extremely popular presidency. Remember, he absolutely crushed George McGovern in '72. No doubt that put the fear of God into the Dems, and they decided to kneecap Tricky Dick so that he wouldn't leave them totally in the dust. And, boy, did it work! Of course, this doesn't mean that the charges against Nixon were entirely false, or that he was blameless -- but those charges were manipulated and weaponized in a very specific, and highly innovative, way. The Left has been trying to repeat the performance ever since.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: I think only in a country graced with the nearly fantastic well being , freedom and leisure we uniquely enjoy could a powerful movement which fanatically strives to force "fundamental transformation ', on the detested Marxist model, have any power. These dreamers have way too much time, too much inexperience of hard times and too much doctrinal arrogance. The America haters are perfectionists, unwilling to judge their very country by the only workable standard for any country: ON BALANCE. And just as personal perfectionism can be a a seriously destructive mental and emotion condition, so does their radicalism bode for our country. It has already done terrible damage , wrought counterintuitive and catastrophic change and shown unrelenting determination to persist in a cause which can never be fulfilled to their neurotic satisfaction. Such irrational and savage reasoning as was used to justify the quest for "lebensraum" is of a kind with the convictions of "American" Marxists ; their being Marxists , history proves them capable of limitless evil should they manage to gull our country into accepting their "justice".

ReplyDeleteIn one of the two great climactic scenes in Shakespeare"s Henry IV pt. 2, the newly ascended Henry V craftily publicly confronts "my Lord Chief Justice " for prosecuting the law nonabiding "adventurous" Prince Hal he was.The Chief Justice calmly declares his willingness to do the same to any malefactor , no matter his high birth. Henry replies ;you are right my Lord . . . and may I live to say as my father did: "happy am I to have a man so true that he would mew up my very son ".
Maybe we would do well to see this Scotus in a similar light. We can appropriately disagree with their reasoning at times but we should recognize the high principle and justice their majority shows in upholding our rule of law. I was glad to hear a first hand account of the basilisk gaze Justice Sotomayor malevolently fixed on Chief Justice Roberts when the decision on Presidential power to fire heads of independent Executive agencies was announced. The fact that it was tempered by the lawful judicial discretion of not approving the firing of the particular person at he heart of the case was apparently lost on the incipiently totalitarian mind of Justice Sotomayor.
Dr. Wady from Jack: Several important Scotus decisions are now in hand: we had some setbacks and some wins but I still retain the sanguine opinion I expressed above on this Scotus.
ReplyDeleteI cursorially scanned the decision on Birthright Citizenship and some of the diissents. My opinion then is that of a nearly rank amateur. It appears that the majority believes it saw "scant evidence for this dramatically revisionist view": that of the plaintiffs that the 14th amendment does not specifically provide for citizenship for children born of parents illegally present in the US .
One Justice opined that Congressional amendment of 8 USC 1401(a) , which codified the Birthright Citizenship part of the 14th Amendment,should be the first step in a needed process of mitigation of the cynical and disastrous misuse of this American generosity . Perhaps so, but one cannot legislate a change or addition to the Constitution . A Constitutional Amendment or a possible future Scotus ruling reconstruing the 14th Amendment (the latter a measure this Scotus declined to take and supported that with much case and common law) appear to me to be the only comprehensive remedies available now. That does not necessarily prevent the Administration from using other plausible legal authority to enforce differently constructed Executive order(s) to interfere with egregious practices such as an existing veritable industry of planned births to very temporarily present foreign parents in order to secure US citizenship for their babies.
True, Jack: little danger of a genuinely imperial presidency here. Indeed, it's SCOTUS itself that wields unlimited, imperial power, and that's in many ways problematic...although the alternatives may be even more so.
ReplyDeleteYes, the birthright citizenship decision is a bummer, BUT it underlines the necessity of evicting all illegal immigrants from this country AND preventing any new ones from coming here. That's a different way to solve the problem, and DJT is on it!

I use this vile boxing metaphor because it expresses the disdain the radical misuse of sometimes originally well intended legislative, societal and legal reforms deserves. I have not read the majority opinion but I hope it manifests the impatience our lawful Scotus no doubt has for presumptuous radical overreach into fantastic and unprofessional applications of law which indicate cavalier disregard for our legal verities.
Oh yes, the far left has, in making a major issue out of a previously esoteric social phenomenon - change of gender even for juveniles incapable of such life changing decisions - continued to arrogate cynical new connotation to the terms "equity" and "discrimination".To them the former is now unchallengeably righteous and the latter is thoroughly pejorative. And they would have these convenient convictions forced on us in disregard for common sense. In this decision our Scotus has said NO! And it may have cast a pall on others of such wrong headed far left adventurism.
Of course the immediate effect is to endorse the bans on shameful, unjust and ludicrous participation of males in women's sports enacted in common sense by some 20+ states already and to enable other states to do the same. Good!
Essential in the far left's determination to convert our legal system into a rubber stamp for their incipiently totalitarian ways is the assumption that their adoption and endorsement of bizarrely counterintuitive rules we must follow on pain of personal ruin, would be vital in fomenting the dysfunction, dissolution and hatred necessary to their destruction of our country.
Of course, should they achieve complete arbitrary and anecdotal control they would revive institutions like the law enforcement they defund but give it the mission of forcing compliance with their every whim. And they might even go puritan, as have so many commie regimes ,on the limitless sexual license they now demand we respect. And ala Lenin, Mao and Pol Pot they would do so summarily and savagely.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: The "American" far left has one unwaveringly prime purpose, to which all it does is subordinate: that is to force Marxist totalitarianism on our country. ReplyDeleteMany who wish to see illegal immigrants have free entry and be able to stay, even in contradiction of our present Immigration Law , do so out of a wish to see people delivered from poverty and oppression. But the DSA wanted this ruling so that the illegals already here might propagate here increase their number manifold . And of course they are doing their unlawful best , "by any means necessary", to prevent the deportation of those here. They see the projected combined mass of illegals and their US born children as an obligated perhaps decisive advantage in their ever determination to force "fundamental transformation" on an "ignorant" and "unjust" America. We will see, at their earliest advantage, a concerted DSA campaign to give iillegals the "right" to vote; increasingly assertive DSA strategists have no other interest than that in these unfortunates. The DSA controllers of pathetic Biden were blithely willing to expose these desperate people to the possibility that a new President might not tolerate their flouting of our democratically established Immigration Law. Coming from places where the law is a cynical mockery of justice, many of the illegals had only fleeting understanding of their violation of our well founded laws. The DSA has been all too willing to keep them that way.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: I completely agree with your regard for JD. I'm looking forward to seeing him debate some frantically emotional dem, be they thoroughly DSA or establishment. It would be a lot of fun to watch him play volcanic Cory Booker. That guy visibly seethes with suppressed and frustrated "righteousness". JD' s formidable calmness and dialectical skill would have any typically haughty Dem in spasms of dismissiveness. They would quickly exhaust their ready lexicon of reflexive personally condemning "isms" after they failed to faze deftly logical JD. The only Dem who could give him a good contest at the podium would be Fetterman.

I'm glad for President Nixon's family that favorable opinion of him continues to advance. He was a tragic figure and his deposition was a low point in our country's radical boomer generated post Vietnam dysfunction.
One of the most loathesome images from that time was that of a scraggly youth dancing outside the White House fence at the news of NIxon's departure. His ilk were but the latest of the jackals who sought Nixon's hide since Nixon courageously and presciently took on the commies starting in '48. The limousine liberals always detested him for his undeniable ,unfashionable staid middle class demeanor. I believe In his book The Making of the President 1960 , the reporter Theodore White described the looks of bemused contempt on JFK and his Ivy League idealist cadre at viewing the telecast of NIxon's concession.
The castigation he had to face and his gutsy comeback despite the withering public humiliation it subjected him to was the most astonishing I've seen until that of DJT manifested, again for his presumptuousness in daring to enter our polity's highest stakes.
Oh they got Nixon alright, yeah they did. In the process they began Journalism's continuing descent into professional disceditation. The look of intense pain on the face of long suffering Pat Nixon was part of the slavering pack's "reward". But despite almost dying shortly after his resignation , Nixon did finally enjoy a considerable degree of elder statesmanship. Some day our nation ought to do him the honor of naming an aircraft carrier after him. He was a resolute Cold Warrior.
Jack, while I find SCOTUS's decision on birthright citizenship politically and ethically unfortunate, I understand it legally and constitutionally. Not every part of our constitution makes sense in modern times, as the leftists would be the first to observe, and this is one of them. Of course, the chances of changing this part of the constitution are slim to none. In my view, though, birthright citizenship hardly matters as long as we control who enters this country, and why. Thanks to President Trump, we're getting closer to that goal every day.
ReplyDeleteI too look forward to the sight of J.D. Vance on the debate stage in 2028! He'll do us proud. It boggles my mind why so many lefties believe him to be "dumb". Their grip on reality is tenuous, at best. Now, I suspect there aren't plenty of Dems who could hold their own on the same stage, but any Republican who can fight his opponent to a draw in a debate can usually prevail in a general election, and J.D. is, I think, such a man, and more!
That's a nice thought that we could name a carrier after Nixon. Quite right! It's long overdue. You're correct: his contributions to our victory in the Cold War were mightily important. I know Ray doesn't care for his outreach to China, but that was, in the Cold War context, a masterstroke.
