Pain at the Pump

Friends, in case you haven't noticed, gas prices have edged a little higher than 28 cents a gallon lately.  Oh well.  That's the way of the world.  The problem is that the public is very sensitive to higher gas prices, and so are a lot of industries, like the airlines, for instance, which have no choice but to pass on their higher costs to consumers.  Long story short: higher energy prices are ALWAYS a problem for the incumbent administration -- in this case, for DJT and Friends.  To that end, Trump is warning Iran that its failure to come to an agreement with us (and reopen the Strait) will produce unspecified terrible consequences...  Oooooo!  That sounds serious.  Unfortunately, Trump has proven totally unwilling to resume major bombing operations in recent months.  What's more, he already threatened Iran with civilizational destruction...and then failed to follow through.  If civilizational destruction doesn't get Iran's attention (possibly because they think it's a bluff), then more harsh words probably won't accomplish much either.  As I've said before, Iran is indeed suffering from our past airtstrikes and even more so from the shuttering of its oil economy.  Iran does, therefore, have a "breaking point", but we don't know what that point is and how exactly to produce it.  My best guess is that it will take more bombing, and more economic calamity, to force the mullahs' hand.  We shall see.

  1. Dr. Waddy from Jack: At least we don't have to hear the name of the Saudi Oil Minister (Ahmed Zaki Yamani) every night on the local news along with the weather, rush hour traffic report and the Bills score. We were doing feudal homage to him in '73 - 74 to get our gas back. We " did but it was up to . . . 60 CENTS!. "Farewell forever the tranquil mind. . . ." But thanks to DJT we need not worry about our domestic sources of that gooey stuff.
