Friends, the dastardly Dems have outdone themselves! They've elevated a "democratic socialist" to be their candidate for Mayor of New York City. In other words, they've eschewed pragmatism for purity, as per usual. This bodes well insofar as the last thing we want is for the Democrats and leftists to solidify their grip on reality. No! We much prefer them to build castles in the air, and the airier, the better!

Speaking of flights of fancy, 79 Democrats in the House have voted to impeach President Trump for...daring to use the U.S. military against an enemy state: Iran! Of course, every single one of these Dems voted to impeach President Obama back when he took out Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan...without Congressional approval. I mean, anything less would be rank hypocrisy!!! What's that you say? Nary a Dem has ever called for the impeachment of a Democratic president, no matter how many bombs he dropped on foreign soil? Well! That does put things in a somewhat different light. In any case, note that 79 Democrats will apparently vote to impeach Donald J. Trump for literally ANYTHING, but that still leaves 128 Democrats who aren't quite so far gone. Maybe some of these Dems realize how futile efforts to impeach Trump are, or how they tend to strengthen Trump himself. Still, if the Dems take back control of the House next November, could they resist the urge to impeach Trump, Vance, Rubio, Bondi, and every Republican in sight? Let's hope they never get the chance.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: The BBC article describes Mandami as "strongly supportive of Palestinians and a critic of Israel. Ehh, supportive of which Palestinians is he and how intense a "critic" of Israel? Can it be that he is as dismissive of NYC's Jewish population as to think he can be elected despite alienating possibly many of them? Perhaps he thinks supporters of Israel to be a dismissable part of NYC's electorate? I think NYC Jews and those who admire and value Judaism are due some very strong concerns about this guy. He is buddy buddy with AOC and his support by the definitive "squad" member is not a good sign; the Squad is no friend of Israel or Jews. Also, we know that some "American" radical leftists "commiserate" with radical Islam. What kind of Muslim is he, pray? Just askin' mind you - you the crowd which excuses Islam from the castigation it directs at other Abrahamic religions.
ReplyDeleteHe is apparently a frank and unapologetic Socialist. Some of his stated intentions: free buses (how many and for whom?), government mandated rent and grocery price controls, which would guarantee widespread dysfunction . How is he on crime and criminals? There is a good reason why the far left is so popular with NY prison inmates. Did he support cashless bail and curtailment of solitary confinement as much as to make prison discipline impossible? Criminals are a presumptuous and impatient lot and since Mandami is a heavy favorite to be the next in a line of Mayors which contemptuously denies the good that Guiliani did NYC, (especially by insolently taking criminals to task), the thugs may be getting organized and ready for the carnival to come. Mandami is said to be a "defund the police movement" survivor ; all that much better for the lawless. And "much better" ,on top of the freedom NYC criminals now enjoy , would be incalculably worse for the discredited law abiding and law defending. Oh then there are all those NYC demonstrated campus radical antisemites , many of whom are voting age now. They may well be handy to him and the ilk he will empower.
I'm hoping NY's law abiding, common sense population will rise to Curtis Sliwa's support this time . If Mandami is half as bad as he looks I would not completely count Sliwa out. This city did vote for Guiliani.
His past record on the issues is probably going to be of much importance because he may seek to avoid troubling supporters of Israel and being tough on crime until he has the power to do so after the election. Far leftists in power have a troubling tendency to show their unsavory side once firmly esconsed.
This guy is 33 and will be 35 in time for 2028. Is he a rising star in the discombobulated Dem party?I share your hope that he is. America will have plenty of time to get to know him better. He says his main task will be to fight Pres. Trump at every turn. Oh that will endear him to an America which almost every day gets reason to celebrate our President's election.
Frank Sinatra once said while traveling through "his" NYC preGuiliani: "This town was a great lady , ONCE, . . . now. . . ?!" That's so again as NYC sinks unrelentingly into almost unprecedented degradation and shame.
Sorry, Mamdani it is. Jack
ReplyDelete"His past record. . . . Mamdani that is . We know Curtis already. Jack
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy from Jack: Oh yes and BTW, news today said Pres. Trump got all the NATO country leaders ,in person at the Hague , to agree to up their military expenditures from an average of 2% of GDP (?) to 5% over several years. Even if they don't all follow through, this is extraordinary! DJT has become a formidable international negotiator , even though his prePresidential experience was not in international relations (or politics for that matter). He has shown an unapologetic willingness to work America's justly derived and exercised power and deserved prestige, with the good will we have shown even after forcefully defeating our enemies.
ReplyDeleteOne commentator remarked that Pres. Trump had been laughed about in European circles when he made a similar proposition to NATO in his first term. They aren't laughing now.
I think this increased spending cannot help but strengthen NATO very much even beyond the addition of the hard fighting Swedes and Finns. That, I think, gives our President a strong position from which to persuade those European powers which might continue to support Ukraine on their own, that the time for this is over. NATO is very , very much stronger than Russia; Russia cannot help but know that. It will never attack NATO for any reason other than the, to Russia, unendurable threat and affront of inclusion of Ukraine in an alliance obviously meant to counter Russia.
NATO, more than ever now, after this unified resolve to spend more on defense, does not need Ukraine!. We may be able to end this war by simply telling Russia that the U.S. will not vote for Ukraine's inclusion in NATO and thereby negating Russia's reason for invading Ukraine in the first place. This can be followed by a neo Marshall Plan for the peaceful rebuilding of Ukraine, which NATO owes Ukraine for having recklessly encouraged them to present Russia with such an offense.
Should this transpire it would accrue to the credit of our rapidly becoming great President. He has already brought about the prolonged ore deal with Ukraine which would give Russia pause in ever again invading, once it was free of the NATO/Ukraine threat. Even Stalin dared not interfere with the original Marshall Plan as it stopped the Soviet threat to Western Europe.
Our President MAY already have brought peace to the MIddle East. And even as exhaustively involved with that as he is, MAY have set the conditions which can advance peace between Russia and Ukraine. This guy is something else and we may be living through a halcyon era in U.S, history.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: I think it was inevitable and predictable that the rapidly becoming heretofore MSM would do its best to disparage and discredit Pres. Trump's and our dutiful pilots' brilliant attack on Iran's nuclear factories. It appears that the balance of up to now expressed intelligence on the results of the raid is that we achieved catastrophic damage. Naturally that is a truth our shamefully degraded, obsequiously far left indulgent , as usual antiAmerican ,traditional MSM, is loath to affirm. Given any slightly creditable
ReplyDeletepretext, as originating in a faction of compromised lower rank intelligence Trump hating mavericks , they just go with it. Used to work just fine it did! Not now!
Dr. Waddy from Jack: I expect the dems will continue in their long time resolve to use "ANY means necessary". Should they retake the House why they would reflexively turn to good old impeachment and of a veritable stable of officials who irk them. Failing to take the House they will no doubt come up with increasingly creative and desperate forms of lawfare, bureaucracyfare, mediafare , liefare anarchyfare, etcfare. They have known for a long time that they will have to bring to bring the country to the point where a coup is possible, in order to institutionalize their marxist dreams.
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy from Jack: If none of the above works and they bring themselves to the point of political powerlessness which could be in the offing for them, the diehards would go underground, as they did after '72 (think Symbionese Liberation Army). No more "gradualness"; fifty + years is "pretty gradual". Those less adventurous Dems would repair sullenly to their intensely blue states oases, like NY and Kalifornia, as America builds barriers around them as does the oyster in dealing with irritants.
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy from Jack: Usually I reflexively skip any article bearing AP's byline. That once venerated institution has disgraced itself beyond measure with its surrender to the far left. But I did skim an AP article on NYC's prospective redeemer, Momdani, today seeking barely plausible facts alone.
ReplyDeleteHis record is beginning to speak for him: he is apparently blithe to exercise the privilege of directing what the far left reserves for its use as automatic condemnations, " self evident" , comprehensive and dismissive. He is quoted that the NYC Police Dept. is "racist, anti-queer and a major threat to public safety". Oh my! But which of the 10001 definitions so far used for "racist" by the far left was he expectorating. I'm hopelessly confused as to his specific charge although its reflexively pejorative nature is clear.
He has called Israel's defense of its life in Gaza "genocide" . I can just imagine the Oct. 7 monsters requiring of their victims proven Jewish identification before setting them on fire. Why, they probably just assumed that their victims were members of a group proscribed by Hamas doctrine unto instant death. Well yeah, THAT was murder of humans for ostensibly daring to be so . . . and Momdani appears to like it. headed!
Oh, and he "defended the phrase 'globalize the Intifada' " Sure, lets wipe out Jews and Judaism wherever they raise their yarmulked heads.
All of the above statements were at some recent and convenient time temporized and grudgingly softened by the candidate. No doubt that tactic will persist through his regrettably important campaign in our national life. That we should be so effected by what lala on the Hudson does is one of the drawbacks of democracy and a free press but we can make hay of it if he wins, but woe for NYC.
He is said to identify closely with the "Democratic Socialists of America" . That title is a non starter for common sense people. Might as well say "Vegetarian Wolves of the West". If you want to know what the DSA stands for, access their publication (title to follow) and read their statement of purpose. Marx and Lenin would approve but might even sue them for plagiarism.
In the article I read AP lamented the "weaponization" of Momdani's statements by GOP. The poor dears had to; they had gone way out on a limb to quote him and will probably be summoned before a "People's Court" for it.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: The publication of DSA is titled Democratic Left. Somehow I once read what I could stomach of a copy of it. Anyone knowing the murderous history of the far left in power knows how they usurped the title "Democratic" to advance and then cover for their execrable inhumanity. Its a measure of the contempt the DSA has for a finally redeemed common sense America that they would try to foist this detestable subterfuge on us.
ReplyDeleteLenin, Stalin , Mao, Pol Pot, were all once card carrying members of civilizations. The thought that our nation is home to some of their avatars is appalling.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: The NYC election will probably be unavoidably engaging.
ReplyDeleteIf ever arrogant Cuomo hangs in, he and Mayor Adams will compete for the "moderate dem" vote such as it is. Maybe, just maybe, Sliwa can drive a tank through the loophole they create. This is his best chance ever. Tough NYC people probably admire his persistence and his long time stand for the law abiding.
Cuomo will campaign as he always has, with smugness and preachiness. In office he would crack down on crime to enhance his national prospects though he is probably viscerally incapable of overly offending criminals. And he must take care not to be too enthusiastic or open about his national ambitions and what he would do in office to advance them. Adams is erratic and incompetent. NYC has become a criminal (both domestic and foreign)haven on his watch. He doesn't much know what to think much of the time. He could attract some crossover votes from GOP moderates who are jittery about Sliwa but his fecklessness in office should keep that number down.
Can these two take enough away from Momdani to give Sliwa a real chance? I'm sure there are plenty of common sense voters who will take the trouble this time to work and vote for Sliwa. They are understandably scared at the sure prospect of unprecedented dysfunction, danger and political extremism should Momdani prevail. Are they finally fed up and ready for another faithful and redeeming Mayor? Can they outpolitic Manhattan?
Sliwa is no moderate. If he is elected he will be a neo Guiliani, especially on crime.
I'm hoping Momdani and his supporters write off Curtis Sliwa out of reflexive contempt for him. Maybe, just maybe, he could ambush
Dr. Waddy from Jack: . . . the presumptuous Dems this time. Are Tough NYCers finally fed up? Can they outpolitic airy Manhattan?
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy from Jack: I'll bet there are scads of down to earth NYCers eager to thank Sliwa for his persistent support and advocacy of the law abiding.Maybe this time they can be convinced he can win.
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy from Jack: Friday, 6/27. What a day this has been, as if we haven't had many of the same recently.
ReplyDeleteThe "American" far left has sustained a staggering blow, a development which bids fair to impose on them an almost prohibitive barrier to further use of their main guerrilla tactic against the President who has merrily excited their vicious antipathy more than any other. And they received this surely terribly discouraging setback from an institution decisively composed of this insanely hated opponent's very appointees: our now belatedly lawful Supreme Court.
The far leftist subjugated dems have relied on an absurd and desperately presumptuous misuse of our Federal Judicial system's lowest and most subordinate level, the Federal District Courts, to soldier their fighting retreat against the actions of an exceedingly formidable President who has no use for their ever more discredited views and policies. Now that presumption is denied them. Why , President Trump had the guts to reform their longtime rubber stamp , Scotus, to their violent dislike, in his first term. Now, with Scotus's almost complete outlawing today of the nationwide injunctions enacted by cooperative Federal District Court judges sitting, well, anywhere, against our President's vital Executive Orders, he's "done" them again! The radicals' always insanely high strung psyches are finding this beyond devastating. Reportedly Scotus Justice Jackson said in her hyperbolic dissent from the majority position written by Justice Barrett (paraphrase) "Justice Barrett opposes an 'imperial judiciary' but is just fine with an 'imperial Presidency' ". (I didn't know that Scotus Justices disparaged their Scotus colleagues by name in written decisions) .
Dr. Waddy from Jack: I think it is inevitable and perhaps laudible that a Scotus which shows firm deference to the rule of law will sometimes produce decisions we conservatives don't like. But that very deference, which we share and our far left antitheses detest, is assurance that we will continue to have much to be thankful for in their majority's principled conduct .
ReplyDeleteThey showed why again today when they cleared the way for parents in a school district apparently determined to force some very controversial subjects on their children, to absent their children from the very graphic teaching of these subjects . A commentator today lamented that these parents were compelled to assert their heretofore almost universally embraced right to do this as far as Scotus. But its sometimes a sad necessity in a culture as terribly degraded by far left incipiently totalitarian fanatics, even in elementary school faculties and administrations, that the oh so presumptuous and disdainful woke and "enlightened " be brought up short, DECISIVELY!
Dr. Waddy from Jack: Sorry, I got the quote above backasswards. It was Justice Barrett who commented that Justice Jackson said (my paraphrase): "Justice Jackson opposes an "imperial Presidency but is fine with an imperial Judiciary. " Nonetheless Justice Jackson's dissent was overwrought in that she predicted that this decision would bring about Presidential power knowing no limits.
ReplyDeleteNow I didn't word it right; my bad. Jack
ReplyDeleteJack, you make a strong case that Mamdani would be a complete train wreck of a Mayor. In that case, maybe we should lend him our support, because the "obliteration" of NYC (or rather its descent into unmistakable social and economic dysfunction) would be a wonderful talking point for Republicans in '26 and '28.
ReplyDeleteJack, I don't take the Europeans' pledges to spend 5% of GDP on defense even remotely seriously, but the fact is that they've already boosted such outlays significantly (because of the Russia-Ukraine mess), and thus they almost certainly already have the ability to hold the Russian bear in check. My guess is that, by promising the moon in terms of defense spending, they hope to keep Trump minimally happy and avoid a definitive break between the US and NATO. So far, so good, from their perspective. Trump has been more bark than bite when it comes to reimagining the Western Alliance...much to my chagrin.
Jack, I would be thrilled to see Mayor Sliwa, but the polls say it's exceedingly unlikely. Mayor Cuomo is more in the realm of possibility. It's early days, though, and, as you say, there is a lot of ammunition that can be used against Mamdani. The institutional Dems can usually torpedo a leftist quite effectively if they feel like it. Just ask Bernie.
Jack, I share your great excitement about the boundless potential for positive change in a world without "universal injunctions". Time will tell just what a momentous development this is, but I'm optimistic. I really didn't think the Supremes had it in them. On the other hand, I expect the lefties to reach even deeper into their bag of tricks. A cornered, desperate leftist is not to be taken lightly!
Dr. Waddy from Jack: Good point about how the institutional dems took Bernie down. But in doing so they may have provoked a considerable reaction from the "even further left" faction. We'll see if these youngsters can work a coup. Its fun to watch purists squirm in this complicated old world.
ReplyDeleteHow will the far left resist the smackdown of their misuse of the Federal District Courts? "Let us count the ways. . . .". That they will do so is to be expected especially with their Young Turks feeling their "O"s just now.
Its likely they'll try to find an expeditious way to exploit the process of certifying class action suits in their characteristically "expansive" manner. That process is already challenging and they may seek to go it anyway in order to gum up the gears for a time. And then there are already some state courts to bustle in in some creative manner.
They trust that a compliant Scotus is in their future since America will surely tire of all this respect for the rule of law , So for now its an 1864 Confederate rear guard action to fight "by any means necessary". "And since we are in a second Civil War, why not revive nullification and 'states' rights' if not defacto secession!"
True, Jack, the courts still offer the Left plenty of ways to slow down Trumpism. We'll see how well and how often they exploit them. As I mentioned before, the main brake on DJT may now be SCOTUS itself, which of course is not to be taken lightly. And then there's public opinion, since Trump does need to keep almost all Republicans on side to make headway.
ReplyDeleteStates' rights and/or secession? I expect those calls to grow louder, but loud enough for any state to try it? Hmm.
We must also consider the possibility that if, say, California tried to secede, both sides of the spectrum might agree that it was a good idea and about time!
