Friends, remember when Karine Jean-Pierre was the face and voice of the Democratic Party/the Biden Administration? Maybe she wasn't very good at it, but she kinda/sorta sounded sincere when she told us that Biden was doing a great job and we should all vote blue as though our lives depended on it. Well, now that the fever dream of the Biden years has passed, Karine is having second thoughts. Not only is she ready to dish on the juicy secrets of Biden and Friends, but she's even (wait for it...) LEFT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY!!! Ouch! I mean, a party that can't even maintain the loyalty of its own spokesmen (and women) isn't a party that any reasonable person would want to support. But good for you, Karine! Here's hoping you find another party that suits you better. The CCP is always an option...
In other news, the race for Mayor of New York City is getting interesting, with former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo making a strong play (while he avoids talking to the press). America is, after all, the land of second chances. If a man charged with dozens of felonies, and convicted of quite a few, can be elected president, then why not a disgraced Me Too villain as mayor? I have mixed feelings myself. Cuomo was a disaster in terms of his policies, but he was and remains a "moderate" Democrat, at least compared to some of the leftist loons who are now in the mainstream of the party. The way the Dems ejected him from office also resembled the undemocratic coup that ousted Sleepy Joe. Would I vote for Mayor Andy? Heck, no! It would be kinda nice to let the people of New York City decide who gets to be mayor, though. There's a novel idea.
Finally, this fine article puts in perspective the "cuts" to Medicaid that you've heard so much about. The playbook is pretty well worn by now: the Dems, when they're in power, run up spending levels on everything as much as possible, and then, when Republicans take over, they don't actually cut anything, because to do so would risk making them look "mean-spirited". At the end of the day, the deficit just keeps growing inexorably, and no one in authority seems to care.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: I have to admit I've always somewhat admired Karine Jean - Pierre for her conduct as Press Secretary, that is with misgivings. I really like young professionals who enthusiastically get with the program. She looked professional and she did her job faithfully and gracefully. I don't like the untruths she presented but she did her job, which was to communicate what she was required to express.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind seeing her do a Tulsi Gabbard move if she's fed up with the dems. . I suppose its improbable; she had to have solid left credentials to get that job in the first place. Perhaps she did not consider the Biden administration adequately far left(?) But if she has become disenchanted with the far left captured dems she could be an asset to us.
Continuing close examination of the Biden administration is a very good thing. It may well reveal bad faith so intense and so extensive as to have amounted to malfeasance sufficient to permanently disqualify the presently constituted dem party from future office.
Anyway, her defection can't help the hapless dems. To some extent it may lessen the impact of Musk's departure
Dr. Waddy from Jack: You were right to qualify your description of Cuomo as a moderate. His enthusiastic support for criminals, expressed as always in the imperiously pedantic manner he shared with his father, has helped turn NYC into a free fire zone. And he demonstrated comprehensive contempt for the 2nd Amendment rights of the "just a vocal minnahritty" of common sense law abiding gun owners in his fief.
ReplyDeleteNYC might as well sink all the way into " the slough of despond" and make him Mayor. He may use it as a base from which to go after the nomination in 2028. Since he is probably unelectable nationally , that would help us. I mean, I'd love to see him try to get away with talking down to people in Texas.
I think should he seek that ultimate redemption he would venture a neo Guiliani crackdown on crime in NYC. "See, I can do humble!" "Want a common sense Democrat; here I am." He'd have to because the "me too" crowd would never support him; they have plenty of young far leftists in store.
Of course if elected President he would revert to "Prince Cuomo". And if he doesn't run, why NYC is a pretty good gig for the declining years of one of the most personally obnoxious "American" public figures ever.
Quite right, Jack: KJP is much more likely to go hard left than she is to flirt with Trumpism. So be it! Let the Left eat its own.
ReplyDeleteRunning for Mayor of NYC is one thing, but president? If anyone has the ego to try it, I suppose Andy's our guy. I must admit, I wouldn't have quite the confidence that you do that he would be unelectable nationally. He's a slippery character and undeniably smart. If a dolt like Kamala can almost win, any Democrat could be a potent threat, if the winds were blowing favorably.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: THe NYC mayoralty could be a viable base for a run for the nomination. Rudolph Guiliani made a strong try for awhile . Cuomo is apparently very sympathetic to criminals for the onerous plight their freely chosen behavior often puts them in. And he is plainly contemptuous of those who insolently maintain that the 2nd Amendment bars "impingement" of Americans' right to bear arms. Of course some well intended limitation manifests common sense and Scotus has confirmed this. But Cuomo's measures were plainly intended to discourage gun ownership and use by making it ever more bureaucraticly challenging and legally risky. That is not well intended.
ReplyDeleteViolent criminals are not discouraged; in fact they may well celebrate a perception that lawfull NYers are ever more hesitant to run the risk of using firearms to protect themselves because they fear their state government almost as much as they do thugs. NYC is a good example of the consequences of this injustice.
Cuomo will have to dispel the truthful public perception of his position on these matters to have any chance of advancing beyond NYC. If elected Mayor he'll have to play deceitful games to flim flam an America for which he has withering contempt. That means cracking down on crime ala Guiliani and becoming a gun rights advocate. He has long since proved himself as dishonest and amoral as to be capable of such misleading behavior. And of course he will portray himself to dems as just the person to restore common sense to their present baleful image.
Jack, you may well prove to be a soothsayer on these matters! It's conceivable that a Dem could be "tough on crime" and still a 2nd Amendment skeptic. I wonder how much leeway a mayor would have, though, given the "liberal" laws passed by our benighted state legislature on bail, etc. Maybe none of that matters, since Cuomo's move to the center would be more performative than substantive anyway. Count me as a Cuomo skeptic, in any case. I find it very hard to imagine that anyone could become president using NYC as a base. For most of the country, NYC is synonymous with elitism and zaniness. Of course, in the Age of Trump (and TDS), all things are possible.
