Failure to Launch

Friends, the mullahs invested vast resources in Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs, and the last two weeks, not to mention the last few hours, have told the tale on how wise this investment was.  Iran has no nukes, and, after the pounding its program has taken, probably never will.  It does have plenty of missiles, but very few of them reach the soil of their enemies unintercepted, and few if any hit their intended targets.  So, not only has WWIII been averted, contrary to the doomsaying of the Left and the Democrats, but Iran has been taught a valuable lesson regarding its own impotence and the futility of threatening Israel and the West.  The "12 Day War" appears to be over.  We'll have to wait and see whether these developments produce a genuine change in Iran's behavior, or if they destabilize the regime there in any serious way.  One thing is for sure: Iran is less powerful (and less reckless?) than many feared.

In other news, SCOTUS has bestirred itself to confirm that the President of the United States can, in fact, deport illegal immigrants.  Imagine that!  Thanks for throwing us a bone, Supremes...

  1. Dr. Waddy from Jack : Maybe this can give us some idea of what it was like to live through relatively recent historical events when we had some quickly and widely transmitted news. Eg. The last week of the war with Japan or WWII in Europe when France fell and it looked like Britain would too. I remember the Cuban Missile Crisis unfolding in nerve wracking fits and starts and we didn't know the half of it while it developed.

At this moment, there have been apparent violations of the astonishing sudden cease fire announced last night past the times announced for it to take effect. A commentator likened it to the 1918 armistice cease fire when much fighting took place right up to the 11th hour. President Trump expressed annoyance but shortly after announced that the cease fire "is in effect". Cause and effect maybe? We may well be living through a great Presidency!

What other surprises may be in store? Perhaps it was hard to believe at first that Japan had surrendered; then again the celebrations started promptly. And that was after 4 years and not 12 days.

Altogether though, everything appears to favor a very much changed for the better Middle East situation. THAT and its hazard of world war we HAVE lived with for years. Maybe , blessedly for Israel, and its region, "sunlit uplands" (Churchill) are at hand.

Looks like more than a few Christian denominations will be disappointed that Iran is backing down. The end of the world scenario for many, many churches in The United States (and I'm not talking about some quack cultic outfit, but the majority of Baptists for example), firmly believe that Iran and Russia will invade Israel. This is The Rapture followed by The Tribulation, and so on and so on.

No doubt in my mind that there are millions of Christians out there in The U.S. who are secretly not happy that things have settled down. You might want to check this out and draw your own conclusions. All Trump has really done is delayed The AntiChrist and Armageddon in the eyes of more than a few premillennial dispensationalists. Lots and lots of books out there written by lots and lots of respectable pastors in lots and lot of churches.

Recent news clips from two supposedly "reliable" sources (One America News, and Just The News), indicate that Trump is not happy with Iran or Israel over any cease fire violations. According to the same sources, Trump said he does not want regime change in Iran.
Did Trump really say this? Is this fake news? Is this misinformation or disinformation? So what are us "average Joes" out there in media land supposed to believe? Does Trump want a Noel Peace Prize? In other words, what the hell is going on!

The recent (2025) events (Iran-Israel), can also be considered a continuation of the April 2024 (that's right, 2024) Iranian attacks on Israel.

Just remember that Trump wants peace, and anyone who does not agree with this, will be destroyed. Or to paraphrase Orwell, "Peace is War, and War is Peace".

One of the opinions floated during the most recent Iran-Israel debacle, was a hoped for return of The late Shah's son to Iran. Don't recommend this regime. In many ways it was as nasty as the current regime, with SAVK ready to torture, kill, or imprison opponents. Need to do a rethink on this. Just a thought.

How ironic that ancient Persia (now Iran since 1935), is the very empire-country that once allowed the children of Israel to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the Temple.

  9. Dr. Waddy from Jack: I never thought I'd live through anything as astonishing as the fall of Soviet communism.

But if President Trump's America and PM Netanyahu's Israel have mortally wounded Iran's ability to spread, encourage, enact and enable the murderous atavistic antipathy toward Israel and Jews which it has championed for 46 years, then Saint John Paul, President Reagan and Lech Walesa will have close companions in the Pantheon of heroic humans.

Far too much of the world has shamefully and pusillanimously countenanced Israel's ordeal since 1948; eg. in the shameful U.N. And just as Poland did in the late '80s. , technologically, courageously and spiritually blessed Israel has risen to its own defense in stirring fashion. It is greatly to America's credit that we are standing by them.

At times the Middle East has seemed a hopeless place but the possible destruction of the black hole of unrelenting hate in its midst is a miracle and could be the source of the kind of unexpected hope and positivity which graced a world nearly freed of the curse of the equally hellish communism.

  10. Dr. Waddy from Jack: So, Prince Cuomo can do"humble". I don't understand NYC's primary system but it looks like the political career of this imperious and obnoxious man may be over.I'm glad I was wrong about him winning the NYC mayoralty and then running for President as a redeemed "moderate". Didn't think he would win nationally but it would be nice to see only little more of his gaping maw as it broadcasts his characteristic patronizing pedantry. But then, I wouldn't put it quite past him to run for the "dem" nomination anyway. There is of course his titanic ego at play. Why, in the movie The Last Hurrah, a fictional longtime Mayor of (I think), Boston is defeated but immediately declares for Governor. Cuomo could conceivably still run for President by expectorating disingenuously"I'm a moderate who was beaten by a crazy leftist: why America can do better than that, believe in me!"

Often here in generally common sense western NY state we dream of separate statehood, forever free of lala land on the Hudson. But Buffalo dems, who usually win, just nominated a far left mayoral candidate as did Western NY Rochester and MIdstate Syracuse. So modestly pastoral New New York would still be polluted by atypical population centers.

Meanwhile, NYC just went over the far leftist precipice in its mayoral primary. And unless Curtis Sliwa, a man of common sense and courage who represents the considerable down to earth population of NYC (think people like Guiliani and the NYC firefighters and police on 9/11) can finally swing it, perhaps on a MNYCGA wave, NYC is in for the unmitigated hell guaranteed when far leftists dictate. Not that its any day at the beach under its errant Mayor now. If this very frank now nominated radical wins, well, remember the movie with Kurt Russell where NYC became just a great big "prison"?

The best solution for most younger NY staters is to move. But this is home to us, especially in our North Country and our verdant southern hills west of Binghamton and they are dang nice places to live. I once was in a line at a book sale in Ithaca,NY, the home of Cornell U., "high above (Cayuga Lake's ) waters" upstate and I was wearing an NRA jacket. Boy was I getting the dirty looks. I felt like shouting"where do you idiots think you are anyway? This is an island of fantasy in a sea of common sense!"

Sure, majority rule is a solid democratic principle but it can produce injustice. NY state's dem supermajority dictatorship is a good example and that must not be lost on the rest of America. Put the shamefully far left saturated dems in charge and this is what you get.

  11. Jack, I dunno about "sunlit uplands", but I think we learned in the last few weeks that the Iranians have zero friends, when push comes to shove.

Ray, that's an interesting point that some Christians will be disappointed that the entire Middle East isn't ablaze and thus Armageddon has been deferred. What are your views on the End Times? My view is...what happens happens, but timing isn't something I worry about unduly. All I can do is get right with God myself. He can pull the plug on humanity whenever He likes, but in the meantime I'm along for the (wild) ride.

Ray, you're right that the Shahs weren't perfect, by any means, but their "reign of terror" was a walk in the park compared to the totalitarianism of the Ayatollah. Anyway, it hardly matters. The Shahs will never rule Iran again. A (sham) democracy with pro-Western leanings is the best we can hope for.

Cuomo's path to City Hall has gotten a lot rockier, true, but he hasn't surrendered his spot on the ballot, and thus he hasn't entirely given up the ghost, politically speaking. In a multi-candidate field, I wouldn't count him out.

The Rapture is the main End Times event for millions of Protestant Christians. Prior to 1830, no one ever heard of it, until an Englishman by the name of John Nelson Darby invented it. Check it out.

The main indoctrination center for peddling The Rapture nonsense is Dallas Theological Seminary.

One thing for sure, I do NOT believe in The Rapture nonsense. With that said, big bucks have been made by people like the late Tim LaHaye, with his "Left Behind" series. Yes, the series is fiction, but it is solidly based on The Rapture, which is also fiction. Ha! Books on it are still being churned out, with megachurch pastors such as John Hagee, in the forefront. In any event, the bigger the lie, the more people will believe it.

  13. Very interesting, Ray. You've told me what you DON'T believe, but what do you believe, in a millenarian sense? Will there be a Second Coming?
