The Radio Show To End All Radio Shows

Friends, assuming you've mastered the internets, you'll be impressed and amazed by this week's Newsmaker Show.  Brian and I tackle current newsworthy barnburners like the January 6th hearings, the delegitimization of democracy, the dangers of escalation in the Black Sea, gun control/gun rights, and more!

When we get to "This Day in History", Brian and I tackle not one, but two World Wars, with a little generational analysis of warfare thrown in.  We also cover the wave of assassinations in the 1960s and 70s, and how our own Era of Bad Feelings compares.

Tune in today!  You won't hear me on the radio again until the end of June, when I return from my triumphal tour of the United Kingdom.

  1. Dr.Waddy: Good passage and pleasant sojourne in the certainly "sceptered Isle" What first? I agree with your argument that Nato forceful response to the blockade of Ukraine grain exports ,be it as it may, is unlikely! A frivolous thought: could those countries thereby starved mount a naval relief?I mean, the Rus have an inferior Navy but... !!?? I believe any extensive grain shortage could have been alleviated by the incomparably prolific US except for: the Biden administration far leftist strangulation, by unbearable expense and, if that does not work, straitened supply of the fuel much needed by American highly mechanized agriculture. (What? Do you radicals want "the man on the hoe" to return? ?)

  2. Dr.Waddy from Jack: Oh the showmanship, yes, of Pelosi's revenge: the Jan. 6 tribunal.I am very encouraged by your perception that what I call the real America, will not be moved and may be inspired evermore to turn out in November. Dem disdain for prosecution of the 2020 rioters and of Eric Holder for his contempt for Congressional summons, COMPLETELY discredits them and the real America KNOWS it!

  3. Dr. Waddy: Re: the broadcast: Churchill thought 1914 - 1945 to be a new 30 years war. That conflict , fought mainly in then German states, manifested such extensive inhumanity that some historians think it implanted in the German people a determination to advance ORDER above over all else and that that had historically evident consequences even unto the 20th century. One could argue that the theretore unimaginably intense World Wars had a comparably intense effect!!

  4. Dr. Waddy from Jack: WWI taught HARD lessons (eg the power of a united Germany and the totally unexpected puissance of modern weaponry). President Wilson was an idealist who actually thought American power and ideals could be so concentrated as to solve ancient European antipathies! Yes, it forced an armistice but that only.

  5. Dr.Waddy from Jack: WWII: a continuation of the fight ( originally mostly European) but now extended by Japanese intent to East Asia! This was a fight against a.plausibly world consuming totalitarian threat and we and our mainly Brit or Brit aided allies
    met it handsomely!!

  6. Dr.Waddy from Jack: I disagree with your WLEA host, Ryan Oneal when he opines that the 60s were worse than now. True, we don't have the assassinations of very important persons we had then but I've never seen the country in more lamentable dysfunction and under such fundamental politic

  7. Dr.Waddy from Jack: . . . under such fundamental domestic political attack as it is today! In the 60s the "American" left did great damage but it was not esconsed in the White House as it is today. It commands our weak and marionettelike "President". The poor, partially uncomprehending dear; he wants to be "nonjudgemental and tolerant" and his cynical quasicriminal leftist handlers take full, grimly determined, advantage! Unthinkable gas prices ,"Presidentially "celebrated as being necessary "progressive "measures; a Southernborder in which our lawful and dutiful border enforcers are threatened and suppressed, for doing their jobs, at the will of contemptuous leftists who infest our Federal executive branch, resulting in a defacto mass invasion by illegal immigrants; terribly, counterintuitively placed sympathy for violent criminals and minimalizing of their victims; Hillaryesque use of our armed forces for vindictive social experimentation; disingenuous fixation of blame for insane mass murder on lawful gunowners and their NRA, a civil rights
force which defends the Constitutional rights of gun owners and in doing so earns a vicious leftist antipathy the left would not dare to focus on any other civil rights group; exaltation, far beyond tolerance ,of groups who celebrate and advocate criminal law suppression of any who dare to find any discomfort in their attacks on traditional, proven positive, mores ; full and enthusiastic Federal executive branch support for unlimited, convenient, killing of unborn children and poo pooing of comprehensive , ruinous INFLATION, directly attributable to far leftist government overspending: we face thereby existential threat from forces resolved to END the real America and replace it with a counterintuitive, unworkable, smoky "American" left DREAM!!!

  8. Dr.Waddy from Jack: I should add to the above: the total adoption by our leftist Federal executive branch of unproven doctrines of human generated global warming. These are a powerful pretense for extending Federal control of so many aspects of public and private life and with it, incipient leftist totalitarian takeover!

  9. Dr.Waddy from Jack: Though history may not provide an example of an incipient ,democratically disguised, imposition of far leftist tyranny now so evident in our America, still, present day radical leftist presumption freely demonstrates such intent! All leftist totalitarians in power make haste to impose on captured populations counterintuitive and often murderous summary decrees and extremely forceful establishment of radical measures:Cambodia 1975 and Stalin's , yes, delayed for a time until he mustered the necessary FORCE, sociopathic Ukraine famine and his insane purge of devoted party members and loyal military officers.

  10. Dr.Waddy from Jack: The time since Biden's inauguration demonstrates a step in the "progessive" far leftist investment of the US. All historical leftist takeovers are defined by infliction on national populations of measures asserted as "necessary". but of limitless suffering.Of course executive gov't cadre protect themselves against such"unfortunate" consequences, which are certain! In today's US we see them purposefully decare immunity from the dysfunction I have noted above. That is CLASSIC leftist behavior! They are reprising a comprehensively proven pattern in their, yes, not yet, takeover! Pay heed, real America, we have as yet the power to deny them!!

  11. Dr.Waddy from Jack: Actually the far left almost did take incipient and disingenuous control of a democratic land. The UK was on the marxist brink until PM Thatcher saved it!

  12. Jack, I'll mostly be in London during my visit to the U.K., but diversions to Oxford/Blenheim and Edinburgh are also on the docket!

I think it highly unlikely that any non-Western countries will unleash their navies in the Black Sea. For one thing, Turkey wouldn't let them. For another, the countries most direly affected will be the poorest and weakest. Plus, if we're smart enough to avoid war with a nuclear superpower, you can bet they will be too. I suspect all this howling about "food security" is mostly hot air designed to discomfit the Russians. There's no need for anyone to starve. Prices will go up, sure, but if we care about "food security" then no one is stopping us from handing out food.

Jack, while it's true that we and the Brits fought "totalitarianism" in WWII, it's never a bad idea to recall that we also fought alongside it...and that ambivalence very nearly doomed humanity.

Interesting analysis of our predicament versus that of America in the 60s/70s, Jack. I tend to agree. Assassinations and riots (believe it or not) are rarer these days, but we face a far more serious threat to the survival of the Republic, insofar as almost all its institutions have now been subverted. In fact, those two facts are interconnected. Today, by and large, the Left doesn't NEED to kill public figures or terrorize its enemies through civil unrest, because it already holds the reins of power. For the Left to succeed in imposing its totalitarian will, therefore, all it needs is to have the patience to bully and sideline the few conservative stragglers who remain discreetly and gradually. Drip drip drip -- that's the ticket. Fortunately for us, the Left DOESN'T have the necessary patience, and it constantly overplays its (very strong) hand. Thus, we have a fighting chance.
