The Backlash Against Comrade Zuckerberg

Friends, ever since the social media titans decided to become sentinels of orthodoxy and openly persecute, censor, and expel conservatives, the question has been: how would Republican elected officials respond?  By signing Florida's landmark social media freedom bill yesterday, Governor Ron DeSantis fired a shot across Big Tech's bow.  No longer will they be allowed to deny access to their platforms, particularly to candidates for public office.  Will it work?  That we don't know, and there will be lots of legal wrangling to decide the issue.  At least DeSantis is trying, though.  If he fails, it's no exaggeration to say that American democracy is endangered.  If the "loyal opposition" can't share its ideas with the public, it won't get far.  We'll thus be one big step closer to a one-party state.

In other news, Senator Rand Paul is getting death threats (again).  Given the apoplectic hatred that burns in the hearts of many a "progressive", it's no great surprise.

The rise in crime is becoming an issue nationally that could -- could -- sink the Democrats, but only if the public is permitted to know about it.  It's also getting some attention in the special election that's taking place in New Mexico on June 1st.

The battle over the Jan. 6th Commission is heating up, and the GOP appears ready to filibuster Nancy Pelosi's bill.  That should sink the idea, unless a last-minute compromise emerges.  And really...what's the need for a commission anyway?  We already know that there are legions of angry people in this country on the Left and on the right, and that quite a few of them hate Congress and would love to storm it.  Ergo, the Capitol needs adequate security!  Problem solved.

U.S. embassies have already been encouraged to fly the rainbow flag, so why not the BLM flag too?  Super!  Maybe the Black Panthers flag next?  Or maybe we should just skip ahead and fly the Chinese flag or the Soviet flag?  That's where this insanity is heading.

Lest we forget, BLM is a radical, racist, and Marxist organization.  Its racism is in the name, for heaven's sake!  Our only consolation lies in the fact that the Dems seem to have realized how embarrassing a lot of BLM's rhetoric (and rioting) is, and they've issued orders to their paramilitary wing to stand down.  Oh, joy!  But how long will this respite last?  Answer: until the militants get new marching orders.

Lastly, here's a thought-provoking piece that challenges all of us to rise above our very modern and very American urge to resent those who have wronged us.  It illuminates the path to a restoration of America's spiritual strength, yes, but it's almost certain to fall on deaf ears, because victimhood and resentment lie at the center of our contemporary worldview.

I think a lot of what is going on now is The McCarthy era come home to roost, and a revisit from the 1960s movements. (For example, the BLM is a "resurrection" of The Black Panthers.) I could elaborate, but I know you can "fill in the gaps" so to speak.

Also, and as usual, we are "being played" by foreign powers who are just as good as our CIA used to be in the disinformation (and election rigging) departments.

The two statements above tend to be rather simplistic I realize, but I thought I might cut to the chase.

As for resenting those who have wronged us, we can thank our lucky stars that we have not been "Balkanized" or else we would be out on the streets slaughtering each other, literally. Remember those Chetniks and Ustasha going at each other?

  2. Dr.Waddy from Jack: We can assume that a "Jan.6th" "Commission" urged by Madame Pelosi, would concentrate its scrutiny on January 6th, yes? We can expect this to be the sole reaction from Madame concerning the "disorders" of2020 since the travails of the lawful in radical ravaged Minneapolis, Seattle and Portland are as dross, dust to her but not those most "inconvenienced" by them!

  3. Dr.Waddy from Jack: So hurrah for Mitch in invoking filibuster. Now, an opener in negotiations might be to say "Well gee, perhaps we ought also to examine clearly left wing extremist outrages, both recently accomplished nationwide and reasonably expected of radicals , on site, should our Congress or SCOTUS insolently defy their demands". It is not, of course,of Dem intention to conduct comprehensive examination of recent disorder. And so,I thank Mitch for his courageous and characteristic stand, especially in light of recent expressed doubt about his leadership.

  4. Ray, it's an interesting question how much our internal divisions are being stoked by foreign actors... I incline to the view that we Americans don't need any help when it comes to steering our democracy into the abyss, but maybe I give us too much credit?

The metaphor of "Balkanization" may prove ultimately to be all too apt. Yugoslavia proved that a seemingly successful and civilized polity can descend into chaos and barbarism in short order. It CAN happen here, I have no doubt. If it does, the key will be to find a haven in which one can enjoy "safety in numbers". One thing's for sure: the U.N. won't save us!

Jack, I personally don't object to a Jan. 6th Commission that focuses ONLY on Jan. 6th, BUT I would hope it would consider the laxity of security just as much as the supposed toxicity of Trumpism. Faint hope!

As for the riots and sundry leftist "insurrections", I doubt that commissions will get us anywhere, but if we retake the House or Senate I'd like to think that a few agitators will at least be forced to answer some pointed questions...
