SALT I: Fewer Nukes, More Eyebrow Hair

Friends, the signing of the first Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT I) in May 1972 by Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev and U.S. President Richard Nixon marked a major milestone in the Cold War.  Détente took hold, offering the two superpowers the opportunity to resolve their differences through negotiation rather than armed conflict and possibly even nuclear war.  Most importantly, relationships of trust began to forn between U.S. and Soviet leaders, paving the way for the unraveling of Cold War tensions in the late 1980s.

This is just one of several scintillating historical topics covered in this week's Newsmaker Show.  Brian and I also tackle: whether a war similar to the Vietnam War could occur today, and the 1924 bill restricting immigration from southern and eastern Europe.

When the discussion turns to current events, Brian and I take no prisoners.  We take on hot-button topics like: the death threats against Senator Rand Paul, the legitimacy and prospects of the proposed Jan. 6th Commission, the future of the filibuster, the prevalence of hypocrisy among Democratic and Republican politicians, the crime wave in America's cities and its political lessons and consequences, new theories about the origin of COVID-19 and Chinese culpability, and whether or not Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will succeed in stopping Big Tech's persecution of conservatives.

Man oh man!  You don't want to miss a show like this one.  Tune in today!

  1. One thing that President Nixon did that has been detrimental to the The U.S. (and the World) was to officially recognize the PRC, the most ruthless dictatorship on this planet. Yes, I know, that at the time there were specific reasons given, but the negotiations with the PRC (Mao and Dr. Strangelove) were held in secret. In that respect, there was a great deal of contempt shown to the American people in general and our Vietnam War Veterans in particular.

Dr. Strangelove is still around and he must be gloating about this. He remains one of these elite class academics who thinks the balance of power is more important than anything. Those of his ilk remain with us, although they are probably not as smart as Dr. Strangelove. Recognizing the PRC and dumping the true Chinese government on Taiwan has put a "curse" on us, with more sorrow to come.

In any event, Dr. Strangelove will no doubt answer to the Creator for his actions at The Great White Throne Judgement along with Mao and Chou, and a fleet of others. Possibly Nixon might be there with him, despite the fact that Billy Graham officiated at his funeral.

  2. Ray, we might have done well to follow Dr. Strangelove's advice! An all-out first strike on the Soviet Union was vaguely practicable in the early 60s, when the Soviets had virtually no ICBMS and no submarine-launchable missiles at all. By the late 60s, by contrast, I'd say MAD was hard to dispute.

Just imagine: we might have wiped Marxism off the face of the earth in one fell swoop! That's worth, oh, 50 million casualties in the West as a whole, right? Like Stalin said, "One death is a tragedy, but..."

I jest, of course. Or do I? I'm not sure.

  3. Dr. Nick

No matter what, officially recognizing The Soviet Union in the early 1930s under FDR, and the PRC under Nixon 40 years later were huge mistakes. Both were criminal regimes and the PRC still is. It's too late now, the damage is done. And I thank that arrogant son of a bitch Dr. Strangelove for nothing. Marxism will never be wiped off the face of this earth, but aiding and abetting the enemy tends to piss me off.

  4. Understandable, Ray, but playing one enemy off another seems like sound strategy to me. The bigger mistake was cozying up to the one major communist power that DIDN'T renounce communism, while building up NATO as a counterweight to an enemy that no longer existed: the Soviet Union.

  5. Dr.Waddy et al from Jack: Comrade Leonid was one of my favorite "Marxists". With his 100 cars and no doubt other, ehh, luxuries, he perfectly exemplified the cynical resignation of Russian commie elite by then, with their utterly discredited, proven unworkable and subhuman system. Besides, what a classic face!

  6. Dr.Waddy from Jack: You asked in the broadcast "Are the poor people of the world to decide who gets to immigrate to the U.S.?" I'll presume, while holding my gorge, to present the far left's, the Squad's ,response : " If we have our way, of course they will unless they chance to originate in countries embodying Western Civilization. They will, that is, until we take over, for the accomplishment of which they compose a most useful toolbut after which their influx will be controlled at our pleasure, as, be assured, all immigration will be,very CERTAINLY and FORCEFULLY managed and controlled by us! We have not your touchy feely misgivings! Ask the ghosts of the Gulag, of the ethnic groups blithely transported by Comrade Stalin, of the Vietnamese largely Chinese boat people, of the Krondstat Garrison. You really don't know what we are about do you? Is the history of the 20th century as nothing to you? "

  7. Dr.Waddy from Jack: Re: Jan. 6, I can think of no other mass incursion on the U.S. Capitol but its worth noting the impromptu uninvited debaucherly destructive advent of the similarly unwashed on the White House after Andrew Jackson's inauguration. Worth noting too is the apparently freely admitted placing of bombs in the Capitol building by Vietnam era radicals, some of whom are now welcome in fashionable leftist salons!

  8. Dr.Waddy from Jack: Re: Threats to Rand Paul: Your observation that the degree of leftist hatred for conservatives is out of control be confirmed by leftist restraint in directing the withering attacks they would aim at any of their crowd similarly assaulted. The left is essentially imbued with maximum, reason destroying HATE for any person or entity which dares to oppose it and is, definitively, concentrated on those most obvious in conviction against their presumptuous pronunciementos!

  10. Ha! You're right, Jack: Leonid was a "classic" commie. Corrupt, complacent, hypocritical...and bloated, to boot! A pretty good enemy, though, if one gets to choose one's enemies...

True, Jack -- when bonafide Marxism abides in the hearts of every American, then the usefulness of illegal immigration will be at an end. A one-party state doesn't need any more voters. One voter will do, in fact. Besides, they'll need to build plenty of border walls...to keep the proles from escaping.

You're right, of course, that federal buildings and personages have been attacked before -- and by people armed with much more than signs and slogans!

I'm beginning to think that hatred is what defines and animates the Left. Everything else is semantics to them.

  11. Dr.Waddy from Jack: You arevery right to point out the very murderously demonstrated Marxist view of the functionof borders.
