This Just In: The New York Times Admits that Cuomo and DeBlasio Dropped the Ball

Friends, you have to hand it to the Times.  These days it's easy for lefties to blame Trump for everything.  A lot of liberals are also too busy drooling over the suavity of Andrew Cuomo's press conferences to examine the competence of his leadership.  Nevertheless, the NYT has done some excellent investigative reporting here, and what they've uncovered is pretty arresting.  Many more people in the Empire State will die -- have died -- because Cuomo and DeBlasio dragged their feet in taking action to stem the pandemic.  To be fair, there's plenty of failure to go around, but the fact that the left-wing media would train any of its criticism on Democrats is, well, refreshing.  Well done, Gray Lady!

  1. Nothing to see here, move along...well, that is at least I think that his how DeBlasio and Cuomo see it.

  2. Dr. Waddy: I'm from Missouri where the Times is concerned (and sometimes I wish I really did reside there) so my initial reaction is that they are up to something; that this story smells of disingenuousness. They did manage to include lots of Trump derision in it. The only thing which keeps me from dismissing it out of hand is the continued well considered quality of your commentary; that must give me pause this time.

  3. Linda/Jack -- I'm sure Cuomo and DeBlasio will dismiss what the Times had to say, but they do so at their peril. Sure, the Times included the perfunctory attacks on Trump (I think those are mandatory every few lines now), but they spent a lot of column space demonstrating the incompetence of the two leading Democrats in our state. That's, well, news! As for their motives, I won't speculate.

  4. Dr. Waddy: Re: your previous post since it ties in well here: You have made a plausible observation here that Cuomo's rise in popularity nationwide may be vulnerable to severe criticism. His histrionic showmanship is all too familiar to us in NY but the country may well catch on soon to his facile self promotion and take note also of his ridiculous insular New Yawky squabble with DiBlasio.(By the way, I make fun only of Cuomo's corrosive accent; after 9/11 I have much respect for New York City courage). This boomlet for him may subside and that promises a clear path for the feckless Biden and his very challenged campaign staff.

Joe apparently actually believes he can savage tough Donald Trump the way he toyed with wimpy Paul Ryan. EHH, NOT! The general election campaign is now underway and his recent remarks suggest the tenor of his campaign is a continuation of unrestrained excoriation of our President even in time of crisis. His disloyalty and that of his party, is manifest. Oh do persist in that poor Joe! What, do the Dems propose to mount him, like unto El Cid, mentally dead to the world, in November? This is devoutly to be wished.

  5. Dr. Waddy: Tom Reed: This is a critical time for him. Will Cuomo rise to complete dominance due to a statewide perception of formidability and consummate leadership? Maybe not! But I would not want to see Tom spend his campaigning skill and the considerable political capital he has earned on a Kamikaze mission. He could also do us much good in the Senate. I've seen how well he handles his smuggly politically correct female opponents before. They have tried the presumptuous "war against women" screed on him and he has given them their due and with grace. That suggests he could deal with juvenile, feckless Kirsten. He may do well to consider it. In the Senate he might rise as he did in the House and redeem our state thereby.

  6. Jack, I'm not sweating it re: Cuomo's national ambitions, but the fate of Tom Reed intrigues me. You're right -- he could run for Senate. His chances there wouldn't be great either, unless AOC wins a primary against Schumer or Gillibrand, and we can't rule that out. She's dumb enough to think she could win statewide, and she's arrogant enough to take on her own party. 'Twould be fun!

  7. Dr.Waddy: Tom against AOC That's a fundamental confrontation, a very plausible near future electoral contest. She would of course presumptuously employ all of contemporary radical man hating, totalitarian feminists' power.Tom is resolute in combating this.

  8. It would be a battle royale, and then some! I wonder if the establishment Dems would accept her as the candidate, though?
