The Campaign Against "Hate": Nothing Makes Liberals More Sanctimonious...And More Self-Deluded

Friends, my latest article concerns a topic of burning interest to the mainstream media: "hate" and whether or not it thrives on the political right.  You can guess my point of view: "hate" exists everywhere on the political spectrum, but if anything conservatives and Republicans are less guilty of indulging in hateful violence than liberals and Democrats.  See if you agree...

  1. Yikes. The hateful and mean comments by one person that replied to your article has left me utterly speechless. I guess the word troll come to mind...oh wait, that is hateful speech, right? Of course, I am being somewhat snarky. It just goes to show you how ridiculous this subject has become. Indeed, hate festers in both parties, in both liberals and conservatives. I am afraid though, common decency is out the window as long as the MSM fuels the flame. I beginning to wonder, if all this planned? It sure seems to me that the media and the democrats have the same talking points.

  2. Dr. Waddy and Linda: Apparently posters saying "Death camps for Trump supporters" have been promulgated on Long Island. And WE are the terrorists? Huh?

Utter, blinding, murderous and complete hate is to be found only on the ridiculous Nazi fringes of the right. But it is mainstream on the left. And that is because they recognize no moral limit to their antipathy. They are freed by their Marxist mentors from any restraint and are thus bid only to follow the urging of their "feelings". Their 20th century predecessors followed this siren call and enacted unprecedented mass sanctions on those who called them into question. So certainly, if empowered, would that amusing commie down the hall in your dorm or that union guy who talks"oppression" at union functions or a Presidential candidate who says "am I a Marxist? That's a good question".

  3. Dr. Waddy and Linda: "Hate" is yet another of those terms leftists blithely employ because we allow them to do so. They must be directly and unapologetically confronted when they casually drop them. They are unaccustomed to challenge as to the meaning and applicability of such, to them, automatic and unassaiable condemnations and they are pathetically inept in defending them, since they rely on emotion alone. So, they must be challenged at every step. They are a mortal threat to our way of life and they must be stood up to.

  4. Linda, I completely agree that the media is fanning the flames of "hate". "Hate" wins votes for Democrats, and it achieves ratings for journalists. The basic goodness of the American people, by contrast, won't cause the kind of useful panic that these diabolical forces need to foster. But Linda, if you mean to suggest that this is all part of a master plan, and the media and the Dems are seeking violent revolution as an ultimate outcome, I tend to doubt it. I don't believe that most of them think beyond the next election, or the next sweeps week... Beating Trump is their immediate goal, and they seem to assume that everything will fall into place after that. From their own twisted perspective, they may be right.

Jack, you're right that left-wing extremism has produced plenty of "hate" and even more violence, which, lest we forget, doesn't necessarily need hatred to thrive. Once the machinery of oppression is in place, violence becomes almost automatic, and there are (somewhat incredibly) plenty of people who are capable of killing without remorse, and without the impetus of blind hatred to get them going. Indifference, or a dulling of the moral sense, can be just as insidious as "hate", which is ugly but usually empty and blustering. I guess what I am saying is that the emotional killers are bad, yes, but the cool, calculating mass killers, of which the Nazis and Stalinists could boast many, were and are a greater threat to humanity.

  5. Apologies, Dr. Waddy. I should of been more clear. I quite agree, the media's plan is to beat the President.

    Well said, Jack.

  6. Dr. Waddy and Linda: I would maintain that the inhuman ideologies which gave substance and "justification"to the Nazis and the Stalinists in their perhaps otherwise incomprehensible depravity are of a kind to be found at the radical core of the American left and its perhaps largely unwitting vehicle, the Dem party. Credible evidence exists that some '60's radicals(some of them cordial hosts of a nascent President Obama) now revered as a kind of elder saggitary by the Dems, casually contemplated the "execution of 20 million patriots and the establishment of 'reeducation camps' in the Southwest. My guess is that AOC and her ilk would view such prospects with favor.

  7. Jack, I take a somewhat different view. I suspect the Nazis AND the Bolsheviks would have scoffed, before they took power, at the idea that their rule would lead to millions of executions. Few would have relished the idea of mass murder in advance. But that didn't prevent the mass murders from happening. Once you take power, and assuming you have absolute contempt for everyone who opposes you, the concentration camps practically build themselves...

  8. Dr. Waddy:That is a very creditable view. Since Nazis and Marxists had no historic precedent to which to to refer, and since the 20th century offers us ample evidence of unexpected and even unwished for consequences of radical action, it makes sense that Nazi and Marxist sociopathic radicals might not have been have been capable of imagining the full implications of their blithe and casual enactment of unimaginably inhuman measures (such as the death camps or the Gulag).
