Redskins to Return???

Friends, in the wake of the George Floyd riots in 2020, it seemed the whole world went mad, or, more accurately, went woke.  Every major corporation was tripping over itself to express its solidarity with "Black" Americans (and God help you if you forgot to capitalize the "B"!), and quite a few sports teams put their long-time mascots into cold storage.  Well, 2025 is a whole different ball game (if you'll pardon the pun), and now President Trump is demanding that the tide of wokeness be not only stopped, but reversed.  He wants Washington's NFL team to once again be known as the Redskins.  Is such a thing possible?  Would a major institution, in a town as liberal as D.C., dare to defy woke/progressive orthodoxy, and cater to Trumpism, in such a flagrant way?  Time will tell, but I would be immensely impressed and reassured if we discovered that the answer is YES!

Our valiant new Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is claiming that former President Obama was involved in a "treasonous conspiracy" against his elected successor, Donald J. Trump.  Those are words that one would hope a DNI would choose carefully, and they imply that Obama and other officials in his administration might be guilty of crimes, up to and including treason.  That's kind of a big deal!  Now, was the intelligence suggestive of Trump's involvement in a Russian-led conspiracy to alter the results of the 2016 election deliberately exaggerated/misrepresented?  I surely think so.  Nonetheless, we have to admit that, thus far, we conservatives/Republicans have done an awfully poor job of proving criminal complicity in any such effort to defame and undermine President Trump.  We've done an even worse job of convicting anyone in a court of law.  Do Gabbard's words suggest that more prosecutions may be forthcoming?  That would be a fascinating and highly significant development.  Or, perhaps, are Gabbard's words just typical inside the Beltway hot air?  You tell me...

  1. Dr. Waddy from Jack: I dunno: the change of the Redskins name was one I thought justified. It had always appeared to me to be derogatory. But then I saw a former Redskins player who is fully "Native American" on Fox declare that that term was originated long before football by indigenous peoples and is very much liked by them.

Though I assume that since D.C. is a Federal entity, the President has the authority to make it an issue, I wish he wouldn't get involved. Commanders is a plausible name for a D. C. team. Heck my team, the Buffalo Bills ,has a name originally pretty well irrelevant to Buffalo. Cody may have set foot in Buffalo but. . . . Don't matter none now, we love our Bills.

The naming of a team in what is after all a free enterprise ought to be a matter decided by the owner who, as a successful businessman, will almost certainly pay close attention to public opinion.

  2. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Well, DNI Gabbard's opinions on the matter have been properly forwarded to the relevant authority ,the DOJ. I have not heard whether or not her formal referral to the DOJ includes expression of suspicion of treason. From DNI Gabbard and at DOJ those concerns will surely be treated with an objectivity and professionalism which DJT was denied both in the DOJ and in lesser law enforcement agencies.in the lawfare onslaught he was subjected to in the Biden years. And that's not to otherwise mention the two vindictive Schumerous and Pelosiesque 'impeachments directed at him.

My, my: the chickens do come home to roost! This time their cause may well be just.

  3. RAY TO DR. WADDY

Neither Obama or The Clintons will ever see the inside of a jail cell. Their reputations will no doubt suffer, if ever the accusations can be proved. Other that that, it's a "sticks and stones......." exercise in futility.

How important is changing the name of some team? Must be real important for our national addiction to sports while slurping our new formula cokes.

  4. Dr. Waddy from Jack: I so earnestly hope that these very possibly decisive revelations work to the advantage of General Flynn and give him the means to seek financial compensation, satisfaction and personal vindication for the indescribably vicious ordeal forced upon him by the limitlessly ruthless and unprincipled far left. I think he lost his home to legal expenses. The path to General's rank is a long and self sacrificing one and he was subjected to the humiliation and pain of which perhaps only one who has travelled that demanding professional road could comprehend. It was enabled by a reprise of the ingratitude and hatred presumed by the '60s pukes for our freedom assuring armed forces and the Clintons' detestable reprise of that abomination.

Let the injustice done to General Flynn ( and to others) be met with the full power of redeeming, though belated, justice as part of the deserved righting of this terrible wrong done so many, including our indefatigable and great President. Let this entire episode , this presumptuous hoax, stand as FULLY exemplary of the evil of which the "American" left is both capable and blithe to freely commit, in the pursuit of its totalitarian dream. How very fortunate we were that Hillary was denied her throne and how very much determined we are BOUND to be to take full advantage of that good fortune and DJT's courageous return until we have democratically delivered our nation from the curse of the radical left.

  5. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Should the DOJ level legal charges as a result of these revelations: well gee, the far left has pioneered the prosecution of a former President now haven't they?! Of course the nominal indictments of DJT were for a wealth of dreamy accusations and consequent legal consequences such as booking (with very usable photographs) and Court appearances were very handy, as were preordained "convictions". But also of course their real purpose was to prevent DJT's unthinkable reelection to the Presidency, "BY ANY MEANS!"

Should Barack Obama be so inconvenienced by DNI Gabbard's findings and consequently prosecuted , an ancillary "benefit" could be the diminution of his still very formidable influence on a beleagured Dem party to which he counsels counterintuitive and disingenuous "moderation" lest it be thoroughly swamped. Oh just sayin'.

  6. Dr. Waddy from Jack: The Federal treason statute is serious, that's for sure.I believe it has no statute of limitations and that it has the death penalty as an option. At any rate, any conviction of the elect for this offense would go to our lawful Scotus and there be judged with principle and objectivity.

DNI Gabbard, in having used the term "treasonous" does much less than the far left does in defining President Trump as "fascist", a devotee of a movement history shows to be massively murderous.

  7. Jack, I'm not a big fan of federal intervention in the naming of sports teams either, but symbolism matters. If the Washington Commanders were to revert to their original name, we would know that the cultural winds were blowing strongly in our direction. And when was the last time we could say that???

Ray, I very much doubt that any Obama or any Clinton will ever see the inside of a courtroom, let alone a jail cell, but then again, as I just opined, symbols are extremely important, and the nation would be absolutely captivated by the trial of a leftist luminary/celebrity. For once, Trump himself might be overshadowed. But personally I would only want to see such a trial unfold if there was genuine probable cause and thus a strong possibility of conviction. That also begs the question: where on earth would we find an "impartial" jury?

Jack, don't discount the possibility that the prosecution of any Democratic royalty could be seen as, well, lawfare, and might actually help the Democrats politically. We need to tread carefully.
