Friends, 60 years ago, President Lyndon Johnson started us down the dark path of race preferences, via "affirmative action". Plenty of subsequent presidents, Democrats and Republicans, compounded his mistake. Now, it appears that President Trump is determined to restore meritocracy as the SOLE criterion for advancement in the federal government. Hooray!!! One sign of this is his recision of President Johnson's original executive order from way back in 1965.
An Episcopal bishop is the heroine du jour among leftists because she implored President Trump to show "mercy" towards members of the LGBTQ+++ community and illegal immigrants. If you ask me, this isn't quite the affront that some have suggested it is, because "mercy" is all well and good for any Christian. However, mercy and compassion do not necessarily imply that we should give license to others to do whatever they want, to whomever they want. Mercy must be tempered by prudence and righteousness.
Are we seeing the beginning of the end of the Russia-Ukraine War? Time will tell, but Trump is suggesting that Russia might want to wrap things up soon, or else he (Trump) might be forced to redouble the sanctions against Russia. Well, I'm not sure I take that very seriously. The West has already hit Russia harder with sanctions than virtually any country in history. I doubt that there's much more we can do, short of joining the conflict ourselves. Be that as it may, Trump is obviously trying to increase his leverage over Putin and obtain the best possible settlement for Ukraine, since Republican hawks and our allies in Europe will insist on nothing less. Can "the Art of the Deal" put an end to this pointless conflict? We're about to find out.

ReplyDeleteLooks like Trump needs to stay away from the Episcopal Church in the future. As you know, the Episcopal Church tends to the Left, or should I say represents a very liberal version of Christianity, with gay Bishops and so on.
In the U.S., the late Episcopal Bishop John Shelby Spong was largely responsible for transforming this church from conservative to liberal and beyond. He (Spong) wrote several books, which in one he suggested that The Apostle Paul was gay. Surprised Trump and his advisors were not aware that the Episcopal Church is not exactly his cup of tea.
Interesting that the support for individuals to be with (and, shudder, even marry) the ones they love is considered to be liberal. Conservatives don't believe in love? Who knew?
ReplyDeleteAs for the sermon, it was spot on. People are rightly being fearful of the Trump-Musk administration (the fascist salutes are not a good look), and the bishop was merely calling for mercy and understanding, not policy changes.
Karoline "Daddy Complex" Leavitt responded with a bunch of lies about the sermon. That's not only a sin to bear false witness, but puts her in the running to take the crown of worst press secretary ever from Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

DEI will be back in 2028 in the Whitmer-Ossoff administration. Trump has issued executive orders regarding DEI, which then can be repealed and reversed four years from now.

Ray, I'm sure Trump is well aware that the high clergy in the Episcopal Church tends to be progressive. For that matter, almost everyone in D.C. tends to be progressive. That's just a fact of life. He's a big boy. He can handle it.
ReplyDeleteFor shame, Rod -- I think you just shamed Karoline Leavitt for her youth. That's age discrimination, don't ya know? We won't respond in kind, you'll be glad to hear, by harping on your decrepitude. Not for a second!
I'd be inclined to let the remarks of Bishop Budde slide, but the claim that LGBTQ+++ people "fear for their lives" because of Trump is pretty rich. Is all criticism and opposition tantamount to mass murder for lefties? It seems so.
I agree: DEI will be back, assuming the Dems ever are. I would love to hear more about this Whitmer-Ossoff fantasy. How on Earth did you arrive at that glorious conjugation???
The remark about Leavitt has less to do with her youth, and more to do with past and present non-political actions.
ReplyDeleteAs for Whitmer-Ossoff, Whitmer is the most highly recognized viable Democrat for 2028 (Harris is not viable, and will likely be governor of CA). Whitmer is governor of Michigan -- a battleground state -- and has a strong record to run on. Plus, she would smoke Vance in any debate. Ossoff is from GA, another battleground state, but southern, and is both smart and incredibly articulate. Both candidates are also physically attractive, which doesn't hurt.

Hmm. It's not the worst idea I've ever heard... Definitely an upgrade on Harris-Walz. Smoke Vance? Dream on. She'd be lucky to hold her own.
