Friends, in a bizarre, uniquely American, ritual, Vice-President Kamala Harris, the loser in the 2024 presidential election, was today forced to preside over the Congressional certification of her nemesis, Donald J. Trump, as the winner of the same election. Ouch! It was Kamala's "Mike Pence moment", you might say, except that no one was trying to bash in the door at the time. Who, quite frankly, on January 6th, 2021, would have predicted that we'd be in this situation four years later? Redemption for DJT was always a possibility, I suppose, but what a long, strange trip it's been! The Dems are delighting in reminding us of the abominable crimes of four years ago, of course, as they exhult in their exemplary behavior in the wake of their recent election drubbing. Well, fine. Let them pat themselves on the back about something. No one, and I mean no one, would question even for a second that leftists are intellectually and morally superior to all other beings, mortal or divine, after all. We conservatives are pygmies by comparison. Ergo, we'll just have to take the presidency and both houses of Congress as a consolation prize... It's our cross to bear. (Ha!)

To make the day extra special, we also learned that Justin Trudeau, iron-fisted tyrant of Canada, is resigning, giving our neighbors to the north some potential relief from progressive misrule. Hooray for Canada, and hooray for common sense!
How much can DOGE accomplish in the next four years? Ordinarily, you wouldn't think a small group of efficiency nerds would scare the Deep State very much, but, when you put Elon Musk at the head of those nerds, the stakes get a whole lot higher... This article ably summarizes the challenges that DOGE will face.

Dr. Waddy from Jack: I think antiamerica is in deep despair at the moment and that silly Kamala's probably final pseudo executive function is a pathetic symbol of her ridiculousness in ever having been President of the Senate or a "heartbeat away from the Presidency" or even ,more absurd, having sought the Presidency itself. Our country has thankfully and wisely survived her ultimately laughable temporary ascendency into the high reaches, which was courtesy of a dem party for which group identity, not personal accomplishment or merit, is all.
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy from Jack: MAGA has worked astonishing and understandably not widely predicted political phenomena. Perhaps it can continue to do so in the battle to rein in arrogantly presumptuous taxation and spending. And an intensely extraordinary individual like Musk might just be able to inspire and guide it.
ReplyDeleteNews of the demise of the Democratic Party is in error. Yes, there is disappointment that Trump won, and that the Senate flipped. But, MAGA lost seats in the House, and is showing that it can't govern. And, when Trump can't deliver on his promises, the Dems are ready to come back strong in 2026.
ReplyDeleteDems are re-grouping, and making sure that this time MAGA's failures become front and center, while concomitantly making sure not to be sidetracked by culture war issues -- like the MAGA-created moral panic over transgender individuals.

RAY TO ROD
DeleteThe opposition to transgender individuals in particular, and LGBTQ in general, is not coming from MAGA, but from UCC (United Church of Christ), that wants atheists gays, transgenders, and others in that category, to "get right with Jesus" (no pun intended).
Rod from Jack: You may be right. When MAGA inevitably falls short in some areas there may be a reaction.
ReplyDeleteBut I still see a prevalent position among the Dems which holds that they did not communicate well but which sidesteps the essential issue: the party has swung way too far to the left. Its most influential member famously asserted his determination to "fundamentally transform" a US which does not need comprehensive reform. The Dem party reflexively and insouciantly attacks so many highly valued institutions: law enforcement, our legal traditions , the traditional family , the military, the redeeming aspects of US history, the good that US power has done the world, freedom of speech, the right to be armed, free enterprise, nonintrusive gov't etc. ; how can we not see it as intended to be hostile to all we cherish and revere?
We haven't a big deal out of trans issues. We do make a big deal of the far left making it a big deal. I cannot imagine the Dems ever being merely sidetracked by the cultural war. It is their prime , vital battleground in their very probably continuing effort to subvert and destroy America. It is visceral for the still dominant radical wing of the party and they may continue to lose those common sense Dems who cannot abide it any longer.
RAY TO JACK
DeleteYou write a lot better than Rod, who could be that same Rod whose last name begins with the letter "'C" and has advanced degrees in communications. Of course it might not be the same Rod, but some Leftist dunce who thinks he can write, and whose first name just happens to be Rod.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: I couldn't get the Spectator article to yield me more than a few words but you made a good point. Normally we would expect self perpetuating institutional inertia to engulf efforts at seriously cutting Federal spending in a suffocating web of noncooperation and bad will. But perhaps Musk himself will make a decisive difference and Ramaswamy, certainly a Presidential possibility as a successful businessman like pioneering DJT, is no slouch!
ReplyDeleteIt is such a pleasure to look forward to the establishment of this admin istration. Astonishing redemption of our profoundly far left wounded country could be at hand. Maybe, say 10 years from now, it will in retrospect be clear that America was far too strong to be conquered by a bunch of detached smoky dreamers who actually thought such as Mao, Pol Pot and exalted "Che" were exemplary. We needed to be shaken out of our well meaning apologetic "tolerance" and to be rudely reminded that this is a savagely amoral world, the politics of which are blood sport and that that world toys with those touchy feelies who recoil from confronting the ever present purely expeditious power seekers who have always cursed humanity. It took a street smart hombre to convince America that we embody the imperfect best of civilization when we bid the incipiently bloody totalitarians in our own country "STEP OFF!"
Ray from Jack: I think Rod's writing style is creditable and I am flattered to have mine compared to it. His has earned him a PhD I think and I cannot approach that level of tested academic accomplishment. I usually disagree with him but I am glad to be included in the continued brisk dialogue and dialectic at this site and with all participants.
ReplyDeleteWell said, Jack! The contrast between Kamala Harris and J.D. Vance, as presidential understudies, could not be more stark...
ReplyDeleteRod is right, although what his epiphany amounts to is this: Dems will wait and see what damage Trump can do to himself, and then exploit any and all opportunities that arise. No kidding! In this respect, they may at least be learning from their own mistakes. Previously, every blow they've launched at Trump has bounced off harmlessly. The wounds he inflicts on himself, by contrast, are sometimes more serious. "Let Trump be Trump" may be the best advice the Dems have ever given themselves. I guess the corollary is: "Lefties, try shutting your overactive traps for a change!"
Surely, Ray, there's only one Rod bold and courageous enough to take on the savage far right beasts who roam at WaddyIsRight... Two Rods, I daresay, would be too much to hope for.
I personally don't see the Left backing off the trans issue at all. That would amount to a betrayal of the latest class of civil rights icons, from their perspective. No, I think Jack is right that many lefties assume that all they have to do is shout their neo-Marxist convictions a little louder, and all will be well.
And we, Jack, are honored that you choose to include yourself in our humble debating society!
