Tyranny By Other Means

Friends, there's more than one way to undermine our constitutional rights and destroy the concept of free speech, as the dastardly Dems prove each and every day.  For instance, with regard to Rudy Giuliani, once one of America's most respected politicians, the Dems and their media allies have proven adept at obliterating his credibility through mockery.  Score one for Team Blue!  Not content with bulldozing Rudy's reputation, however, the Left is trying an even more promising tack: suing him into oblivion.  Specifically, two Georgia election workers are suing Giuliani for defamation, and there's every prospect that he'll end up in the poorhouse as a result.  As I opine on this week's Newsmaker Show, why is it that the falsehoods purveyed by conservatives are punishable by civil and criminal law, but the falsehoods spread by leftists are...rewarded with Pulitzers, promotions, and big cash payouts?  Part of the reason, no doubt, is because it generally doesn't occur to Republicans and conservatives to criminalize dissent.  Well, that's admirable restraint, I suppose, but when we're done being noble there may be no democracy and no pluralism and no free speech left...

In addition to Rudy's travails, Brian and I discuss the standoff between Congressional Republicans and the White House over border security and funding for Ukraine, the prospects for a Biden impeachment, the exposure of American higher ed to accusations of anti-Semitism and political bias, and the viability (or lack thereof) of Nikki Haley's presidential campaign.

When we turn our attention to This Day in History, we recall the Dems' herculean efforts to contest the 2000 election, and to undermine the presidency of George W. Bush in its early days.  We also cover the devastating fallout from the U.S. decision to invade Iraq in 2003.

Man!  What a topical lineup (insofar as it contains many topics).  I would listen in, if I were you...  Of course, if I were you, I wouldn't be me, so that assurance may be of limited value.

When you're done imbibing my out-of-this-world insights, check out what Newt Gingrich has to say on the subject of the Nixon-era origins of modern leftism:

And kudos to the House of Representatives, which did its duty today and authorized a formal impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden.  Among other things, this move probably guarantees that Biden will be the Democratic nominee -- more good news!!!

  1. Dr.Waddy from Jack: Re your Newsmaker show commentaries: I am very much concerned that you are right in predicting little fundamental change in the dem party in response to the post Oct.7 demonstration of seething antisemitism on the antiamerican left, which I think dominates the once loyal dem party, particularly in some heretofore exalted American "universities". In an article at the prolific conservative site American Thinker, for Dec. 13, titled The New Democrat Wall of Separation, the author describes the post WW II departure of New Deal and "Uncle Joe" Stalin admiring far leftists from the Democrat party at the "behest" of such as Truman,Humphrey (I might add Henry Jackson). The author bids relatively moderate dems (!?) work a similar wall of separation today. Have presumptuous antisemites obviously countenanced by some dems recklessly ignited a revulsion similar to the anticommunist surge of the late '40s I ask. This could provide a rationale for such constructive revision of the shamefully compromised dem party. But is it a plausible possibility?

  2. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Actually you predicted little real change on American campuses, beyond a few exalted heads rolling. But I see these institutions and the dem party as similarly and severely compromised by the antiamerican left. So some 700 profs have rallied to the beleagured "President" of Harvard (HARVARD!) despite her increasingly apparently scholarly mediocrity (13 articles, some of suspect integrity and no monographs). In this the profs do both themselves and the "President"little credit .They protest a steadfast devotion to free speech and intellectual freedom the Harvard community denied former President Summers, who had insolently tangled with the sagacious Cornel West.Technically, I suppose, that's irrelevant to the cringworthy performance President Gay in hiding behind a corkscrew to avoid a solid denunciation of Harvard Jew hatred backed by very affirmative action, thank you. But since she has grievously embarrassed Harvard, perhaps her (well yes, apparently honest, appallingso) failure to attack Harvard's totalitarian neo nazi far left presents a convenient pretext for showing her the door. But would that precipitate change in the the American Academy's obequious surrender to antiamerican leftist dictation? You are probably right in thiinking it will not have that redeeming consequence.

  3. Dr. Waddy from Jack: But what it might bring is action in the only form by which an American Academy happily devoted to "progressive" far left fundamental change of an erring America would be constrained to reform: defunding! State legislatures can and might well do that to presumptuous state universities which display haughty disdain for the cultures of their parent states. And a GOP administration and Congress could threaten Federal funding of private universities which are blithe to sneer at America and American taxpayers. Let such bogs of execrable antiintellectualism and highly personal enforcement of far leftist doctrine exercise their corrupt and disingenuous "devotion" to academic integrity and Constitutional rights on their own dime!

  4. Dr. Waddy from Jack: I do not understand why supporting Ukraine against Russia garners so much backing in our government. Assuming unsurprising lack of appreciation of Russian and Ukrainian history and geography, is it simply anger at Russia's murderous bullying? Is it an historically unsupported since 1989 fear of imminent Russian expansionism?Sweden and Finland, both expert in dealing with Russia, have demonstrated by unprecedented accession to Nato that they think it possible. But how powerful are the Sweden and Finland lobbies?

  5. Dr. Waddy from Jack: I share with you a nagging concern that Nikki Haley could be a sometime liberal. I'd rejoice if she were elected because it would mean the departure of the antiamerican leftist puppeteers from our White House and she would be an incalculable improvement. But if she is not Maga then we could be right back to the apologetic conservatism so often dealt us by a GOP still uneasy with DJT's visceral connection with the unwashed.

  6. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Gore was very open with his sense of entitlement in 2000.You could hear it in his frantic demeanor on the radio during the debates. He saw an opportunity to steal the election and undo the definitive injustice of his being denied his due and the country bereft of his wisdom. Military absentee votes? Throw 'em out! Naturally he did; he's a dem and the integrity of the process is as nothing to that ilk; a just result excuses ANY method. Besides, 8 years as Hillary's VP would addle anyone.

  7. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Agreed, the creepy "devotion" of the dems to protecting our democracy by criminalizing any doubt of an election they have won, in light of their 2000 expedition condemns their disingenuous outrage then at such . . . well, perfidy! But can we make use of it? They think not; why, witness their minds sorely grieved now by guilt over their impeachment onslaught on DJT since their ox is being gored.

  8. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Elephants and discredited antiamerican leftists never forget . They harbor unlimited consummate hatred for Rudolph Guiliani for demonstrating that proven fundamental dysfunction in cities run by dems can be reversed and a once great city redeemed, by steadfast administration of obvious, common sense measures (eg. criminals bad, law abiding good). They are clearly pledged to hound him unto personal destruction for his rank heresy. An America which should be forever beholding to him must defend him , do all we can to enhance his morale and guarantee him indemnification for any material loss he may suffer at the hands of the viciously vindictive savages of the antiamerican left.He stood for us, at great physical risk; we must stand for him!

  9. Jack, in my humble opinion both parties are in a constant state of flux, and the media environments of the modern age, plus the culture wars, have caused many a Republican and many a Democrat to jump ship. Having said all that, I see ZERO sign that the Dems feel they have traveled too far to the left and need to correct their course to stay viable. Why would they? They keep winning elections!

Correct: if an elite university fires a president, it will be to replace him/her/it with someone who is FARTHER to the left and better at hiding it (in non-academic settings).

Defunding sounds terrific (to me), but even deep red states haven't managed it...yet. Not in any consequential way. I'll believe it when I see it.

I don't understand the Russophobic obsession either. It seems archaic. I do believe it's connected to Trump Derangement Syndrome, however. The choice of nationalist/conservative Russia as a bogeyman is not accidental.

Jack, one of the Dems' main arguments in 2000 was that the Florida results were invalid because the ballot in Palm Beach County confused Dem voters into supporting Pat Buchanan accidentally. I mean, clearly a poorly designed ballot requires the (retrospective) annulment of millions of duly cast votes, right? The cheek of these people knows no bounds.

Agreed: the right needs to stand with and for Rudy, and for Trump, at least in the sense of aiding their legal defense. Precedents are being set that could spell ruin for any and all forms of dissent!

  10. Dr. Waddy from Jack: In 20 years working in state prisons I was disgusted by the presumptuousness, the "cheek", I saw casually manifested by so many criminals. They actually think their viciousness justified, even honorable. The antiamerican left displays very similar disdain and its no wonder it is very popular with felons.
