The Impeachment Anti-Climax

Friends, the impeachment hoax has run its course.  The Democrats worked feverishly to win over the nation, and Republican Congressmen and Senators, to their view that President Trump is a danger to democracy and a corrupt super-villain.  And, to be fair to the Dems, it worked!  They won over exactly one convert: Mitt Romney, the Utah Republican.  He voted to convict the President on the "abuse of power" charge.  So...well done, lefties!  Four years of fanatical Trump hatred and spinning of conspiracy theories, and you managed to capture the hearts and minds of .00000001% of the Republican Party!  Hooray for you!  I trust you have no regrets.

Do you sense a little sarcasm on my part?  Well, after all this hullabaloo, surely I'm entitled to a little fun...

In all seriousness, though, it's instructive to reflect on what the Dems and their media allies accomplished with their smear campaign against the President.  Mainly, they convinced almost half the country that the 2016 election should be cancelled, and the 2020 election should be preempted, because Donald Trump is just that awful.  That's no mean feat.  They also seem to convinced themselves, against all the available evidence, that the GOP could be persuaded to break ranks with a Republican President and remove him from office.  Indeed, the fact that the Dems, including Nancy Pelosi, are so peevish and irate at the moment can mean only one thing: they're frustrated and disappointed.  Many of them believed their own spin, apparently: they really thought they were inches from the end zone, and that Trump's days were numbered.  The campaign against Trump, in other words, worked...on the people who already hated him.  It excited their hatred to a fever pitch unparalleled in American history.  That's no way to remove a President from office, as it turns out, but it sure does create some fireworks along the way...

Consider that Trump's popularity among Republicans is as great as ever.  Consider also that his overall approval ratings are at or near all-time highs.  What this means is that the impeachment hoax either had no effect on Republicans, or it consolidated their support for Trump.  Furthermore, it means that the vanishing "center" in American politics -- those few voters who are persuadable -- were never fully won over to the idea of removing a duly-elected President from office, and many of them, for a wide variety of reasons, believe that Donald Trump is doing a good job.  His chances of winning reelection in 2020, at least according to the polls and betting markets, have never been higher.

Consider too the fate of Joe Biden, the hapless septuagenarian who was the intended victim of Trump's diabolical "scheme" to subvert the 2020 election, according to Democrats.  He finished fourth in the Iowa Caucuses, he's sinking like a stone in New Hampshire polls, and, according to the betting markets, he's now less likely than "Crazy Bernie" Sanders and "Mini-Mike" Bloomberg to emerge as the Democratic nominee.  Is that because of doubts about the venality of the Biden family and its ties to Ukraine?  Only partly, but the fact remains that the Dems circled the wagons to protect the man they thought would be their standard-bearer in 2020, and they achieved nothing of the kind.  Trump is stronger than ever, and Biden is weaker.  That's the political legacy of impeachment, and it isn't pretty for the Dems!

I know many Republicans and conservatives want to believe that, with the impeachment hoax behind us, the Democrats are utterly discredited, and President Trump will thus be a cinch for reelection, and Pelosi will likewise lose her speakership in January 2021.  I'm not so sure.  As President Trump knows better than anyone else, the constant assaults on him, his family, and his administration won't stop because of his acquittal in the Senate.  In fact, the smear campaign won't even slacken or take a short vacation.  In an election year, Democrats will be working more diligently than ever to develop and pursue negative storylines against Donald Trump and Republicans.  If anything, they've only begun to fight!  Will any of their attacks find their mark?  Will they ultimately convince voters in a few key states to reject Trump and embrace a socialist, or a socialist-lite?  It's possible.  That's why, despite our victory on impeachment, we must redouble our efforts to support President Trump and defeat the Democrats -- at the local, state, and national levels -- in November.  Trump has been acquitted, yes, but he's a long, long way from "vindication".  The only vindication that counts, after all, is reelection, and it's not a sure thing.  It's a mere possibility, and it's up to you and me to make sure that America delivers the goods.  The alternative, needless to say, is horrifying and unthinkable.

  1. I seriously doubt the impeachment hoax is behind us. As for the storylines, one can already see this going on/happening. Oh, something tells me Ms. Pelosi and the dems will spring back. It should be interesting to keep an eye on these candidates who are running for the presidency. We, as conservative Americans, must keep an eye on things and an ear to the ground, so to speak. I have a feeling things are really going to get heated up, the deep state is alive and well and no longer underground (thinking Vindman). I am deeply disturbed that there is a movement to bring this presidency down-which comes from deep inside the government. Scary thought(s).

What are your feelings about Bloomberg? Is he really running or is he just throwing money to muck it up?

  2. P.S. What are your thoughts about Nancy Pelosi and tearing up the SOTU papers?

  3. Linda: Just imagine - our yes, human President, reacted with public disdain by having refused a handshake with one who has so excoriated him and his family in very public forums. Oh what blasphemy on his part, not her's of course.

Why, her insensate fury at having been so defied is straight out of the English class dramas on "PBS" so resolutely defended by Pelosi shills."Why, how dare they question me? Why I'm from the cultural nexus of the creditable America - why San Francisco of course"

Her rending of a copy of the speech was the typical reaction of any elitist to any doubt. President Trump's ignoring of her disingenuous handshake offer was an understandable reaction to her aristocratic onslaught on him and his family. Her subsequent tantrum is fully indicative of her airy dismissiveness and her limousine liberal ignorance.

  4. Dr.Waddy: Many well taken points in your essay: I'm reminded of John L. Lewis's saying "They smote me hip and thigh and right merrily did I return their blows". No doubt the consummate hate nakedly displayed by such as Pelosi (for President Trump AND the real America) has inspired the Dem lemmings to ever greater reaches of mindless antipathy. But it has also generated in the real America a grim determination in President Trump's perhaps growing base to meet these people on the electoral battlefield and end their 55 year assault on all that we value.

  5. Dr. Waddy and Linda: There is a hilarious video on line showing a parody Village People group doing "MAGA!" to the tune of"YMCA", with funny caricatures of the President and several Dems. And this suggests a perhaps timely tactic for him in his reelection campaign.Increasingly now, he is in the driver's seat and I know he has the horse sense not to over do it.

One thing fanatics cannot abide is having even gentle fun poked at them. All the leading Dems are insufferably self righteous prigs (except maybe Klobuchar). Talk about a disdainful class system in Britain, these people are avatars of those who actually believed themselves superior in all ways to "the mob". And a downtown man like our President is well suited to taking their measure and toying with them. He suggested that in his victory speech last week and his Trumanesque flaunting of headlines true and imagined.

Saul Alinsky said ridicule is a very powerful political tool. Malcolm X once humiliated opponents at a speech by bidding the audience laugh at them. The present day Dems, in their ever more disgraceful flailing at this formidable President, are begging for such treatment.

We can fully expect that if they lose the election the Dems will go completely bananas. But what if they decide before the election that they have no chance?. The political deluge might come prematurely and we should help it along. There is nothing which discombobulates fanatics more than being mocked. They become downright apoplectic when confronted so, as Madame Pelosi demonstrated in her frantic reply to his insolent reaction to her offer of her cold, cold hand and its cynical disingenuousness. President Trump's campaign should feature generous helpings of sarcastic wit at the expense of the oh so serious left. Maybe they will become so unhinged that they will nominate Van Jones in suicidal ecstasy! Maybe not but then, their certain discomfiture and subsequent hyperbole may still cost them alot of otherwise winnable Congressional seats. The MSM cannot control this medium in reporting such farce.

  6. So many great comments and questions!

Linda, I don't believe that the inquisition is behind us either. The liberal outrage machine is running at maximum RPMs, and I'm certain it will throw out some whoppers between now and November. The truth is, though, that with every cry of horror, the Dem strategy of attacking grows weaker, and the American people develop a thicker skin. Methinks the Dems have already beaten the anti-Trump drum a few thousand too many times...

Bloomberg? He's a candidate like no other. I don't know what to think, frankly. His support in national and Super Tuesday polls has been inching up. And Biden's (imminent?) collapse could be a golden opportunity for him. We'll know he's serious if he starts trashing Buttigieg, because Mayor Pete might be one of the biggest obstacles that remains to him. Sanders too, of course. I've always thought Bloomberg was delusional if he thought the Democratic Party would flock to his colors...but let's be honest: none of the alternatives are looking like sure things.

Personally, I think Trump erred in not shaking Pelosi's hand. Granted, he gave Pence a wide berth too, so his snub was less grandiose than hers. Pelosi behaved with pure churlishness, but no doubt she reasons that her fellow Dems will cheer her, and the rest of the country is used to asininity by now. Probably true. The dirty little secret of the House Dems, of course, is that they've worked well with Trump lately on the USMCA and the budget. Much of their peevishness is thus only for show.

I think Jack is on to something: as the Dems rip each other to shreds, Trump has a rare opportunity to sit back and be presidential. A little gentle mockery of the Dem antics would also be wise. Jack, Alinsky was spot on when it came to mockery. Any Dem candidate who becomes a walking joke will find it very hard to stand up to your and my favorite "hombre".

    1. ...and that is my hope; the president will sit back. I highly doubt he can, although I think he is doing pretty good so far. I am not so sure I could hold back.

  7. Dr. Waddy and Linda: These are heady times. We may well be living through the redemption of our country from at least the governmental and legal curse of the historically discredited left. Many countries have rejected it; we should join the throng. It will take longer at the cultural and educational level but with resolute leadership from our spiritual exemplars and a government able to contain the totalitarian intent of the monumentally presumptuous American left, the real America will prevail.

There is a very hopeful development in this vein at hand right here in South Central and Western NY. Our Congressman Tom Reed ( a rising power I think) has publicly taken to task the administration of (yes, tax payer supported) STATE University of NY at Binghamton for its toleration (which amounts to approval, especially when we consider Comrade Cuomo is giving the orders), of leftist student yegs who attacked gun rights advocates on "their " campus and chased rightist firebrand Dr. Arthur Laffer from the podium. Just think, our tax money supports these incipient Pol Pots! Google "Congressman Tom Reed SUNY Binghamton"
and you will see from him a resolute challenge to the spinelessness of the tax payer paid SUNY Binghamton administration in not denouncing and attacking this totalitarian outrage. Especially under this Presidential administration, FEDERAL funding consequences should be presented to SUNY decision makers (eg. at thoroughly leftist SUNY New Paltz and SUNY Binghsmton) who sympathise with anarchic leftists like those at SUNY Binghamton.Governmental administrators, having the comfortable sinecures they have , are like water, they flow to the point of least resistance. Heretofore, it is the organized left which has provided the most resistance. Tom Reed embodies a counter to that with considerable Federal funding to back him up.

The consummate force embodied in Federal funding is the only thing the left understands. "By any means necessary" is its clarion call and we of the real America ignore this at our existential hazard. Believe these people! They are out to destroy EVERYTHING we value!

  8. Linda, Trump will never -- could never -- "sit back," but he can hold his tongue once in a while, and he can carry on with the business of governing while the Democrats form a circular firing squad. And why not chuckle as they do so? They're a joke of a party, after all.

Jack, you make an excellent point that conservatives and patriots have not yet operated every lever of power that might be effective against the leftist menace. I'm now writing an article about the crackdown on sanctuary cities, but even in Trump's third year in office it's only in its infancy, and there's so much more that could be done. Much depends on the willingness of the Department of Justice and the courts to back up whatever steps Trump takes, and both the DOJ and the courts are steadily falling under our control. That means, in a second term, I think we could see the political, economic, AND legal pressure on the Left and its agents increase dramatically.

  9. Dr. Waddy: That is a very encouraging prospect and today's Olean paper contains an article describing another manifestation of that hopeful development, again with the help of our truly representative Congressman Reed. He joined in Sep't.with five other NY Republican House members in a letter to the Federal Justice Dep't. asking for a Federal determination as to whether the "Green Light Law" in NY violates the Constitution.I certainly think it does in that in requiring the State Motor Vehicle Dep't to deny certain vital information to the Federal Dep't. of Homeland Security it denies NY citizens the equal protection of U.S. Immigration Law. Hurray for Congressman Reed and I urge all to express your support for him directly to him. He can be reached on line and he has many town meetings.

    1. I fully support Reed. What Cuomo and his ilk are doing---disgraceful. So, let me get this right, my enhanced driver's license is pretty much null/void for me to cross over to Canada and back, rightttttttt? SO, why are we being charged $100 for a worthless 'piece of paper' thanks Cuomo for showing your true colors.

  10. Linda: Cuomo is the exemplar of American leftists who believe (with good reason) that they have but to utter and they are believed. And he is the King of Utterers, to the disgrace of so much of our state. And the consequences? They are of less than nothing to him since we are insects. We are an occupied entity, ruled by those whose interests are inimical to ours.I hope that after the election, President Trump will focus federal attention on this Consitutional injustice. Govs Faubus, Barnett,Wallace, they await Cuomo's joining them in their forever disgraced pantheon.

  11. Aww, poor George Wallace! Don't lump him in with Cuomo. No one deserves that kind of abuse. Ha ha.

My understanding is that New Yorkers won't be eligible for special "Trusted Traveler" programs, which is not the same thing as invalidating your enhanced license, Linda. It should still work in airports and at the border.

Apparently Cuomo will be meeting Trump at the White House to discuss the latest flap! Who wouldn't want to be a fly on that wall???

  12. Dr. Waddy: One of the few with the guts to face down our Gov.would be President Trump and I expect him to do so with aplomb! Those '60;s Southern Govs. were blithe to consign whole populations within their states to third class citizenship and so does Cuomo and he deserves thereby to sojourne with them in infamy.
