Kowtowing to the "Black Community" is All the Rage, But Why?

Friends, the image above -- a screenshot of the launch page of the Amazon website -- combines an homage to the Black Lives Matter movement with a sales pitch for shoes.  Believe it or not, it isn't designed to make us retch.  It's designed to position Amazon as a "woke" company that feels the pain of African-Americans.  No, not the African-Americans who are killed by violent criminals or whose homes or businesses have been destroyed by recent unrest.  They can feel their own pain, thank you very much.  We're talking about the blacks who are killed by the police, even if the circumstances were more than a little hazy.  They're the exemplars of "systemic racism" that Amazon, and now seemingly every major corporation and institution, feels they have to acknowledge.  And this begs the question: why does George Floyd (and his ilk) matter, when so little else does to these companies, except making a buck?

My latest article addresses exactly this question.  Check it out at Townhall:

  1. Dr. Waddy: Ditto to the max. Your use of the word "fulsome" is especially appropriate when one considers the smarmy and disingenuous courting of a "black community" which they surely do consider monolithic and of which they consider themselves the patronizing custodians, of such as Pelosi (a limousine liberal who never deign to have her neighborhood, ehh, changed) or ever dismissive Schumer or the liberal factoti in the corporate world of whom you have made note. This serves the ever intended purpose of the American left: which is to promote and exacerbate the very contradictions you have noted in this article. That very many of its promoters are of that totalitarian faction is no surprise.

  2. Dr. Waddy: The American Greatness article was brilliant; thanx for citing it.

  3. Dr. Waddy: Buchanan's article was very perceptive and refreshingly frank but it missed one point, I think. That the hard left sees the police as "racist" and "fascist" (with 90% of its troops incapable of defining those terms in any creditable manner)is only the skin over the sore beneath. The left knows the police are one of the bulwarks of a positive, productive society in our democratic setting ( a setting murderously unacceptable to the dreamily perfectionist American left). The police are the despised very antipathy and essential enemy of the criminal class the left embraces for its "revolutionary consciousness". Want examples? I can give 'em all day from my close contact with self pitying criminals and their embrace of leftist lures, like so many trout! The destruction of the police is a prime goal of the American left in its continuing campaign to dissolve and then reorganize on its totalitarian model, our America.

  4. Jack: did you see the picture of the Congressional Dems taking a knee in the rotunda (or somewhere similar) with Kente cloth around their necks? Talk about self-abasement! The leftists are now literally genuflecting to the gods of anti-racism. Of course, they also look ridiculous, and it's no surprise that they've already been criticized for "appropriating" both the kneeling and the Kente cloth. No matter -- they'll find a way of groveling double-time in future!

Jack: you are so right that the project of the Left REQUIRES, while not the destruction of the police, their reimagining and their utter subordination to left-wing ideology. Just as the Left wants to purify the academy, our popular culture, corporate America, etc etc. of all conservatives, patriots, or even critical thinkers, they want to do the same to the police and the military, who have ultimate responsibility for enforcing order in any society. Once the liberals control those who have a monopoly on the legitimate use of force, and once they disarm and terrify the rest of us, it's game over.

  5. Dr. Waddy: I'm going to presume to make this comment here, though it probably belongs with your last post. Today's news says the Cuomo "Legislature" passed measures criminalizing "biased access to emergency services". Now of course we know that statutory language is in NO WAY subject to subsequent construction, judicial or administrative or presumptuous (in the form of fearful middle managers seeking to avoid censure or worse), especially in the Byzantine "Empire State" and the basilisk gaze of its dictator/"Governor". Oh NO!

I can just see it: "(911 here, now first tell me what is your race and what is the race of your putative antagonist? I'm sorry but you are not due protection and the politically correct status of the one you unjustly attack mandates your arrest instead".

Absurd you say? Consider an advanced country like the UK where a much invaded and assaulted farmer was imprisoned for having finally used force against the barbarians. Too, the government, with its unlimited financial resources, funded the thugs in their lawsuit on the farmer for, oh who the hell cares? It CAN happen, it did and its coming to our country and never more obviously than today!

  6. Dr. Waddy:Thanx for your reply.Oh yeah, I saw them posturing and preening. I'd love to hear Shelby Foote's reaction.

They will never relent, never regret. They live in a hermetically sealed world wherein such insect buzzing is dealt with in summary fashion.

  7. Dr. Waddy: Not SHELBY Foote - sorry. I meant the author of the Content of Our Character

  8. Dr. Waddy: I can see that this "bias" law may also address placement of emergency services which is judged reflective of "bias". As usual, statistical inequities alone will be the deciding factor plus a generous helping of "biased" intent in the law itself. I haven't read the law yet; I'm speculating but that's not hard to do where hard left institutions like NY State government are involved.Of course the left sees nothing amiss in the dismal pandemic stats so obvious in leftist states.

Chick Fil A (?) is being castigated for offering unendurably blasphemous "Back the Blue" t shirts. Look for imminent proposition of laws in places like NY to criminalize such insolence. The institutionalization of political correctness advances apace.

  9. Jack, you're absolutely right: the Left considers it positive proof of systemic racism that blacks are arrested and imprisoned at higher rates than whites. The obvious solutions? Empty the prisons, or rap the police over the knuckles until they stop disturbing black criminals in the midst of their daily rounds... It's already happening, to a point. It can and will get worse.

  10. Dr. Waddy: Your proposal is not hyperbolic in its satire of leftist intent. I had contact with people in the NY State Dep't of Corrections who considered all criminals to be , by definition, VICTIMS! This is utter madness but there is massive precedent for it in the 20th century so we must not rule out a supreme effort on the part of a lamentably influential faction of our polity which is quite recognizable even second in line to the Presidency, to force it on the real America. Civil war is a real possibility, political (well, that's already joined!), administrative (in NY and CA, and the state run Academy, its here) and God forbid, if the left pushes us yet too far, in more decisive settings. Let us prevent that at the ballot box in November, though of course we may expect a destructive reaction from the left should they lose then. But we can handle that just as we did after Nov. 2016. Their Achilles heel is their essential capture by emotion above all. And canny players like Donald Trump can game that like a trout on a line.

  11. That's a great topic for discussion, Jack: the Left's Achilles heel. We're spoiled for choice, but I think it might be internecine squabbling and intolerance... Letting the perfect be the enemy of the good, in other words.

  12. Excellent comments Jack! I for one, done with pandering to the BLM and ANTIFA and the dems. Enough is enough.
