Half the Country is Rooting for the Virus...But We're Beating It Anyway

Good news, friends!  First, I'm back in action here at WaddyIsRight!  Who knew someone on vacation could be so busy, huh?  Second, we're seeing more and more evidence that the lifting of lockdowns all over America (and the Western world) is NOT producing disaster, as leftists predicted, and as they continue to predict.

Georgia, for example, is doing just fine, despite getting back to normal at a rapid clip that disturbed even President Trump:

https://theweek.com/articles/915446/should-grateful-good-news-georgia

Meanwhile, the CDC is admitting that the disease is far less deadly than initially claimed, and for people under 65 without serious health problems, it seems probable that lightning strikes and car accidents are a greater threat:

https://www.conservativereview.com/news/horowitz-cdc-confirms-remarkably-low-coronavirus-death-rate-media/

Lastly, here's a thought-provoking article on the toll that the lockdowns are taking on our collective humanity:

https://thefederalist.com/2020/05/22/our-coronavirus-response-is-making-us-lose-our-humanity/

Personally, though, I'm optimistic, because, despite the doom and gloom that the media is spewing, most people are getting back to normal life.  Common sense, in other words, is prevailing.  Only a Democrat could be chagrined at the sight of young people cavorting in the sunshine, but these gloomy Guses are losing out.  They were hoping that they could keep us cowed and cowering indefinitely.  Not so!

Oh, and I almost forgot the best news of all.  In the whole history of humanity, only three nations have developed the capacity to send men into space: the U.S., Russia, and China.  Well, next week you can add a corporation to the list: SpaceX.  President Trump will be there to witness the feat.  Keep in mind that our country has been INCAPABLE of manned space flight since 2011, thanks to you-know-who.  This is a huge step forward, for America and for private sector space exploration.

  1. No one is rooting for the virus. That's just plain irresponsible to say. Dr. Waddy, you are better than that!

You must be a Democrat? Am I right? No pun intended.

    2. Yes, no one is rooting for this virus.

  2. Dr. Waddy and Rod: It is not irresponsible to propose that the left, including the MSM, has acted in consummate bad will and bad faith in this crisis; the salient manifestations of that have been discussed at length in many credible settings, including this blog. It is obvious that it harbors high hopes for decisive political benefit, the indispensable defeat of President Trump, from this chaotic windfall. Naturally the more prolonged the dysfunction, or the perception of it, the more advantage the left expects to garner. To say it wishes for this end is very plausible, I think.

  3. Dr. Waddy and Rod: The American left has, over the last fifty and especially the last three years, confirmed its determination to achieve complete power by any means. That is of course consistent with the world history of the left. This view can be argued on both sides with honor and Dr. Waddy has, I think, done just that. I fully agree with him and look to further discussion.

  4. Jack, you do have a penchant for hyperbole!

Most liberals -- and a majority of independents -- want Trump defeated. But that does not mean anyone is rooting for the virus.

What the news media are doing is pointing out what a disaster Trump has been in overseeing this crisis. As of this morning, 8 countries have higher per capita deaths than we do. There are 152 countries that have lower per capita deaths. For a country with one of best medical systems in the world, that's embarrassing!

I don't see Trump overseeing this crisis. What I see is 50 different little "dictators" of 50 different little "sovereign" states overseeing this crisis. Also, if we have one of the best medical system in the world, why is it that we are not doing all that well? The bottom line is that we were obviously not very well prepared for this pandemic, which we would have been if we really had one of the best medical system in the world. Also, most of that media you speak of is decidedly to the left and very much against Trump no matter what he does. With that said, what is your exact point?

  5. Dr. Waddy: Since the American left has been blithe to direct all manner of calumny at both our President and his policies it must expect the real America to take off the gloves too, though of course it will bleat; it regularly dishes out the dirt but it cannot abide being its consequent recipient. The poor dears. Remember lefties, it was your darling Alinsky who lauded ridicule as an effective measure; too bad!

To that end: I read and galdly cite Jay Ambrose's assertion that Cuomo "insisted nursing homes let virus carriers in with especially vulnerable patients and more than 5000 have died". Gee, is it possible he did so knowing it provides statistics which would enable him to prolong his dictatorial grip on NY state? Oh horrors! Let the left squack in futility about such speculation; it has so coarsened and degraded the political dialogue in America that it retains no moral authority to object on principles of decency unseen in its own conduct. To object, the left must employ reason and or empirical evidence. Oh but yeah, there are many whose minds will close simply have heard the accusation, yes. My my but the left should recognize this cynical tactic; its right out of their book. What pleasure it is to see them confronted with their own brand of amorality!

  6. Dr. Waddy: the Horowitz article heralds bad news a'comin for the left. They have been slavering over the prospect of using the present crisis to fast track and provide much persuasive ground, no matter how tenuous(because after all, it is them saying it; them, the irrefutablely correct) , for their summary and totalitarian intentions in combating the (gasp!) understood certainty of environmental immolation. Just as WWII government expansion carried over into post war, so do they seek a similar benefit now. Paired with the defeat of the despised Trump and the expected capture of the judiciary, they would be sitting pretty, yes? Andrew Cuomo, the most obvious of those seeking political advantage from the present catastrophe, cannot for long be expected to refrain from making his move in this regard in his fief of NY.

  7. Rod: I regularly employ barogue wording, in large part because I am a ham and your noting this is very plausible. I would note that the left often employs similar excess (eg ."The War on Women") but I know from previous posts you are not a reflexive leftist.

  8. Rod: I would suggest that US stats in this regard are decisively effected by those of the contagion on the Hudson and its faithfully disdainful son, Cuomo (that city should be the Hong Kong of the US - tolerated but kept at arm's length). And I'm certain that were I to contract the virus I would rejoice to be cared for in this country (the WHO's politically compromised and dated evaluation of our medical system being completely discredited).

  9. Looking on the "bright side" of this pandemic, in many ways it has brought people together, at least families. This is true of high density areas such as Los Angeles where some of my close friends live, and not just in the more thinly populated part of the country where I live. People are out walking more, eating at home instead of going to restaurants even with drive throughs open, and home schooling their children although with some reluctance in certain cases. In general I would say that traditional families are closer together. Of course I also realize there is a dark side to all this with unemployment, although people are also collecting unemployment pay, plus loss of homes and so on. I'm sure the divorce rate has also risen, although many marriages were on the rocks anyway. In addition, slow down of travel by car and plane helped clean up the environment a bit. I'm not hoping for a return for the virus by any means, but it did produce some positive results.

  10. Looking on the dark side of this pandemic, it was mismanaged by a bunch of fool politicians with a lot of axes to grind, to include Trump. Had it been conducted in an apolitical manner, medical professionals would have been deferred to across the country, from county and state health departments on up to the federal government level. Instead, people with no medical training whatsoever, except with an ability to pass gas through their mouths, got involved in a pissing contest with each other. Damn all of them!

  11. God Bless The American people! God damn the stinking elites both right and left who hold The American people in such contempt, and bondage.

This is my last post on this site. It's been real. I won't have the time anymore. Best of luck to you Dr. Waddy. Take care Jack.

  12. Dr. Waddy: Pish tosh! Too much optimism on your part. Don't you know we have reached 100,000 deaths? We haven't yet but we have nonetheless because the NYT says so.Also, Hillary beat Trump in the electoral college. Could it be that the MSM's eagerness to reach this milestone made them, well, overeager? Why, can it be that their enthusiasm stems from their certainty that this tragic total will yield great benefit to that side to which they are so devoted, the left? Is it not unseemly but yet completely characteristic of their viciously opportunistic approach to this crisis?

  13. Dr. Waddy: Yet another development, along with the ones you have documented in this post: President Trump's demand that state governments refrain from discouraging in any way the free exercise of religion. That faith is one of the foundation stones
of America is fully recognized by the American left and they are determined to use this opportunity to attack it in their relentless campaign to destroy our country and replace it with Marxist hell. The President perceives this intent on their part and I rejoice at the confrontation with which he presents them!

The left sniffs that he has no authority in this (?!)Uh, his oath enjoined him to support the Constitution, the First Amendment of which confirms that prevention of the free exercise of religion will not be tolerated. So he has the authority. Yes, the courts may eventually enable him but he has the authority also to federalize the state national guard in any state and to command it to defend the First Amendment with whatever force necessary. So, he HAS authority and the power to enforce it.Just as the President ordered Federal troops to enforce Constitutionally mandated access to public schools for all in the South, President Trump may so guarantee the religious rights of the faithful to physical access to their places of worship and can override presumptuous dictates of leftist Governors to the contrary. I hope his demand promises this action and is just the first of many such on his part.

Morale is a hugely significant factor in enduring crisis and the American left is determined to make maximum use of this pandemic situation to create in a decisive portion of the electorate a sense of doom which will direct it to their loving arms in November. It fears a return to economic integrity enabled by a reprise of common sense since their premier argument in the Presidential campaign will be "why its the economy, stupids (ooops) and look who is in charge of it; its his fault!" "Better put us in charge, as we still are in 'progressive' states".

That baldly leftist, incipient totalitarians like Cuomo and Newsom would seize this opportunity to "learn" insolent First and Second Amendment "fanatics" their place in the coming new order is to be expected. President Trump knows this and he is fighting our fight against the forces of opportunistic dissolution, anarchy and consequent tyranny.

  14. Rod has a point -- not all Democrats are genocidal maniacs. Some are just regular maniacs. Ha ha. I jest, but of course I exaggerated in saying half the country is rooting for the virus, but Rod, let me put it to you this way: when many red states began reopening, and liberals cried foul, what outcome do you think many of them were hoping for? That the swift reopenings would work out fine, and death rates would shrivel into nothingness? No, I honestly think that many leftists relish the death tolls, especially in red states, because they view them as the ultimate condemnation of Trumpism and Republican rule. I say "ultimate," but next month Trump's greatest outrage of all time will be something new. The Left is nothing if not inventive. But Rod, while I concede the reasonableness of your objection, I've met more than a few lefties who seem to take pleasure in this debacle, and who openly express a desire for Republicans and conservatives to die of COVID-19. It's not all in my head.

As for the idea that our per capita death rates are in the top 15 countries, so clearly 185 countries are better run than we are -- give me a break! So your view is that we need to emulate the public health authorities and superior medical services of Burkina Faso, Bolivia, and Myanmar? YOU are better than that, Rod. Many circumstances have produced what are, for now, unusually high death rates in the West. A year from now the rates may well be higher in the developing world. We'll see...but one thing is for sure: TRUMP is not the reason why so many have died in the U.S. The so-called experts told Trump for months that the virus posed no great threat to the U.S. When they turned out to be wrong, he followed almost all the advice of those same experts -- much of it bad, in the sense that we have clearly over-reacted to a virus that isn't nearly as deadly as first claimed. I fault Trump for giving the establishment most of what it has asked for, in the "war" on COVID-19, including extreme lockdown measures and irresponsible spending. I don't fault him for the fact that 100,000 Americans have died of an unanticipated and nasty disease, any more than I fault Obama for the tens of millions of Americans who died of natural causes when he was President.

Ray, are you really headed for the exits? I hope not. We would miss you.

Jack, I'm glad to see President Trump come to the defense of churches as well. All throughout America, alcohol and marijuana have been declared "essential", while religion is apparently frivolous. The Founders would be mortified!

Ray, I'm glad to hear that many of your family members have strengthened their family ties in response to the virus. As usual, any crisis is a test of character. Good people are fortified in their goodness. Bad people will degenerate into scoundrels. Overall, I think we'll find that, in a few months time, remarkably little has changed in America -- and politically absolutely nothing will have changed, in the sense that we will still be divided into two hostile, ideologically incompatible camps. And the 2020 election, I predict, will still be mighty close.

  15. I am really dismayed that Cuomo is still keeping the lie going about the nursing home mandate (I realize your not talking about this).

Its all about the blue states and keeping the people in check. You see that with the current sad state of affairs; the looters, the riots and so on. The greater question is WHO is paying these folks? You see its only the blue states that have the riots going on etc. I am afraid I happen to agree with you Dr. Waddy (and Jack and Ray). We will be divided into two hostile ideologically incompatible camps.

  16. Linda, as long as many media tycoons and politicians can profit from our divisions, you can bet they will persist (and grow). Sad to say, but even riots are "good for business" for some...
