Hit the Road, Dems!

Friends, it's no secret that 2018 offers Republicans a lot of pickup opportunities in the U.S. Senate.  No fewer than 10 Democratic Senators are running for re-election in states that Trump won in 2016.  Now we know that four Democratic Senators running for re-election in deeply red states -- Joe Donnelly in Indiana, Claire McCaskill in Missouri, Jon Tester in Montana, and Heidi Heitkamp in North Dakota -- are voting no on the confirmation of soon-to-be Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.  These Senators are betraying not only the voters of their respective states, but the basic principles of American justice and universal decency, not to mention the traditions of the Senate itself.  It's time for them to go.  My latest article makes that case.

  1. Dr. Waddy: It would be nice to see civility restored to the Senate but its impossible as long as Dems retain any power to disrupt. The only solution is to relegate them to shrill futility in the visitors' gallery. A GOP advance in that direction in November could bring us closer to that necessity. In my opinion, the GOP is released from any moral obligation to pay respect to a possible future SCOTUS nomination by a Dem President.

  2. I agree, Jack, if you mean that no Republican Senator need feel obliged to VOTE for a SCOTUS nominee chosen by a liberal Democrat. We conservatives, though, don't need hysterics or false charges to validate our decisions. We would, I suspect, merely state our case the old fashioned way.

I also agree that the mere existence of today's Democratic Party is incompatible with a healthy Western democracy. The Left and its enablers need to undergo some serious self-examination, and the wingnuts need to be purged.

  3. Dr. Waddy: I agree we must not do what the Dems did, and reflexively, especially this time. What I'd do if I were a future GOP minority leader is, I'd say to the Dems " We can assume your nominee will be a partisan leftist once on the court no matter what euphemisms he or she may express. That political viewpoint runs counter to all we value and we will then, certainly oppose him or her". The GOP unwisely paid Clinton and Obama's nominees a deference, due to the nominees having been a President's choice and a perceived tradition of respect for a President's preference, which the Dems have long since abandoned and for which they have only withering contempt. In my opinion, we now owe them nothing but lawfulness and we would be spineless to voluntarily afford them any other advantage in the future. They are dishonorable unprincipled and dedicated to our destruction and we must face that reality squarely and without illusion. We followed the rules of war and of triumph in fighting the great dictatorships in the 20th century but we fought to win and we must do it again in combating the existential threat the far left dominated Dems present. Our national life depends on it, I think.

Ditto, ditto, ditto on your comment about the Dems threat to our democracy. Today a commentator said"Trump has a way of getting people to reveal themselves". He does and I think its a sign of a canny player, which he is. The Dems have had the lala landers at their very core since the '70's; in accordance with Alinsky's tenets, they hadn't planned to let them bustle until their dominance was assured but they let the Donald get under their skin. So many frantically self righteous types are that way and a Trump knows how to jerk their chains.

  4. Jack, the leftist true believers get more unhinged every day. At some point, we might need to think of it as a public health crisis -- and I'm half serious!

I agree with you that, under present circumstances, any Republican Senator voting for a Supreme Court nominee chosen by, say, an Obama or a Clinton would be doing America, the Constitution, and the rule of law a disservice. A left-leaning judge is one thing -- but an anti-law judge is quite another!

  5. Dr. Waddy: That's a good idea; I'd get the Surgeon General to planning it now. They have tried to portray lawful gun owners as a threat - let them be hoisted on their own petards. Maybe I'm manifesting leftist style presumption in saying this but I think a left leaning judge is by definition antilaw. But then, I enjoy listening to Alan Dershowitz. I wonder how long it will take Harvard Law to disown him though.

  6. Alan Dershowitz may claim to be a "liberal," but I'm pretty sure most liberals disowned him a long time ago!

Agreed -- a fair-minded, rational leftist judge is, under present circumstances, an impossibility.

It's a fair question how many Trump-haters could be classified as neurotic or delusional, as opposed to just asinine. We need an exhaustive study!

  7. Dr. Waddy: Rand Paul and his wife expressed legitimate concern about the increasing possibility of lethal physical violence being directed at conservatives by extremists inspired by the likes of Maxine Waters, Al Sharpton and now, Hillary. She made a notable statement, containing a credibly implied threat, yesterday and it is as one with similar spoken threats I witnessed prison inmates try many times:I.E." Because the GOP wishes to destroy what we stand for (fair enough, we do, though her ilk would not admit to what they have nonetheless clearly demonstrated they "stand for") we need not be civil to them. 'Course we will be if the electorate reembraces common sense and returns us to our rightful place in charge".

This is vintage gangsterism expressed none too subtly by a proven thug. I could see the antifa types saying "gee, maybe she means it and she'll call us off if the Dems win, we'd better get it out of our system now". We'll probably hear more from Hillary on the royal progress through the provinces which is the Clintons' gift to us this election season.

  8. Jack, Hillary is a disgrace, but I didn't see a call to violence, per se, anywhere in her remarks. The journey from paranoia and incivility to violence is, admittedly, a short one, especially for people who are already unstable. The Dems are playing with fire, for sure.

  9. Dr. Waddy: Your comments are very plausible.
