Friends, views certainly differ on the new security agreement that the U.S. has reached with Denmark and Greenland. Some say it will guarantee American hegemony permanently and at little cost to the USA. Others say that there was already plenty of security cooperation with the Danes and Greenlanders, and never much prospect of a Russian or Chinese conquest of Greenland. I'll let you decide for yourselves.

Greenland was one of several topics that DJT covered during his big speech at the UN today. He also threatened Iran with "annihilation", as per usual, but also expressed optimism that a deal will be struck, also as per usual. He's probably right, though, that the regime might come back to the table after the midterms, after which they (wrongly) assume that the Democrats will be in power and able to help them out. The Dems may well be in control of Congress, but Congress will have precious little ability to influence our conflict with Iran.

Dr. Waddy: The North Vietnamese rightly perceived in the extensive far leftist organized dissent in the US an America much divided in its support for the war. And it gave them very much encouragement as they faced American firepower and stuck to their prime purpose, the forceful subjugation of S. Vietnam to by definition totalitarian Marxism.
ReplyDeleteSimilarly the seating of a US Congress devoted to subversion of our war effort, might well encourage the Iranian regime to hold on and give fatal pause to those Iranians waiting for a chance to overthrow their oppressors. Being a true democracy, the US has a demonstrated history of doctrinal changes which lead to it rescinding its support for movements which have placed ALL their faith in us. A DSA America hating Congress would do its best to "assure"the Iranian neomedievalists that they may well still be able to continue their tyrannical rule and their fantastic dreams of terrorizing modern civilization.

Ray : From what I've read of Marx I would guess he would regret only Marxism's failure and present abomination among civilized people and not the almost fantastic injustice he inspired. He was the prototypical amoral , bigoted , heartless , well, Marxist .
ReplyDeleteHe might have been surprised that the imposition of his doctrine manifested as much murder and living hell as it did but he would have shrugged it off and said "well, try again" I think he would have approved of what I regard as marxism's demonstrated essential Jew hatred and he would have supported the annihilation of the State of Israel. His tract on the Jewish "question" embraced the libel of the Jew as fundamentally venal and therefore a pillar of the bourgeoisie. I wonder if his screed would have developed had he never lived? German 19th century thinking may have made it probable.
Dr. Waddy: Well, today PM Netanyahu courageously takes the podium in the very same "forum" disgraced by many who wish his very death and the utter physical destruction of Israel! Possibly many of them will pusillanimously "boycott" him as well as probably will the pipsqueak Marxist Jew hating "Dear Leader" of NYC, the home of myriad Jewish citizens in what was once a haven for them. The PM will, with head held high, hazard his entrance to a city degraded beyond measure by its empowerment of that incipient totalitarian and his opportunistic use of ICC dictum to "justify" calling for the PM's arrest.

I think Israel deserves some well considered and well intended constructive negative criticism. BUT! In no way does it deserve the terribly intense antipathy directed at it in a world full of injustices. I think that amounts to a continuation of the relentless abomination of "antisemitism" , which takes its place with the worst of the infamies, historically and some presently, forced on humans by other humans.

Some of them stayed, in sullen juvenile snit, to express their hostility with contemptuous silence at his every point. He noted their "moral cowardice" and proceeded with dignity and defiance to cast their displeasure back in their scowling visages.
His salient theme was that Israel cannot , will not, shrink from defending itself because it has no choice; the only alternative is the physical extermination of his nation. "The days when Jews were defenseless victims marched to slaughter are over!" "We stand against barbarians who threaten our commonly held civilization"
He termed demonstrators against Israel, some of them clearly antisemitic too, "phony human rights defenders" because of the restraint they show concerning Iranian oppression. In an objective and well balanced history of the Arab-Israeli conflict I read recently the author held that much of the unrelentingly vicious hatred directed at assertive Judaism is attributable to outrage exacerbated by resentment of Jewish uppityness (my term) "We in Israel do not wait for them to wake from their moral slumber." Dr. Waddy: PM Netanyahu proceeded to declare this "a war for truth" made even more challenging by modern social media. He accused oil rich Qatar of massive funding of anti Israel expression at American "universities" and noted that Turkey under Erdogan is fast becoming Israel's open enemy.
ReplyDeleteIn response to condemnation of Israel for "genocide" in Gaza he asked Israel's reflexive prosecutors: what genocidal regime gives vaccinations, food and much humanitarian aid to those innocents ravaged by Israel's unavoidable determination to root out detestable Hamas from their midst? A Fox commentator noted that an internationally recognized American expert on urban warfare has asserted that "Israel has done more to spare civilian casualties than any other country in history".
The Prime Minister dwelt on the grim truth that in response to Oct. 7 Israel has striven to prevent genocide , its own! He recalled the Six Day War , when Israel faced imminent invasion by several Arab powers convinced that they now had the means to eradicate Israel. (They were led by Egypt's Nasser , who had recently declared that with victory he would deport all foreign born Israeli Jews and that the native born would "cease to exist"). He noted the stark danger of extermination Israel faced in the Yom Kippur War in '73 ( in which he fought and when Israel prepared to use its valedictory "Samson" strategy with its nuclear arsenal, against all of Israel's tormentors). The PM mentioned , just by the by, that merely two of the thousands of missiles Iran has launched against Israel would level the "UN" complex in which they were seated.
I would ask of any who support the destruction of Israel: did monstrous Germany and Japan face actual complete
physical annihilation of their populations ?! Why then Israel?
BTW, I am not Jewish and I do hold that Israel must someday when it is not facing a new Holocaust do justice to those Palestinian Arabs who have been innocent victims of the foundation of Israel . So too should those nations which have cynically prevented assimilation of Palestinian Arabs into their countries and used them as pawns against Israel and much of the civilized world. I grew up in a neighborhood with a significant Jewish population and experienced much of Judaism's glorious and exemplary culture. The courageous perseverance of Judaism is of a direct kinship with the most trying resistances against unrelenting oppression historically displayed by many ethnic groups , nationalities and races.
PM Netanyahu presented a , yes, sublime example of "unconquerable constancy" (Churchill's words) and high civilization in his firm defiance of his low life detractors. He gave his insect , microbe critic Comrade Mamdani a right old hiding. He delighted in scolding that punk in his own captured dictatorship, by taunting him for his toothless promise to enforce the ICC's professionally bereft indictment of him
PM Netanyahu discharged his patriotic duty with eloquent resolve in that largely and shamefully disdainful setting! Good for him, his country and world civilization.
Dr. Waddy: I think the departure of the apparent majority of delegates from the hall when PM Netanyahu rose to speak was a very telling affirmation of the "UN" s essential and vicious bigotry and its countenance of murderous hate enacted in it.

Dominant power in the hands of just and civilized countries is reaffirmed by this failure as the only guarantor of the well being of humanity. Human irrationality , though painfully mitigated by history ,is still our curse in this proven hard old world. Amoral, venal monsters will persist in their unapologetic evil and must be contained for now against a time when maybe, just maybe, we grow up.
Dr. Waddy: How could any reasonable person gainsay the PM's observation that Hamas' depraved savagery on Oct. 7 fully predicts what it and others of similarly atavistic barbarian mien would do to all Israeli Jews, just for starters that is, had they the power.!? Detached "American" critics like Comrades Mamdani , Piker and El Sayed frivolously pontificate on the tactics Israel was constrained to use in destroying a Hamas which had forcefully and cynically esconsed itself deep within the everyday settings of Gazan life. They employ the same "reasoning" in denouncing American opposition to Islamist aggression. In consideration of the many closed minds to which he was speaking in that hall the PM took the trouble to point out the obvious conclusion on the part of unrelentingly existentially threatened Israel , of the grim necessity always in Israeli minds , that they fully expect such brain dead ruthlessness from those powers which besiege them. Its an ever present , ubiquitous reality for Israel and the PM described it faithfully. Daily reminders of the ancient abomination of vicious disdain for Jews , reaffirmed in technologically, doctrinally intensified and astonishing horror in the 20th century, is , I think, the theme of Israeli life and is maybe unprecedented and unequaled in this yet pitiless world.
