Friends, John Cornyn, who is in the fight of his life to hang on to his Senate seat, has just made a big about-face: he's decided he will accept limits on the filibuster in order to get the SAVE Act passed, which would mandate voter ID throughout the country. Will this dramatic turn of events save the SAVE Act? Not necessarily, because overturning the filibuster is darn tough, but maybe the Republican Senate can finesse the issue, i.e. keep the filibuster but drill a few more holes in it? We shall see. One thing is fairly clear: Cornyn's real objective is to save himself...from Ken Paxton, his formidable challenger. Paxton has cannily offered to concede the primary election to Cornyn if the SAVE Act gains Senate passage. Now, would the bill have the sweeping implications for U.S. elections that Republicans and Democrats seem to assume it would? I mean, the GOP acts as if the bill is a magic bullet that can eliminate fraud and basically kneecap the Democratic Party. The Dems, by contrast, talk as though the bill will make it virtually impossible for women and minorities to vote. Voter ID has done nothing of the kind anywhere that it's been passed, but no matter. I suspect both parties are engaging in more than a little hyperbole, but the only way to know for sure is...to pass the bill! Why not? It would be a fun experiment!

Dr. Waddy from Jack: It makes very much sense to assume that the far left/Dems see passage of the Safe Act only as a harrowing threat to their political viability. Its no threat to women or minorities voting rights, nor is it meant to be and the far left/Dems know it. But they have no credibility or moral authority in "standing" for the fairness of our elections. Their encouragement and enablement of a massive invasion of illegal immigrants, in large part to increase their electoral power and their House delegation, is telling proof of their determination to use "any means necessary" to win elections, at least as long as they as they are constrained to endure elections.
ReplyDeleteCornyn is doing America a signal service by his reversal. I think either Paxton or Cornyn would represent Texas well but if this gains the nomination for Cornyn , we are still ahead.I think it highly unlikely that Texas would elect a far left/Dem who thinks he can ride a perceived groundswell of job opportunities for virtue signaling radicals. He would be most eager to aid in forcing Texas into the Procrustean bed of socialism and incipient totalitarianism by misrepresenting it before the nation. His reckless opinions so far expressed give unmistakeable promise of much worse if he were to be elected. If Cornyn saves the Safe Act, I think Texans will reward him for it.
Dr, Waddy from Jack: The bombing of a school in Iran , with the deaths of approx. 170 mostly children , is being widely attributed to the U.S.
ReplyDeleteConsequent mass demonstration in Iran in protest has not met with the regime's customary "intolerance" so we can be very sure that it meets the regime's exacting approval and that the neo medieval theocratic elite yet fully intends to use the incident for maximum modern propaganda purpose. It is hard to imagine who they hope to influence thereby, aside from the very compliant "American" far left/ dems who are as usual eager to castigate their country; the Iranian regime is otherwise deservedly and extensively held pariah before the world.
As a parent I see the event as an indescribably poignant, appallingly tragic and incalculably unfortunate event. If it is the fault of America or even if not, we should express sincere shock , intense regret and condolences , free of political comment, to the parents but not to the regime. It is the atavistically and vindictively savage Iranian Inquisition , which has, with deadly certain purpose, carried out indiscriminate bombing of residential areas in Israel , with no provisions for the sparing of Israeli children, for decades, either directly or through its obsequious and detestably Jew hating terrorist auxiliaries closer to and within Israel. And no, touchy feelies , I am not opining moral equivalence, just fact.
IT IS EMPHATICALLY NOT America's way to deliberately target schools with children within. It IS the policy of terrorists , who have nothing but dead wood inside of them, to use schools as hiding places for weapons and for their murderous cadre. Ask the Israeli Defense Forces about that.
The Iranian regime is no doubt counting on the "American" far left to make a signal issue of this in order to discredit the entire war effort against the America and Jew hating mullahs. They know all about how the murderous N.Vietnamese made cynical , disingenuous and decisive misuse of multitudinous tragically myopic ingrate American brats. Some of those still shockingly and unapologetically juvenile overidealists are still doddering around in hopes of redeemingly nostalgic America hating delights. And of course their MSM friends can be counted upon to carry on the Dan Rather tradition of negatively misrepresenting American tactics and practices .
Hello Jack of School Bombing.
DeleteThough I agree with all your points above, it pains me to see this comment in Dr. Waddy's "Saving the SAVE Act?" post.
If anything, the Save Act is being drowned out by other competing (yet maybe important) topics just like the content appearing in this post.
To that I say to Leader Thune, and the other influential Senators... "GET FOCUSED"!
I am tempted, but will not postulate here on the motivations and probabilities of the Iranian regime being involved in the bombing of school children.
Rather, how 'bout we just focus on the "HOW" to get this act passed!
WHY is this so hard?
Dr. Waddy from Jack: So now California's latest gift to the nation, disdainful Sen. Adam Schiff ,is much exercised that combat veteran Secretary of War Hegseth has actually expended money from the taxpayers for whom Schiff's party has such long standing proven sympathy , for occasional steak and lobster for the troops. Oh, my my!Can't he find another cause among the many subversive alternatives he entertains?
ReplyDeleteMy experience , aboard a sweltering , crowded, insanely noisy and potentially explosive aircraft carrier in the Tonkin Gulf off of Vietnam, was that we enjoyed the occasional provision of steak and/or lobster as a morale building interval in our 24/7 watches with no days off. Can Sen. Schiff offer similarly informative experience? But Sec. Hegseth can: worse, far worse than mine. But oh, always upset Rep. Crockett joins Schiff in his uncontainable outrage at this atrocity! Well!!
Jack, like you I don't much care why Cornyn has changed his stripes. I'm just glad he has. I find him quite satisfactory as a Senator, and he probably is the Republican most likely to win, so that's a big mark in his favor.
ReplyDeleteJack, like you I believe it's important to see the forest for the trees. The accidental bombing of a school by the U.S. is an aberration, as everyone knows. The targeting of civilians is normal practice for Iran and its fellow travelers in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iraq, etc etc. Iran is rubbing in our face, in fact, its willingness to target anyone and everyone, and the media turns a blind eye to this indiscriminate aggression? Outrageous!
Richie, nice to hear from you again! I share your frustration at the difficulties Congressional Republicans are having in passing the SAVE Act, or indeed anything of consequence. While I understand the sentimental attachment to the filibuster, I think it's time to admit that 1) the filibuster has been on the way out now for some time, and 2) it would not survive five minutes if the Dems took the Senate and felt that it would be expedient to end it. If the SAVE Act would have the consequential impact on American elections that both parties allege -- and to me that's a big "if" -- then by all means let's get on with it and pass it.
Those who risk their lives for our country can enjoy steak and lobster at every meal, as far as I'm concerned, although it might not be the best thing for their physical fitness, so maybe just once a day!
Richie from Jack: Doc Waddy has said it is ok to digress from the subject(s) he comments upon . Even though he sets a vigorous pace in his wide ranging observations ,sometimes developments are so closely coincident that it is convenient to append comments on other subjects , which often generate further dialogue.
ReplyDeleteI fully agree: focus on saving the Save Act is indispensable. Probably a good chance that the far left/ Dems are striving to create as much distraction as possible by, for example, their shameful blocking of DHS funding.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: A book entitled Scoundrel Time reportedly lamented the hazards to which domestic commies were put in the '50s.
ReplyDeleteThe term should be reassigned to the execrable use of parliamentary bad will to block DHS funding. DHS!!And that in time of war with a power which makes routine use of terrorist tactics!
Oh but we are a"fascist dictatorship" according to our hyperbolic opposition bench. What country of that ilk or even what country anywhere would tolerate such treachery? The dissembling "defund the police "crowd is getting a useful trial run of that absurd conviction in this detestable maneuver!
Dr. Waddy from Jack: It is reported on Fox that the IRGC Gestapo (and yes far lefties , THEY DO deserve that term you fling about with such abandon ) is still vindictively and murderously active in Iran and that resistance to the regime still poses mortal risks.
ReplyDeleteIts well to remember the death throes of another exceedingly cruel regime, that of Nazi Germany. SS and Gestapo , even when Germany's conquest was obviously imminent , made merry by hanging Germans who displayed ANY sign of "defeatism". Reportedly Hamas took frantic public mortal revenge on as many of those who had offended it as it could manage ,even against those they disingenuously claimed to champion, before they were constrained to stand down.
The "American" far left will no doubt glom onto apparent presently surviving manifestations of that evil regime's vengeful coercive power to frantically condemn and dismiss the Administration's war effort. "By whatever means necessary " is ever their traitorous America loathing maxim .
Dr. Waddy from Jack: Oh my, Schumer calls the Save Act bill "despicable"; well! These far left/Dems play hardball don't they? And minority leader Schumer, a man with a seemingly permanent sneer on his visage, is their heavy hitter isn't he.
ReplyDeleteProblem for him: on the mound is America's happy warrior, ready to smoke the neo Black Sox radicals. "By any means necessary "ehhh? "Bring it on !" our ace hurler bids Schumer and his beleagured obstructionists.
Jack, charges that Trump is a "fascist" ought to count as sedition in themselves, or at least defamation, if you ask me. Unfortunately, the right's record of holding the lefties accountable for their (criminal?) hyperbole speaks for itself.
ReplyDeleteJack, good point that the epic barbarity of the Iranian regime speaks to its fragility. Of course, that is no guarantee that the people of Iran will seize the moment.
