Friends, today there was a VERY high profile defection from Britain's withering Conservative Party to its vibrant, expanding Reform Party, led by our old pal Nigel Farage, Mr. Brexit himself. Robert Jenrick was part of the Conservatives' "shadow cabinet" and a leading candidate for party leader last time around. The fact that he's given up on the Tories is hugely significant and could presage a complete collapse for Britain's mainstay right-wing party, which has carried the conservative/Conservative banner since Victorian times. In a sense, the rise of Reform and the decline of the Conservatives suggests that even bigger changes may be coming to British politics than we've seen stateside in recent years, and we've seen a bunch!!!

In other news, "popular", i.e. carefully cultivated, resistance to ICE's presence in Minneapolis may be increasing, and Trump says that he might have no choice but to invoke the Insurrection Act and deploy active-duty troops to restore order. That would be a big step. Do the lefties really want to invite this form of escalation? I wouldn't be surprised if they tap the brakes on their little revolution long enough to avoid it, but then again they may feel that the atmospherics of a "civil war", if not necessarily the reality of it, will accrue to their political advantage. And I suppose it could, but that would be a very dangerous game to play.

Dr. Waddy from Jack: As an Anglophile , I'm thrilled and encouraged by the news you've given us about the rise of the Reform party. "Unite the right " is a stirring "hue and cry" (if I may say it; its not a direct analogy but its urgency may be comparable). I hope it mobilizes the so very many in the UK who must be greatly disturbed by the incipient and seemingly inexorable rise of counterintuitive far left tyrannical wokeism in that great civilization.
ReplyDeleteThe advent of criminalization of the expression of arbitrarily judged "disturbing" opinions is a particularly alarming development in that home of the great and free English language. It raises very creditable concerns about this onerous development as a herald of much, much more incipient totalitarianism in the fount of democracy. Could Churchill have been "suppressed" during his time in the political wilderness when he wisely foresaw the rise of the terrible dictatorships of the 20th century? Could his passionate advocacy of unrelenting opposition to what he rightly and courageously perceived as the harrowing Nazi threat to Western civilization been legally stifled by apologists and defeatists? Given today's laws in the UK - who knows?
We in the U.S. have been astonished to see the rise, against appalling opposition, of a President unshakeably determined to bring our country out of the thrall of the totalitarian left. I would guess that Nigel Farage has also faced gratuitous castigation for his efforts, including of course the well taken withdrawal from a EU which demonstrates continuing "progress" toward direct political rule by a far left reflexively "correct " bureaucracy. This incipient Soviet Union eventually would have enmired the Brits in suffocating dictatorship which is inimical to engrained British freedom. (The U.S. is, after all, a product of similarly British concern).Farage was vital, perhaps indispensable (?)to British recovery from that near miss with totalitarianism. Now it appears he may be approaching executive national leadership which can rally the return of Britain to its essential freedoms and its consequent reenrichment of its monumental , world beneficial culture.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: I suppose the "American" far left cannot help itself; it risks "offending" the entranced reflexive cadre it has recruited and which obsequiously performs the yeoman street tasks we are seeing it commit now in counterintuitively shamed Minneapolis, if it appears to be embracing common sense . Those automatons mean CHANGE!
ReplyDeleteMurderous criminal apologist and friend Mass. Gov.
Dukakis , in his presumptuous( I mean, he actually thought America would countenance his "compassionate" criminally opportunistic "furloughs" for vicious and theretofore safely imprisoned savages ) demand for the Presidency, was quoted to this effect: "blacks, women, gays, . . . shut up! You're going to get everything you want after I'm elected so relent for now only" . I think a similar tactic will be grudgingly pursued by a far left/Dem coterie desperate to stop President Trump's demonstrated common sense onslaught, in the midterms.
I think President Trump should keep on keeping on as he has for this memorable year. Keep ICE on the case and support them resolutely with all necessary force, including the Insurrection Act, against these doctrinally incensed "American" far ,left ingrates and potential subjects. Minnesota's elected government officials have thoroughly demonstrated their antAmerican convictions. Any offer of conciliation on their part is deceitful and I hope he simply stays on course no matter how much they bleat. These credulous dreamers STILL think they can wear down this monumentally resolute American. We must stand behind him and show them the futility of their vicious "by any means necessary" fantasy.
The agreement manifested in the 1951 Defense of Greenland act established an American right to increase its military force in Greenland. It was a Cold War updating of the U.S. WWII defense of Greenland.
ReplyDeleteCan't we just use this as precedent for increasing our armed presence there or at least reworking the agreement? The possibility of war with Denmark seems fantastic.
If this contretemps somehow motivates our withdrawal from NATO, then it can have a positive effect; excepting of course that we must take care to preserve our fellowship with Canada and the UK. Let imperious Europe fend for itself, if it has the needed fortitude.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: I heard an interesting statistic on the radio today. It held that a commanding majority of Americans support the deportation of aliens who have committed crime beyond the crime of illegal entry. But, it maintains, a clear majority oppose deportation of illegals who live otherwise lawful lives. It was an AP poll and AP is long since discredited and known for a far leftist organ but, just for ducks, lets say they were correct:
ReplyDeleteOn the face of it , it is undutiful of our executive branch to countenance any excuse of the crime of illegal immigration. Yet, many of those who hazard it comes from countries where law enforcement is mostly corrupt; consequently they may , yes understandably, believe that law breaking is justified everywhere that they know of for alleviation of unbearable official injustice and unrelieved poverty . They may have no experience and consequent belief that the law is ever on the side of the just.
They were encouraged in this belief by the far leftists who kept pore ol' Biden under their control in order to mobilize the deluge of illegals those radicals sought in order to increase their power. They counted on the economic well being of America to be sufficient reason for these so many unfortunates to pack up and leave home. They thought they were establishing a compliant mass of unschooled peoples obligated to them and naively supportive of their intent to "fundamentally transform" the U.S.
They knew and feared DJT as much as to fanatically direct unprecedented vicious and often unlawful purpose to ruin him. But they failed . Still, they could not believe that his courageous endurance of their injustice was a prime indicator of his resolve and now well demonstrated determination to relieve America of the wrong they did us.
Alright; suppose the Administration were to say: "we will cease deporting illegals with no other criminal record anywhere. In turn we will require complete cooperation with ICE from states, cities and counties including access to all incarcerated aliens and their records . It will be at the discretion of ICE or its superiors as to whether to immediately deport such offenders or to have them serve their stateside sentences. " Ya think NY, NYC , Chicago, Illinois, and of course the People's Republic of Newsom would go for it.? Of course not; they know that the Biden invasion of illegals included lots of thugs and they need them here to support their "fundamental transformation" of an erring and evil U.S. Once they take over they would, like all totalitarians , take the run of the mill local victimizers well in hand. Besides, they are insanely resistant to any measure taken by President Trump and his Administration.
Jack, yes: Farage CAN deliver national redemption to the British people, but only if he's allowed to speak, and only if he's allowed to run, and only if those same Brits are allowed to vote. Sad to say, none of these assumptions are bulletproof these days.
ReplyDeleteI agree: if the haggling over Greenland causes the effective dissolution of NATO, it won't be all bad, or even mostly bad. What's the endgame, though? Are we still going to take Greenland by force of arms? If not, then why all the hubbub? And what would become of Ukraine in the midst of this US vs. EU battle royal?
I think you're right, Jack: the lefties don't really care if the people ICE is detaining and deporting are hardened criminals or demure grandmas. They're going to moan about Trump's immigration policies, come what may, so DJT might as well deport whomever he likes, which I really believe means, at the end of the day, EVERYONE who is here illegally. Now, if, when deported, they want to get back in line, so to speak, no one gainsays them the right to try.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: One thing is for sure; the far leftist mobilized onslaught on our democratically enacted Immigration Laws is completely historically condemned. Only a fool would believe that they have ANY regard for the law abiding people they say are being netted by ICE. They are the faithful successors of Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and those who drove the "boat people" out on their luxury cruises in the sultry South China Sea.
