Friends, after declaring to the Iranian people, now in revolt against their theocratic rulers, that "help is on the way", it appears Trump has pulled the plug on that help, at least in the sense of military action. Trump has drawn a red line on the (mass) execution of protestors, which is nice, as far as it goes, but it doesn't bring us any closer to regime change in Iran, which is what the Iranian people and sensible Americans want. The sad part is that the moment may already have passed, and thus a golden opportunity to split the regime and cause its collapse may be behind us. There are good reasons to intervene and not to intervene, but promising "help" and failing to deliver it is frankly shameful, if you ask me. I hope President Trump follows the advice of Iran's Shah-in-exile and authorizes strikes against those elements of the Iranian leadership that have the most blood on their hands.

Dr. Waddy from Jack: I agree with the concerns you expressed above. Could possibly fruitful negotiations be progressing? Seems unlikely that the mullahs would willingly give up their tyrannical regime. Based on his past actions we can be fairly confident, I think, that President will act decisively when he perceives it best. I hope so; Crown Prince Pahlavi's confidence in the U.S. is touching and redeeming. Let the America haters bleat; Venezuelans have borne grateful witness to the world that we are still "the flag that sets you free".
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy from Jack: I believe I heard a report that we are moving a carrier strike group into close range of Iran. That would be a serious and very expensive move and could also expose the carrier to anti ship missiles. If true, that should be a compelling reason for the mullahs to believe that President Trump WILL support the rebellion of the Iranian people against them and their obsequious murderers until it succeeds. Neomedieval religious fanaticism cannot be suffered to further plague modern civilization.
ReplyDeleteWell, as the Venezuelans (and the Vietnamese) could attest, we're the flag that PROMISES to set you free, but doesn't always follow through.
ReplyDeleteI would think we would always have a carrier group near the Persian Gulf. The key is whether we're ready to use it, and if so to do what exactly? Talking with the mullahs is a waste of time, but talking to someone in the security forces willing to overthrow them could be very worthwhile.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: The still dissembling "American" far left disgraced itself beyond measure by torpedoing our Vietnam effort and thereby foreswearing our tradition of deliverance of nations from hellish oppression. We massively affirmed that tradition from 1941-1953 only to have our very children betray us. I trust that DJT and JD will not suffer today's totalitarian ingrates to reprise this profound wrong.
ReplyDeleteIt does make me wonder how the left would treat our warriors, if Trump got us into a genuine war... I fear the answer to that question!
