Fish and Trips

Friends, good news!  My trip to England just wrapped up, and I'm pleased to say it went superbly.  Sure, I was feted by King Charles at Windsor Castle, as every American tourist has come to expect, but for me the real highlight was playing croquet at the prestigious Roehamption Club, as you see here.  My signature blue ball and I make quite an impression, wherever we go!  What were the other high points of the trip?  Lots of quality time with family and friends, some exploration of family history, gorgeous churches and cathedrals, and plenty of good eating, which you wouldn't have expected on the Sceptred Isle a few decades ago.  Of course, it's nice to be home, and now that I am home I can devote myself to keeping up with the news and engaging in fruitful dialogue with...you!

Speaking of fruitful, a little birdie tells me that the blog has just notched half a million total hits!  Of course, no one is less surprised than I am, because I always figured the political world would fall at my feet, sooner or later, but it's always nice to be proven right, no?  Let's hope the popularity of this forum continues to skyrocket!!!

So what's going on in the news?  Well, there is more and more talk of a potential government shutdown, and DJT is making it clear that he would embrace any such golden opportunity and would duly fire every bureaucrat in sight!  And why wouldn't he?

Another leftist sniper has drawn blood, this time at an ICE facility.  It seems there are more and more radicalized young male "progressives" out there who feel that bullets can solve problems that ballots can't.  They're right, strictly speaking, but they also risk inflaming our country's political divisions, galvanizing the right, and further delegitimizing the Left.  It will be interesting to see whether the fanatical Left can be brought under any kind of control.

Finally, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered all generals and admirals to attend an extraordinary in-person meeting at a base in Virginia.  Needless to say, all the Trump haters in the officer corps are nervous!  They must expect that the MAGA-ization of the military is about to be intensified, which, if true, sounds promising to me...  Send all the lefty dissident generals and admirals on a five-year fact-finding mission to Timbuktu, I say!

Speaking of MAGA, and in the wake of the recent political violence, I saw a site, by accident, titled "Leaving MAGA" by Rich Logis. No, I did not ask for a copy of his booklet! Ha!

Speaking of MAGA once again, and on the religious side of the movement, I noticed a very recently published book, "The Seven Mountains Mandate......" by Matthew Boedy, a Ph.D. prof. at University of North Georgia, and a member of The First Baptist Church in Gainesville, Georgia.

I also ran into an article by David Cloud on his "Way of Life Literature" site, under his Friday Church News notes for July 30, 2021 titled "Donald Trump and The Seven Mountains Mandate". Cloud is an indep endent, fundamentalist Baptist with a long running site.

With that said, I thought the above mentioned authors, with the possible exception of Logis, a former disgruntled MAGA adherent, were very interesting, since neither Boedy or Cloud impress me as the usual nut case anti-MAGA types.

  2. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Well I had a very wonderful experience yesterday; I went to a presentation by Poland's heroic patriot President Lech Walesa, who I have thought for awhile is the greatest living person in the world. Words are inadequate, I think, to fully honor his indomitable courage in the very face of the most intense evil modern history can record , Soviet Communism.

His ascension to the podium was very dramatic; it was preceded by a brief recorded introduction graced by stirring music which I think may have been Polish. He was of course honored with an extended and thunderous standing ovation from the hundreds in the audience. I was only about 10 rows back from the podium so I had a very good view of him. He looks quite hale and hearty and he spoke clearly and confidently in Polish.

I will not attempt to reprise here what he said ; that's available on line. He did refer, with much becoming modesty , to the fact that Solidarity had not only the tyrannous power of the Polish Communist regime to contend with but also the fearful and inhuman force of the very USSR itself. Of course his life was in constant danger in those astonishing days of the first successful resistance to Marxist dictatorship. Its no exaggeration to say that along with Saint John Paul II and President Reagan and ,yes, a reluctant but resigned Mikhail Gorbachev who refrained from using the massive force he had at hand , he changed world history so very , very much for the better. I believe there were elderly Polish people in the audience ; their thoughts must have been sublime.

It was worth every mile of the all day drive to Pittsburgh and back to have the privilege of knowing for the rest of my life I was able to hear, see and applaud this world historical paragon of devotion and high resolve.

  3. Dr. Waddy from Jack: I do not doubt that the predominant attitude in our officer corps and the enlisted ranks is one of disdain for far left ideologues and their contemptuous misuse of our military for their wrong headed social experiments and their vicious Clintonesque "loathing" for our forces ( eg. Hillary and her vicious plan to use Marine Officers as waiters - that was even beneath contempt).

But the road to high rank in our superlative military is a very demanding one and those who have approached General or Flag rank might have been understandably hesitant to resist the insipid impositions forced on them by Dem administrations. Yes , there are some who probably welcomed at least some of it but the culture and life of the armed services is inimical to such humbug as was forced upon it by radical civilians.

So I hope Sec. Hegseth's purpose in this meeting included assuring these officers that they have his full and knowledgeable support from the very top in doing what is necessary to return our forces to their prime purpose: readiness for and the actual accomplishment of victorious combat in defense of our worthy country. It will be difficult to undo the execrable damage vindictive America hating ingrates have done to our defenders but it is vital that they carry on with confidence that he is backing them 100%.

  4. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Can the fanatical left be brought under control? The now old time Dem dissemblers like always sneering Schumer , Chardonnay solaced Hillary and dessicated Pelosi and their disciples like Pritzker, Hochul and even pretty boy Newsom , can't hold a candle to the radical whippersnappers in a party which once would have spanked them, who seem determined either to take the now 60 year far left campaign to unlikely culmination on the backs of the once loyal Dem husk or to take it over the brink into. . . ? Mamdani, Crockett, AOC and the expatriate America hating squad are in the van of this desperate thrust. The only visible advocate of common sense in that party is Fetterman and he is an unheard voice in a wilderness akin to the Saudi Arabian "Empty Quarter".

I think the fanatic Dems are going to go for it in the next 14 months and are going to be buried in the midterms. Then what? The bunker?!

  5. Dr. Waddy from Jack: We know that Marxists always seek to exacerbate "contradictions" in civilizations they strive first to destroy and then to rebuild to manifest their impossibly idealistic dreams (eg. the Russian Bolsheviks who early on in their reign did away with recently enacted unemployment benefits for urban workers because to further provide them would be to acknowledge the existence of politically unacceptable unemployment. And so the unemployed , many of them driven off the farm by Marxist oppression and war starved. "Those who will not work will not eat" was the Bolshies'blithe ideological justification at the time. Of course their later famine producing confiscation of Ukrainian crops to feed the cities was their hideously fatal discreditation ). That's the way Marxists always ';think". They have proven it so many times in power that it is beyond doubt now.

So, in the U.S., very controversial support even including citizen like government benefits, which the far left knows will produce unsettling conflict and disunity; together with obvious and plainly terribly offensive succor for violent criminals, are pushed by the now very far left Dems with full intent to produce "contradiction" between the law abiding and the apologists for lawless victimizers ! The far left hopes for resulting dysfunction and disorder which could be used to take command as the Bolsheviks did in Russia and almost did in a defeated 1919 Germany of all places.

But this is not early 20th century Russia with its centuries old history of absolutist rule. And though the "American "far left, through its obsequious vehicle the Dem party still seeks nonetheless to take the totalitarian control necessary to force its counterintuitive agenda of "fundamental transformation" on a recalcitrant and insolent America, its time may well have come and gone with the defeat of darling Hillary and the rise of DJT and Maga. Too bad! The present "young Turk"surge of very far left aggression may well be a last gasp.

  6. Interesting, Ray! What did you learn from said articles?

I'm so glad you got to see Walesa in person, Jack! So he spoke no English at all? That surprises me.

Jack, I hope that most officers think along MAGA lines, but I would not be at all confident that that's the case. Anyway, that still leaves all the officers who don't. What's to become of them?

I sure hope you're right about the midterms!!! A good shellacking would devastate the Dems. The circular firing squad would be on full auto for weeks...maybe decades.

  7. Dr. Waddy from Jack: With all they have invested in their careers I would guess the majority of pro woke officers will go along to get along. They may think "this too will pass" .Everyone who is successful in the military gets used to following disagreeable orders though so many of them are for routine situations. But if we get some radical as President , the pro wokers in the military may rue the day too.

  8. Dr. Waddy from Jack: I was out of the room for a part of President Walesa's talk; perhaps then he did use English. Of course there was a translator. But it was moving to hear this great man speak in his country's language.

  9. BTW, I do not understand the Polish language. Jack

  10. True, Jack: rolling one's eyes at the political leadership is old hat to most military officers -- almost as much as rolling one's eyes at officers is to enlisted men!
