Friends, in less than a week the good people of Iowa will weigh in and officially begin the presidential nominating process in the GOP. Every indication we have leads us to believe that Donald Trump will win the Iowa caucuses -- handily. Will his margin exceed expectations, though, or will he show unexpected weakness? Who knows. More important for the shape of the race that ensues is who finishes second. The latest poll indicates that it could easily be DeSantis OR Haley. If it's DeSantis, that will breathe some life into his moribund campaign, but it probably only helps Trump, because Haley has bet the farm on New Hampshire, where she may well excel. The longer it remains a "three man" race, or possibly five, if you count Christie and Ramaswamy, the better for Trump. Only if DeSantis thrashes Haley, and steals her momentum, will events in Iowa truly matter -- at least that's how I see it. Then, DeSantis might emerge as the anti-Trump, and sooner rather than later. If DeSantis stumbles in Iowa, by contrast, I assume he'll drop out. Again, DJT seems to be cruising to the nomination, by all appearances, which both terrifies and thrills leftists, in equal measure. I feel much the same!

In other news, two-thirds of Democrats think that Trump should be removed from the ballot. That's scary, but not unexpected. What is somewhat less expected is the strong support among Republicans, independents, and even some Democrats for removing Biden from the ballot! You have to wonder whether some of these people in red, blue, and purple America truly understand what this "democracy" thing is that people keep talking about... Do we really want to live in a one-party state??? Apparently, many of us do!

ReplyDeleteI find it interesting (an understatement) that Bill O'Reilly predicts Michelle Obama as "riding to the rescue" if Biden resigns for health reasons in Spring 2024. Then (says O'Reilly) the convention can pick anybody it wants.
O'Reilly thinks Gavin Newsom is out because he is giving Med-Cal benefits to illegal immigrants.
I have heard opinions that say there is a dilemma for the "Democrats" because if Biden resigns they will have to get past Kamala Harris, which, in my opinion is a weak argument.
Can you envision The Obamas in The White House again? I can, because as O'Reilly points out, there are millions of incompetent Americans out there. Even if Biden did not resign, there are still enough incompetent Americans to vote for him too. In the end, there is no lack of damn fools, now is there?

ReplyDeleteI saw some news clip the other day about some reporters joking around about a Trump assassination. Didn't see any follow-up as to details, or if it was fake news. However, I'm sure you are aware that this is a very real possibility.
No doubt in my mind that most Americans back in 1963 ever imagined that JFK would be assassinated, but he was. Doubt if many Americans thought his brother RFK would be assassinated five (5) years later. This is certainly a possibility in light of the fact that Trump is hated by so many Americans (both the competent and incompetent) that getting rid of him in that matter would make them happy. I'm sure this was true back in 1963, and JFK is considered to be a conservative today.
Other scenarios are getting into a war (deliberately) and suspending elections, plus having another pandemic wave and creating the same panic and confusion as 2020.
Yes I know, many would say these things could not happen again. Why not? They happened once in all cases, so why not again? If something works, use it. Right?

ReplyDeleteDo either of you see anything, anywhere, indicating that the reporters who were joking about a Trump assassination were reprimanded or investigated, or anything? I'm sure not seeing anything, unless I clearly missed it. However, it sees to me that they certainly should be called on the carpet or something should be done, don't you think? Again, I'm not seeing anything, so if you have, let me know.
Ray and Dr. Waddy from Jack: Everything the MSM says about DJT is in pursuit of his destruction.Such far reaching speculation on their part might trigger some insane person seeking attention and is therefore terribly irresponsible and perhaps legally actionable.Aren't they the ones who maintain that DJT's "implied "support for insurrection led to "insurrection"?
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy from Jack: If fascists are extreme, bigoted authoritarians who demonize and oppress all opposition, then the antiamerican left is thoroughly fascist. But 66% of dems probably includes some of the people of essentially good will who still repose unrequited confidence in a dem party nonetheless captured by marxists of whom any injustice is incipiently possible. That that many dems of any kind advocate such an antidemocratic move is appalling. What a gibbering court jester Biden makes of himself when he terms his "Democrat" party the champion of democracy under siege.
ReplyDeleteRay, I know many people think Michelle Obama would be a strong candidate, but personally I have my doubts. She's never been a candidate for anything before, and it's questionable whether she has the desire or the mettle to get through a grueling campaign. She would, however, represent an elegant solution to Kamala problem. She would leave Kamala in her (ever so diverse, equitable, and inclusive) dust. And I wouldn't rule out Newsom by any means. No one cares about an obscure issue like Medi-Cal. Conservatives will SAY he's too far left, sure, but the media will shield him as best they can.
ReplyDeleteRay, I think this is the conversation you referenced: https://nypost.com/2024/01/09/news/journalists-caught-joking-about-trump-assassination-like-jfk/ Sounds like a big nothingburger to me. Now, EVERY lefty who compares Trump to Hitler is, in essence, justifying ANY and ALL means necessary to stop him. That seems obvious enough. I know plenty of so-called progressives who would love to kill Trump personally, and would be overjoyed if someone else actually did it. But that, as far as I know, isn't a crime, so not much we can do about it -- unless there's a "conspiracy" to facilitate Trump's death, Fani Willis-style?
Ray, I believe that Trump's assassination is a distinct possibility, as is the suspension of the election for one "trumped up" reason or another. All bets are off!!! These people are off their gourd.
Jack, as you know, no word has any objective meaning for a leftist, so "democracy" is what they make of it, in the moment and to satisfy their immediate ideological objectives. They can turn around the next day and use the word completely differently -- and they will!
