Friends, the province of Alberta will hold a referendum on whether or not to proceed with secession from Canada. Oh my! A lot of Trumpers find this very exciting, because they imagine that Alberta will join the U.S., or it will be the catalyst for a broader breakup of Canada that will lead, in time, to the incorporation of all of it in these United States. Well, maybe, but the truth is that the vast majority of Albertans appear to be opposed to secession, so we shouldn't get our hopes up. Still, one assumes the people of Alberta will have a very fierce debate on the subject in the months ahead, and, even if Alberta doesn't become a country, it may well extract important concessions from Ottawa.

In other news, Tulsi Gabbard is resigning from Trump's cabinet, because her husband is battling cancer. Is that the real reason, or is this yet another purge? Hard to say, but I think most people would agree that Gabbard has been a disappointment as Director of National Intelligence. Conservatives expected her to create a whole lot of turmoil in that ossified, generally unaccountable community, and she simply hasn't.
It's official: the border is closed AND three million former illegal immigrants are now languishing on the correct side of it! This is a phenomenal accomplishment, and everyone who voted for DJT should take great solace in it.
Finally, there's no denying that higher gas prices are causing a spike in overall inflation, and both of these trends are hurting consumer sentiment, as well as Trump's poll numbers. The conflict with Iran is thus a political drag on Republicans, and an economic drag on the country, but that doesn't mean that the "war" isn't worth waging. I continue to believe that it will be long over by the time the midterms roll around, and that, when it is over, we will have destroyed much of Iran's military potential AND extracted significant concessions in terms of the Islamic Republic's enriched uranium stockpile, its support of terrorists and regional troublemakers, and its outrageous pretensions to control the Strait of Hormuz. Keep up the pressure, DJT! It's bound to work eventually.

RAY TO DR. WADDY
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments on Iran.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: I would guess that a down to earth place like Alberta would be majority conservative in its culture though its "indigenous" citizenry may be majority left wing in their views. The conservatives probably chafe at domination by populous and liberal Ontario. I wonder if Canada's left is becoming as Marxist as ours is and if it similarly disdains Canada's "flyover country" . I don't know if a Canadian Constitution provides for a province's departure. Quebec didn't leave , despite strong feelings there in favor of separating.
ReplyDeleteJust now, common sense America is advancing in our cold civil war but the issue is still a long way from final resolution. If it ever becomes certain that our country is headed for far left thralldom , that part of our west still unsubjugated by the "left coast" may make common cause with the great Canadian interior. With our DSA on the ascendent , the prospect of an utterly unendurable far left imposing its will on an unwary America is growing but is still far from realization. Should it triumph , I think a breakup of the US would be likely. Should the still free part of our mountain west and the Dakotas join with the Canadian west I would suggest that the still faithfully American states in our midwest and south might join with a reprised Republic of Texas.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: I completely agree with your view of the prospects in the Iran War.Let's hope that the majority of Americans realize what is at stake (mushroom clouds over Tel Aviv and NYC) and resolve to stay the course with this Administration despite the present , probably temporary ,cost of gas.
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy from Jack: The closing of the border and the departure of millions of illegals confirms that the open borders policy of the far left captured Biden administration was cynically purposeful and seditious. Its object was to establish within our country a massive group to which the "American far left " would dictate a sense of obligation to its Marxist cause.
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy from Jack: Ditto on big kudos to President Trump and his administration for their superb correction of the anarchic border situation deliberately fomented by BIden's puppeteers.
ReplyDeleteDe rien, Ray!
ReplyDeleteJack, there is, in fact, a process for Canadian provinces to become independent from Greater Canada. Alberta is now following that process, although majority support would be one of several requirements, and so far it doesn't exist. Note that in the U.S. we have no established procedure to guide secessionist movements. Well, I guess we do have one: when a secessionist pops up, we shoot him (and the several hundred thousand "Rebs" standing next to him).
