Trump=War, or Trump=Peace?

Friends, don't miss my latest interview with Brian O'Neil on WLEA 1480's Newsmaker program. We cover a lot of ground, including New York politics and the prospects for Governor Andrew Cuomo and Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, US relations with Iran and North Korea, the US-China "trade war", and the role played by non-citizen voters in "foreign meddling".

  1. Dr. Waddy:I listened; I may be able to clarify the parole situation. I think those 24,000 had been granted parole through the normal process of appearing before the Parole Board and being approved. The Governor gave them "conditional pardons" which relieved them of the disability of not being allowed to vote only. Our Congressman Tom Reed quickly realized that this could result in sex offenders showing up in schools when they are polling places (and just incidentally getting access to info on students, eg. pictures). He is crafting legislation to prevent this nationwide. If Cuomo wins by less than 24,000 votes one of the purposes of his wrong headed measure will be fulfilled. Symbolically the move enforces the realization in enough of the real America of his sympathy for criminals as contrasted to his disdain for the law abiding (eg. gun owners for whom he has made NY a state where you cannot buy NRA liability insurance to protect you from financial ruin should you defend yourself or others and in so doing excite the wrath of Andrew)to keep him out of our White House.

    The Lt. Gov. race could have some significance if Cuomo were forced out of office by scandal. Kathy Hochul lacks his frantic desire to force unwanted and unneeded social change on the unwashed.

  2. Good point, Jack. Our Governor will almost inevitably be a Democrat, but it needn't be Cuomo for all time. The Dems themselves might boot him out. Look at what happened to Schneiderman...

    Thanks for the clarification on the "conditional pardons". I still consider any mass pardoning to be an abuse of the system. I believe the legislature should make this call.

  3. Dr. Waddy: Your latter point is far too democratic to be palatable to a Democrat.

  4. Ha! You're right. "The end justifies the means" might as well be the motto of Trump-haters everywhere.
