David Hogg: The New Face of the Left?

Friends, don't miss my latest Newsmaker interview with Brian O'Neil.  We cover a lot of ground, including the political aspirations of David Hogg (I opine that his arrogance might make him the ideal Democratic candidate for high office), the toppling of the Silent Sam statue in North Carolina, the banning of Alex Jones from many social media platforms, Governor Cuomo's "America was never that great" gaffe, the revocation of John Brennan's security clearance, and more!

  1. Dr. Waddy: I listened. David Hogg: "older Democrats should get out of the way". Well! Not that I would object to anything which impedes the Dems' crusade to force "fundamental change" on an uncomprehending real America but... . I remember in 1967 listening to oh so fresh Bob Dylan bidding the obdurate Greatest Generation "please get out of the new world if you can't lend a hand." A graphic reprise of the rape of Nanking or the Katyn Forest massacre might have given old Nobel Prize Bob to understand just how, ehhh, inappropriate his remonstrances were. Perhaps Master Hogg would benefit from similar schooling. I understand Laura Ingraham took him to adult task for his passionate expectorations. I'm reminded of Mark Twain's memoir of introduction to the realities of life as a pilot of a Mississippi River boat. "Now then turn out" came the command at midnight thru the miasmic gloom of the river night. It was just a hint of what awaited the terribly naive youth on his progression to understanding and competence. Master Hogg may well have such experiences in store though I do not rule out his becoming an analogy to John Kerry, who transformed his 1970's indiscretions into political near gold. And I'm struck by your observation that Master Hogg is a Floridian - a state strongly influenced by, shall we say, very experienced people.

I agree with your view of the desecration of a statue of an everyday Confederate soldier as an outrage. Give those who perpetrated it leave and next will be the Marine Corps Memorial. Those Rebs fought a very American fight and then did what General Lee bade them - they became good citizens.

I note your comment on coordination of suppression of conservative opinion on social media and that social media intercourse is conducted by private entities. Are they not subject to antitrust laws?

As to leftists trying their best to suppress expression of conservative opinion on line - is this not irrefutable evidence of their intentions should they acquire irresistable power? With this and the history of the 20th century and their dictatorial conduct in any modern institution they dominate - need we more evidence of their totalitarian aspirations?

  2. Jack, good question about anti-trust laws. I doubt they would cover the coordination of policies to prevent "hate speech", but the law is a slippery thing, and I suppose it's possible that Jeff Sessions (poor beleaguered fellow) could find a pretext for legal action...

Hogg's willingness to be offensive even to the vast majority of people who agree with his views is, I must say, delightfully typical on the Left. They are so disagreeable that they can't even get along with each other. The key is to cultivate this orneriness and make it grow! I can think of no better way than to foster a RED WAVE...

  3. Dr. Waddy: The "environmental" totalitarians have found in the RICO statute a pretense to attack persons and entities completely separate from the "no necks" the statute was aimed at.Perhaps it is time for them to be hoisted on their own petards in directing anti-trust scrutiny at them (?) Some useful precedents could be set at a time when a sympathetic administration and an increasingly principled Federal judiciary is available.

  4. Jack, the RICO statute could be a good starting point, but so could the 1st Amendment. I might also apply the anti-trust laws in a more direct way: break up Facebook, Amazon, and Google, since they are, effectively speaking, monopolies. Can you imagine if there were two or more Facebooks, and one of them catered to conservatives? Wouldn't that be nice?

  5. Dr. Waddy: Ditto. ditto, ditto.
