Friends, after a month-long hiatus, I'm back in action on the radio. Specifically, this week I make my usual appearance on the Newsmakers Show, where I break down the implications of Britain's new P.M. I also analyze the continuation/revival of the Iran conflict. I make the stakes clear and argue that defeat is NOT an option! The U.S. must do whatever is necessary to wrest control of the Strait of Hormuz from the mullahs -- period, exclamation point!
Dr. Waddy: Glad to see you back on the Newsmaker broadcast. Re your commentary thereon: I expressed at your previous post that I thought Iran has used the Strait to try to get us distracted from the fundamental issue of their utterly intolerable potential acquisition of nuclear weapons. They may well have but your reasoning has given me pause:
ReplyDeleteYou have maintained that control of the Strait is an existential issue because freedom of the seas is vital (unless, I suppose , for Luxemberg or Nepal ).Certainly it has been a decisive casus belli in our history. We sent a vast American army to Europe for the first time using it as our immediate rationale, in 1917. And a radical investment of the N. Atlantic came very close to delivering Britain to the Boche in WWI. If Iran's regime permits objective consideration of the history even of the infidel West, it knows this full well.
I think Iran's primary national purpose since it was seized by a faction of Islam embodying neomedieval hostility to any country the heretic persistence of which necessitates unrelenting, aggressive hostility and hatred, is this; it is devoted therefore to the assertive and objective exercise of their outrage at this fundamental evil and their determination to defend their "moral" right to do so.Nuclear weapons are of course incalculably objective. The world has , of necessity, to beware of this 7th century conviction on the part of a doctrine which has preempted an understandably established religion the virtues of which give it world import.
If in what Iran may fanatically think a temporary obstruction to their possession of the ultimate physical weapon, their main tactic is control of the Strait and the dysfunction that causes, then I think that supports your assertion of the indispensability of the our defeating them in that very purpose. It does not replace the permanent denial to Iran of nuclear weapons but it is , it now seems to me , equally vital.
Dr. Waddy: Concern about the rise of DSA increases apace and rightfully so I think. I think though that most Dems have for a long time embraced the now openly expressed intent of the DSA to force "fundamental transformation" on a US they hold to be unjust. Heck, they almost nominated Sanders in 2016 and actually did nominate a grimly vindictive radical Hillary.
ReplyDeleteThose relatively "moderate" Dems who openly oppose the DSA : first , some of them want the nomination in '28. Second, they are genuinely concerned that their erstwhile party will be pulled out from under them and and lead the remnant to electoral catastrophe.
I think the only Dem we can trust is truly appalled by the DSA's radicalism is Fetterman and he is reported to have formed a pact of cooperation with Pennsylvania's GOP Senator. That is a very favorable development both for its present legislative potential and as a sign that Fetterman is getting closer to bolting the radical infested Dem party.
Dr. Waddy: The question came up on the broadcast on whether it is proper to criticize our war effort.
ReplyDeleteWell considered and measured disagreement with our policy can be expressed appropriately by those of good will and rectitude.The far left of course claims a right to a completely unfettered "right" to expression in this regard which it opposes in such settings as American "universities" and in that portion of the news media it still corrupts. It is plainly purposed for support of their ever fundamental purpose of destroying our country from within and replacing it with Marxist hell.
Some criticism of past war efforts , especially some expressed with physical force and couched as "antiwar" when it was actually anti only our war effort ,and celebrated and openly supported that of our enemy ,abused our Constitutional right to free speech in the same way criminals cynically misuse the 5th Amendment.
Freedom of expression is not unlimited. When its obvious purpose is to afford aid and comfort to an enemy in time of war it crosses the line into the crimes of sedition and treason. In the Vietnam era we saw the decisive and unforgivable effect that open support for the N.VIetnamese commies, unjustly tolerated by law enforcement and politicians, had on our fighting forces and on much of the public. And it was gleefully acknowledged post war by the commies: " all those kid demonstrators kept us going".
Today's onerously assertive "American" far left seeks to reprise the terribly destructive effect its '60s idols had on our justified fight against world communism in Vietnam.
In time of war there must be a balance struck between freedom of expression and aid and comfort to the enemy. This administration is capable of asserting this common sense truth against those who strive to see the Iranian cause succeed.
Dr. Waddy: Fox had a perceptive commentary on yesterday. It held that the pervasive radicalization of American universities, teachers' colleges and, consequently ,high schools and elementary schools may have fostered a grievously and widely radicalized young generation (s) of college educated far left cadre and that one reason for the upsurge in open DSA assertion might be that these incipient totalitarians think the time is right to take full and maybe even decisive advantage of this phenomenon. They know how very much damage was done to America by the similarly corrupted baby boomers in laying waste to our Vietnam War effort and in fostering the national "malaise" noted by President Carter and largely alleviated after 18 years by President Reagan. This time America may not have that long in which to defeat these Marxist fanatics.

ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy: One of the most unctuous of the positions taken by the DSA is that they are "for" the "working class" or are actually members of it.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in a dominantly mechanically employed Buffalo and I'm familiar with its blue collar culture, which goes well beyond the work place. I lived much of it. It embraces traditional American values and is firmly patriotic. These DSA punks are patronizing "effete snobs" like the ones who moved Spiro Agnew to coin the term.
I remember in the '60s when some far left boomer whelps declared, with breathtaking naive presumption that they would"go into the work places and organize the workers" A steelworker replied "If those pukes come in here all they will get is a punch in the mouth". Labor was already well organized , thank you , and knew full well just what it takes and what values it embraced. Yes, old style bolsheviks did succeed in infecting some of the labor movement but it didn't change the blue collar culture of which labor was integral.
USSR "President "NIkolai Podgorny " once expressed his desire to meet with labor leaders on a visit to the UK. Leading labor leaders there trumpeted their revulsion for him and his doctrine: 'all he knows how to do is oppress workers"
The DSA consists of know it all Marxists and manifests in its now very open absurd proposals defacto contempt for the blue collar culture which embraces the America the DSA savages and would enthusiastically destroy.
Dr. Waddy: An article in today's Town Hall site describes how PBS and NPR are thriving after having their Federal funding ended. He ascribes this to "rage giving"on the part of far left sympathizers.

And the now routine use of tragically absurd names like "People's Republic" and "Democratic" which are fully recognized for the lies they are , are Marxist models for this cynical and disingenuous misuse of democratically leveled taxes.
Oh rage on , far lefties; common sense America couldn't care less !As long as you are denied in this instance ,at least,
the benefit of our taxes to support doctrines which further the far left's hateful campaign to destroy our country, you can go take a flying jump at the moon. Your juvenile rage is of no moment to us.
Our common sense President has his sights set now on another egregious example of casually "justified" preemption of another tax payer funded organization: the once exalted Smithsonian Institution. In recent years it has striven in its exhibits to portray US history as an unrelenting process of outrageous injustice which thoroughly condemns America.
President Trump is having none of it; he has commenced his executive action to "fundamentally reform" this unapologetically politically slanted , once widely respected tax payer supported museum by ordering the placing of signs in prominent places in the museum warning tax payers that many of the exhibits they may see now therein are products of gross bias against the US. They purposely contradict the historically ethical confirmation of the balance between good and evil inherent in the history of all great powers. In most countries this balance tends toward one or the other. Those who dominate the selection,acquisition and presentation of Smithsonian exhibits are plainly determined to interpret them as being thoroughly indicative of comprehensive injustice in our history. And they expect the US taxpayer to meekly assent to the use of taxpayer funds to champion this baloney. Their snooty ,evasive and imperious attitude when questioned about this unprofessional prejudice shows the contempt they bear toward any who dare to doubt their righteousness and wisdom. What they need is a good public dressdown and probably some firings. They need to wise up on this because President Trump is unlikely to relent until he has set well in motion the return of this public treasure to its past greatness.
Dr. Waddy: Yes , let the Smithsonian fully and frankly depict the terribly shameful aspects of our history. But to portray them as solely defining our national character is malicious . On balance - the only fair and objective measure - we are a good country which has done the world more benefit than any other great power in history. Displaying the good and the bad is the only principled use of taxpayers' funds in a museum of American history. I'm confident that if this is done honestly the good will outweigh the bad; let it speak for itself and don't force Americans to endorse the views of America haters. Hooray for President Trump for exposing these Marxists to the embarrassment and professional discreditation they deserve.

ReplyDeleteJack, I would dispute the notion that Bernie Sanders was "almost" the Dem nominee in 2016. He would have been, had the primary electorate been permitted to choose the nominee, but that was never very likely to happen. The Democratic Party is, despite its name, an elitist cabal, and big money interests and an ossified establishment run it...for now. Maybe the DSA can change that? Trump certainly did in the GOP!
Jack, your views on war and sedition are entirely defensible, but note that, legally speaking, we aren't at war, so it would be hard to justify any prosecution of a person who criticized a mere "police action", surely...
Oh, there's no doubt that the fervent socialism of many young Americans is a product of their miseducation in public schools and, even more so, colleges and universities. But hey, the damage is done, and unfortunately even leftist loons have the right to vote! Quite an oversight, that...
Jack, my two cents would be that the resilience of leftism at PBS, NPR, and the Smithsonian, despite Trumpian attempts to quash it, is a timely reminder that Trump's powers are limited, the Left has ample financial resources, cultural influence, and elite backing, and therefore it will be extremely difficult, and will take generations, to dislodge these neo-Marxists from their innumerable perches. An executive order or two will feel good, but the enemy will, at best, go dormant for a short time -- he certainly won't disappear or shrivel up and die.
Dr. Waddy: What an intriguing point you raise. Why would any sane country obtain a small number of nonthermonuclear nukes while trumpeting "Death to America and Israel!"? If they were to use them against either power they would be left with the world's largest parking lot. Their neomedieval fanatic vindictiveness and their reverence for suicide done in their cause may well be insane.
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy: You are in all probability right in saying that the conflict with the America hating far left will be exceedingly difficult and prolonged; a favorable eventual outcome for American democracy is not at all guaranteed. Radicals have penetrated so deeply into some locations and institutions ,like blue cities which reflexively elect by definition incompetent radical Mayors or like the American Academy's professionals, a grievous proportion of whom are firmly esconsed , as to possibly be immovable, both doctrinally and administratively.
ReplyDeleteAt 79, I certainly do not expect to see the eradication of the still astonishing rise of Marxism in this, world marxism's worst enemy. But perhaps it can be contained , to the benefit of common sense America in the way the oyster mitigates the permanent presence of noxious foreign objects within its shell.
Though heroic and perceptive Mayor Guiliani showed how to redeem a NYC which seemed beyond redemption - a condition it is fast approaching again - the common sense verities he confirmed are seemingly of no moment to the majorities of the electorates in many blue cities. The only solution now for those who can no longer endure living in these swamps of Marxist bigotry and incipient totalitarianism is to leave. As a national policy, maybe it is best to simply quarantine these luckless localities and let them fester. We need not worry about offending their leaders; we are fully cognizant of the thorough destruction they would gladly and fanatically work on America's economy, democracy and freely lived lives, had they the coercive power. Messrs Mamdani and Ocasio -Cortez are striving to gain support to do that very thing, nationwide. Sure, they are testing the waters , for now that is. They are Marxists and we need not dwell on the defacto meaning of that infamous term; history gifts us undeniable proof of the destitution , dysfunction, cynicism and terror which is the SURE product of their rule. Eg. we need not dwell on their intent to abolish our police and prisons. They would quickly restore them, to their own tyrannical purpose.
But President Trump is showing the way to deal with these ingrate wastrels, people who actually loath the processes which in the U.S. have provided a heretofore unimaginably high standard of freedom together with fantastic material well being and its myriad blessings. Think scarcity is redeeming? TRY IT, I'd say to them. They would have no good answer. THey think economic "justice" is guaranteed only by their "progressive " and "enlightened" dictatorship.
Dr. Waddy: I was going to back off my suggestion that we leave some hopelessly blue cities to fester and say instead simply send in the military wherever and whenever it is needed to protect the law abiding and back up mostly dutiful local police. But then that would only be beneficial if we have a common sense President. Yes, a DSA dictator might invest the military or paramilitary in chaotic cities but only to enforce the "well being" of those classes doctrinally favored by the far left. The traditionally positive, constructive and law abiding do not enjoy such exalted status.
ReplyDeleteJack, I would point out that the quest for nukes only makes an iota of sense if, someday, you acquire them, and thus far the Iranian leadership has, via its nuclear obsession, done tremendous damage to its own country, with nary a nuke to show for it...

Yes, we can only pity those who live under DSA misrule in our benighted cities, but then again they can leave anytime they like, and some red cities/states might even welcome them as "refugees" from neo-Marxism... Just a thought.
