Friends, a funny thing happened on the way to America's 250th birthday: arguably a majority of Americans forgot to celebrate, or even to care. This coincides with a steady rise in pessimism throughout our great land, but especially among leftists and Democrats, that threatens to choke off our patrimony and our potential. Today, therefore, is a time to be ecstatic, yes, but also a time to be...soberly concerned. A real patriot, after all, can be both!
"Dr. Waddy, it may be true (though I wonder) that some polls see plenty of folks checked out for our 250th. The Left is doing their darndest to spread pessimism.
ReplyDeleteBut as you suggest, there is a bright side. Republicans are holding on to the promise our land offers at high levels, even while Democrat numbers may have collapsed.
And then there's the Trumpster out there on the Mall, despite the storm, directing the Salute to America. He delivered a rousing, late-night speech on our heroes and history, followed by an incredible fireworks display that has been posted proudly all over social media.
That's the contrast that matters. As President Reagan reminded us, 'There are no easy answers, but there are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right.'
I see a 'Shining City on a Hill" opportunity ringing through those polls and the line seems clearly defined... the GOP owns American optimism and patriotism right now, and that's a very bright future indeed - IF - they can communicate that message effectively between now and November. I for one, have hope they can do that and get the Patriots out!

ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy and Richie et al from Jack: I agree with Richie's optimism, this President is a big winner and his tenure will, I think, finally be seen as one of monumental improvement . As people who are interested in history it is possible to empathize with Americans in the midst of crises which eventually turned out favorably. What if Washington had quit during the worst days, when he was getting routed across New Jersey or at Valley Forge?What if Lincoln had given up after the TERRIBLY discouraging defeat at Chancellorsville in May of 1863? Gettysburg came only a month after.
We are in a civilizational crisis now which could develop into a threat as profound as those we faced then. But like those times we have the GREAT good fortune of a gutsy, canny leader whose self sacrificing love for this country is manifest. We MUST support him, NOW.
Dr. Waddy from Jack: So redneck radical Platner's DSA/dem Maine Senatorial candidacy is probably headed for the ash heap of history. What a shameful phenomenom it is.
The DSA /dems are scrambling to display their skill at virtue signaling. "Why even the slightest hint of a wiff of a molecule of any possibility within the immutable laws of physics. . . of sexual assault or the very fleeting thought of it is ANETHEMA to us! "Ehh,that is of course, unless your name is Clinton and you are Presidential timber.
Well said, Richie! Yes, the political right OWNS optimism these days. Unfortunately, thanks to the media and social media, pessimism and cynicism are the order of the day (and maybe the century, if they have their way). Selling hope and even more so gratitude is getting tough. I'm less sanguine than you are that our conservative optimism will win us elections, but I'm 100% sure that we're right and they're wrong, which is a comfort!
ReplyDeleteJack: it is more than a little repugnant how the Left uses allegations of sexual harassment and/or assault to crush anyone they deem offensive, and by "offensive" I mean, more than anything, threatening to their prospects of political victory. Their naked opportunism and moral relativism know no bounds...and yet, sadly, the American people seem inured to it.
