Fording the Depths

Friends, it has not escaped the notice of (mostly Trump-hating) talking heads that a lot of U.S. military and intelligence assets are being directed towards Venezuela, and destabilizing the rogue regime of President Nicolas Maduro appears to be Job One.  Maduro is an anti-American socialist and, maybe, a drug sumggler.  He's been a thorn in America's side for years.  How far would Trump and Co. go to oust him?  No one knows for sure, but pressuring/insentivizing his key allies, especially in the military, to overthrow him and turn him over to the U.S. is the most likely scenario under which "regime change" could be achieved.  Meanwhile, the Trump Administration is increasingly hostile to the government of Colombia, led by another lefty, El Presidente Gustavo Petro.  This adds fuel to the fire, needless to say.

World Domination

Friends, today King Charles III, Defender of the (Anglican) Faith, and Pope Leo XIV, wicked papist, prayed together at the Vatican.  Wow!  Talk about burying the theological hatchet...  I know what most of you are thinking: this is a spiritual/strategic realignment of not only world-historical, but intergalactic, importance!  Think of it: the naval puissance of the British Empire allied with the unequaled wealth of the Roman Catholic Church.  This could spell world domination for a million years!!!  Last time I checked, the Royal Navy boasted 1400 ships and was the world's biggest by far.  Last time I checked, the Catholic Church controlled one-third of the arable land in Europe.  Of course, the last times I checked were in 1939 and 1300, respectively.  Assuming my information is still good, you better get used to bending the knee to the Roman-Anglican Mega-Church!  You heard it here first.

Whiplash

Friends, the Trump Administration's policies on the Russia-Ukraine War "evolve" so quickly that it's hard to keep up.  A few days ago, Trump and Putin were set to have another historic (if fruitless?) summit in Hungary.  Now, the summit is off and tighter sanctions on Russian oil companies have been unveiled.  What gives???  Whether the sanctions signify much, or will seriously impact Russia's war economy, is unclear, but the mixed signals sent by Trump and Co. do not appear to be breaking the strategic logjam.  I hope someone in the White House knows what they're doing, and that this back-and-forth doesn't mean that no one, in particular, is in charge.

In other news, North Carolina has joined Texas and Missouri in authoring new Congressional maps for 2026 that are designed to increase the number of Republicans in the House.  Hooray!  So far, not a single blue state has followed suit, although that may be coming, especially in La La Land.

Finally, what the are the chances that Republicans could pull off upsets this fall in either New Jersey or Virginia?  Probably not great, as both states voted for Kamala Harris by substantial margins.  Nevertheless, the GOP looks like it can keep things close, which in itself would be a moral/strategic victory, of sorts.

Pirouette

Friends, everyone loves the grandeur and pomp of the presidency -- when they love the man holding the office.  When they don't, of course, every display of ostentation is an offense against the spirit of democracy.  Well, I support Donald Trump, and I support his plan to add a ballroom to the White House.  In fact, I'm surprised it wasn't done long ago.  Since this ballroom is DJT's brainchild, I fully expect every surface to be gilded and/or jewel-encrusted...and I couldn't be happier!  Our is a great nation, and it requires a grand and majestic room in which to revel in said greatness.

In other news, the federal courts continue to give President Trump the backing he needs.  Once again, the gripes of a rogue district court judge have been set aside by a higher court that sees progressive/establishment obfuscation for what it is.  Long may it last!

King for a Day

Friends, the lefties are out in force again today, shaking their fists at Trump and Trumpery.  Good for them.  What could be more American than wasting an afternoon bellyaching?  Of course, Trump is no monarch, although, if it irritates the "progs" so much, I say let's enthrone him for just one day...  All hail His Majesty King Donald I!!!  P.S.  I don't want to be a pest, but surely a promotion to Emperor is called for?  I mean, DJT is kind of a big deal, and emperors trump kings every time.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c93xgyp1zv4o

In other news, George Santos, liar extraordinaire, has had his sentence of seven years in prison commuted by none other than the iron-fisted tyrant, Donald Trump.  I support this decision.  It's patently obvious that Santos was targeted by the Left for political reasons.  Sure, he's guilty of...lots of stuff, but solitary confinement seems like a pretty stiff penalty for being a fibber.  Let the man pay a reasonable penalty and try to get his life back on track.

This story puts the "Living God" in a whole new light!  Increasingly, people are using chatbots to "talk to God".  Chatbots can be amusing and enlightening, on some level, but I think it's worth remembering that essentially their role is to tell us what we want to hear.  Of course, quite a few priests and ministers are no better...

Finally, I encourage you to listen in to this week's Newsmakers broadcast to find out what I really think about the "No Kings" movement, Gaza, the NYC mayor's race, Trump's upcoming summit with Putin, and more!  As usual, it's a feast for the ears.

Dropping Like Flies

Friends, yet another adversary of DJT has been indicted by the new-and-improved Department of Justice.  Bravo!  Is John Bolton innocent or guilty?  That's for a jury to decide.  For now, all we know is that he's squirming, along with a great many prominent Trump haters nationwide...

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2025/10/16/former-nsa-john-bolton-indicted-over-mishandling-of-classified-documents/

In other news, President Zelensky is coming to Washington, and he'll be begging for Tomahawk missiles, which Trump may be somewhat less likely to proffer, now that he's got another date with Vladimir Putin.  This one will take place in Hungary in the next few weeks.  (I recommend the goulash!)  Will any of this change the basic dynamics of the interminable and pointless war in Ukraine?  Don't hold your breath.

Finally, a big debate happened tonight in NYC, featuring the three major candidates for mayor: Mamdani, Cuomo, and Sliwa.  The polls say Mamdani has a big edge, but what no one has explained to me is how ranked choice voting is likely to impact the outcome.  Assuming Sliwa's votes go eventually to Cuomo, this could be a tight one!

A Paler Shade of Black?

Friends, for decades, one of the primary aims of Congressional redistricting -- whether anyone admitted it or not -- was the maximization of the number of black Democrats in Congress.  But how do you achieve this?  Not by packing as many blacks as possible into all-black districts.  Heck, no!  Not by distributing blacks evenly over all districts.  Not a chance!  You do it by putting a lot of blacks -- a critical mass of, say, 40-60% -- in as many districts as possible.  Then, said districts will naturally choose a black man or woman as the Democratic candidate for Congress, and that black man or woman will almost certainly win.  Presto: the Congressional Black Caucus (which wouldn't even dream of admitting a Republican) grows and grows and grows.  Well, the Supreme Court is thinking about blowing up this unwritten rule in American politics by insisting that race play no role whatsoever in redistricting.  Probably, this would mean fewer blacks in Congress, and possibly more Republicans in Congress.  Ergo, Democrats will cry "RACISM!!!", when, in reality, this result would actually reflect the removal of racist intent from the process.  It's a tangled web, for sure, but I encourage SCOTUS to do the right thing and extirpate "reverse racism" from our elections.  The fact that Republicans stand to gain, well...that's icing on the cake.

In other news, Trump's tariffs sure haven't worked out the way the experts said they would.  Not only has the economy not fallen off a cliff, but the markets have soared, while inflation remains well under control.  One surprising (to some) benefit of the tariffs has been that the additional cost of importing goods, and the uncertainties regarding those costs going forward, has encouraged manufacturers to "reshore" production, i.e. bring it home to the USA.  Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, is doing that in a big way!

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2025/10/15/trump-tariff-triumph-stellantis-to-invest-13-billion-in-rust-belt-bringing-overseas-production-back-to-u-s/

Finally, this article may exaggerate somewhat the significance of the underlying poll, but it remains the case that young leftists are growing increasingly militant.  It would not take much in the way of intemperate rhetoric -- and there's plenty of that flying around -- to light the fuse of youth unrest, not to mention baby-faced assassins.  If you ask me, social media and media companies have a moral, and possibly a legal, obligation to bring this radicalized, hateful discourse under some kind of control, which means basically deplatforming those who cross "the line", wherever that mythical line may be located.  The alternative is steadily increasing political violence.

More Trump=More Joy!

Friends, peace is breaking out in the Middle East, and many observers are inclined to credit...Donald Trump???  The mainstream media will be gnashing its teeth, for sure.  The release of the hostages opens what we hope will be a new and more pacific chapter in Israel's relations with Palestinians.  With any luck, this is the beginning of the end of Hamas as well.  Bravo, DJT!  And, as he pointed out, kudos to Marco Rubio, who did a lot of the heavy lifting.

https://www.breitbart.com/middle-east/2025/10/13/trump-proclaims-peace-in-jerusalem-beginning-of-the-age-of-faith-and-hope/

Somewhat negating the positive mood today is ongoing talk of escalating the Russia-Ukraine War by sending Ukraine longer-range missiles with which to strike deep inside Mother Russia.  From my perspective, the Trump policy on the Russia-Ukraine War is mostly a continuation of the Biden policy...only more provocative and, arguably, more reckless.  My hope is that this is all trash talking designed to motivate Russia to accept a deal.  Otherwise, this nasty war could get nastier.

Finally, Happy Birthday to the United States Navy, which celebrates 250 years of protecting the liberties and commerce of the American people.  The USA still rules the waves, as far as we know, although developments in missile technology, and our reliance on Chinese exports of rare earths and critical technology, leave us guessing about how long our naval predominance will last.

Payback

Friends, New York State Attorney General Letitia James has been indicted for bank fraud related to her purchase of an investment property in Virginia.  Is this weaponization of the justice system to attack an enemy of El Presidente Trump?  Well, maybe, but the proof, as always, is in the pudding, and the "weaponization" part will fall pretty flat unless the DOJ can get a conviction.  I wish them well!

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4g9n4xj904o

In other news, the latest poll of the NYC mayor's race shows Zohran Mamdani with a comfortable lead...or is it so comfortable?  They have "ranked choice voting" in the Big Apple, which means that, if all Sliwa's supporters choose Andrew Cuomo as their second choice, he could actually win the race.  How likely is this?  I'm not sure, but I wouldn't count out the irrepressible Andy just yet.

Peace For Our Time?

Friends, it appears that the Israelis and Hamas have reached preliminary agreement on a peace plan proposed by...bloodthirsty warlord Donald J. Trump???  Now, that is surprising!  Who gets the credit is of course very unimportant.  That the war should come to an end, and the people of Gaza given an opportunity to build new lives under a politically neutral, competent, and public spirited international administration, is what matters.  That Israel's security concerns be credibly addressed is also, needless to say, absolutely necessary.  Can DJT square this circle?  Let's hope so.

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2025/10/08/report-hamas-agreed-to-ceasefire-in-gaza-may-release-all-hostages/

In other news, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker says that Trump wants to deploy the National Guard in Chicago because he has "dementia".  Would it follow that Joe Biden didn't deploy the National Guard because he was dementia-free?  Not necessarily!  I tell you, these Democrats live in an alternate reality in which all derogatory claims about Trump are, by definition, true.  Is Trump sometimes impulsive, even childish?  Sure.  But the fact is...Trump is Trump.  He hasn't changed.  He's as sane, and as spritely, as he ever was.  And, even if we admitted that some of the Dems' fantastical claims about Trump were true, what does it say about the Democrats that they can't beat an opponent who is "self-evidently" a criminal, an imbecile, a lunatic, a pathological liar, etc etc etc.?  I mean, if that's what the American people want, lefties, isn't it time you packed it up and moved to Canada, or France, or Sweden, or wherever it is that democratic socialism rules the roost?  Food for thought.
