Trump or Bust?

Friends, both Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis appeared at a major Republican dinner in Iowa last night, and Trump claimed -- not for the first time -- that only he can beat Joe Biden.  Of course, DeSantis says the opposite.  Interestingly, polls have revealed very different results on this question.  Some have DJT performing better than DeSantis.  Some have DeSantis with a definite edge over Trump.  No doubt this reflects differences in polling methodology.  Right now the RealClearPolitics polling average has Biden one point ahead of Trump and two points ahead of DeSantis -- suggesting there's a pretty good chance that either one of them could beat Biden, or lose to him, or tie (if such a thing is possible).  Anyway, all the polls right now reflect a substantial number of undecided voters, and both sides probably feel that these will break decisively their way.  Bottom line: we don't know, and can't know, given all the imponderables (like felony charges) which GOP candidate stands the best chance of winning.

Here's an excellent and comprehensive look at the question of whether Hunter Biden should have registered as a "foreign agent".  He didn't.  Lots of people get in legal hot water in those circumstances.  Not Hunter, of course.  He's got the golden ticket.

The criticism that Sleepy Joe has received for not acknowledging the existence of one of his grandchildren must have stung, because he recently decided to wish the little girl well.  Bravo!  I nominate Joe Biden for Grandfather of the Year!

  1. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Really, how do his handlers propose to get Biden through this crucible? He's obviously impaired by age and if his legal maalox moments proliferate the stress might be too much for anyone so disabled to bear. Something to consider: his puppeteers may be loathe to relinquish their power; perhaps they see theirs as an incipient institution worth establishing. Who then could be their successor factotum? Paul Ryan might be willing. But if not him who?Gillebrand would actually do nicely if Schumer would release her from her indenture.

  2. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Perhaps impeachment will come to be a routine rite of passage for a President or even subordinate office holder . Popular election would be but the first step. Some countries and American states have two stage processes for establishing office holders, yes? Since we know the US is but one among many equals, nothing special, perhaps even no account, who are we to dismiss this thought?

  3. Dr. Waddy from Jack Oh give Hunter a break. Many many thousands of foreign agents cross our southern border and they don't register. I mean, why single him out just because he's connected. Have mercy!

  4. Dr. Waddy from Jack: UFOs ( I refuse to honor that byzantine and monstrous acronym which is now inexplicably fashionable; after all, I denounce unwarranted prolixity in my own expression). Once again I'm going to venture on a subject you have not touched on yet but which I am confident you will. Please let me know if you' d rather I did not presume so. I am about 50% persuaded they do obtain in our skies or depths. My guess is that they are Earth dwelling human like time travelers from the past or the future. I read a well reasoned article in Science magazine which held it almost prohibitively unlikely that intelligent life exists elsewhere in our galaxy! Too many natural coincidences would have had to recur elsewhere. Too, considering the unfathomable breadth of the universe, this may explain their frequent appearances on our perhaps unremarkable planet. Being very advanced intellectually they may well purposefully keep their distance from us. Perhaps they observe us for scholarly reasons but maybe their intent is simply recreational. I The unprecedented attention they are getting now may well have mundane origins but I haven't figured them out.If they are interstellar, could it be we are citizens of some vast entity?

  5. Dr. Waddy from Jack: I believe I have read that some scientists think time travel to be possible and that we may already comprehend the necessary technology.

  6. Jack, unlike many conservatives, I don't think the Dems would have all that much trouble replacing Biden. I mean, Biden is Exhibit A to the fact that candidate quality doesn't matter much, when you've got the media, social media, Hollywood, and virtually every other major institution carrying water for you. Take Gillibrand as an example. She's nothing to write home about, but she'd have lots of advantages over Joe Biden. And, if all you're looking for is a "front man (or woman)", why not her? No, my feeling is that we need to breathe life into Sleepy Joe, if at all possible. If you get to pick your enemies in politics, he's exactly the kind of straw man you would choose.

Jack, you may be right that impeachment will become much more common at all levels of government. Removal, on the other hand, is generally tough to achieve. Ergo, impeachment not resulting in removal will, I suspect, increasingly be dismissed as meaningless, or as a political stunt, which in many ways it is.

Hmm. Time travel, eh? I haven't the foggiest idea whether it's possible, although it happens often enough in fiction, so maybe... As for life elsewhere in the universe, statistically, given the size of the universe, it's a near certainty. Intelligent life elsewhere in the galaxy, though? That depends on whether the specific circumstances that produced it here are the ONLY circumstances that could, which I very much doubt. No, I suspect it obtains in many places, BUT that doesn't mean that it's easy to get from here to there, or there to here. Basically, it comes down to a question of whether faster than light travel is possible. If it is, then I see no reason why we couldn't be visited by little gray men. If it isn't, we're probably alone and likely to stay that way. But, if time travel is on offer, sign me up, because the trajectory we're on now is not at all promising!

  7. Dr.Waddy from Jack: I'd sign up too. My first stop would be the Gettysburg Address. Nix onthe future.
