Fighting the Good Fight

Recently, General Kelly got himself in hot water for daring to praise (gasp!) General Robert E. Lee, the scrupulously honorable commander of the Army of Northern Virginia.  I feel General Kelly's pain, insofar as I too have been lambasted for having the temerity to state the obvious about Lee.  Here is a fine analysis of the issue of Lee's legacy:

  1. Dr. Waddy: Thank you for posting this and thank good fortune for our President and his good judgement in empowering a man who does not shrink from honoring General Lee. I'm a Union reenactor and glad to be one. I think it best, given the history of the 20th century, that the war produced a united and strong America, ready to face the harrowing challenges of the 20th century and that slavery was ended. But I also cherish the memory of those who defended their Southern homes in a most American manner and defy those who would suppress that memory.
