Friends, don't look now, but it appears that Democrats are about to cave on the government shutdown. They're agreeing to reopen the government without any of their core demands being met. A cynical observer might conclude that, now that the shutdown has served its purpose of helping the Dems to win the (rather unimportant) 2025 elections, they are ready to once again make nice and let people eat, fly, visit national parks, etc. Of course, the shutdown probably had very little to do with the election results, and in fact it may have all been a gigantic waste of time, but then few things that come out of Washington, D.C. are anything but, if we're to be honest with ourselves.
In other news, President Trump likes tariffs (no surprise) and he thinks that people who disagree with him are "FOOLS" (even less of a surprise). What's a little arresting is his plan to give American taxpayers a $2,000 "dividend" based on tariff revenues. Uhhh, ever heard of a little thing called the deficit??? It's kinda huge. I am strongly against this idea, and, if DJT thinks it would make every American love him, well, that ain't gonna happen!
President Trump attended an NFL game today between the Detroit Lions and the Washington Definitely-Not-Redskins. He made quite a splash, and Air Force One even did a low-level flyover. Neat!
Finally, a major global news organization, the BBC, has been humiliated by the revelation that it deliberately and deceptively edited two clips of Donald Trump in the lead-up to the November 2024 election. The BBC's director general and its news CEO have resigned as a result. What??? Accountability in the mainstream media? Is that a thing? Boy, color me impressed!

Dr. Waddy from Jack: I think that unlike the "American" MSM, the BBC is capable of shame. Dr. Waddy, does that make sense to you? I know the British media often engages in lurid commentary on the lives of the royals but my impression is that the BBC, though not a conservative bastion, still retains civilization. Since such high ranking administrators , who might through political conviction have enabled such potentially damaging misrepresentation, have resigned ,it might, as is so often true, have been "urged" upon them in lieu of dismissal. Whether or not that would indicate sincere official disapproval of their actions , the result is the same; it discredits and defines their actions as calumny.
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy from Jack: President Trump's insolence in making regular appearances at mass events burns the far left/Dem arse! No timidity there for him and how it ravages their delicate psyches. How do you like reaping this whirlwind Schumer?
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy from Jack: The provision of actual monetary benefit to American households and crediting it to his tariff policy is a canny political proposal by President Trump. Let's see the Dems brand it with the label of profligate misuse of taxpayers' money when it is they who so exemplify unfettered direction of unlimited taxpayer funds to their "inarguably" justified pet causes like the National Endowment for the ( far leftist approved ) ersatz "Arts". And that is only a hint of their proven presumptuous use of taxes to make serfs out of those paying taxes ;to take from the productive and give to the willfully unproductive.
ReplyDeleteThey have no moral authority on the matter and they ought to shut up but their obsessive and commanding emotions will not excuse them of it.
President Trump has said that the income from his tariffs can provide both deficit reduction and direct benefit to Americans. His tariffs have so far been spectacularly successful measures taken by a gutsy, no nonsense player and his present proposal for direct remuneration of Americans can be credited to his horse sense but may also be viewed as recompense for the apologetic acquiescence of former administrations to plunder of our naive national generosity.
Hmm. Are British media executives capable of shame? I couldn't say, since I can't look into their (dark) hearts, but they are capable of going away, and that I appreciate!
ReplyDeleteJack, I agree that Trump's offer of a $2,000 dividend is good politics -- mainly because it will never happen. But he can still say he tried.
