Donny Reb Can't Run

Friends, as if four separate attempts to throw Trump in the slammer via felony charges weren't enough (combined with a revived libel suit from E. Jean Carroll), now the Dems are dusting off the tired old argument that DJT is ineligible to run again for president because he engaged in "insurrection" against these United States, and the 14th Amendment says that's a no-no.  Their evidence?  The January 6th Committee declared Trump an outlaw, and ergo he is one!  Hard to argue with that flawless logic, isn't it?  You and I view this argument as utterly bogus, but make no mistake that most Dems and quite a few RINOs take it very seriously.  One or more blue states WILL attempt to exclude Trump from the ballot, and this question will be litigated all the way to the Supreme Court.  I'd like to think that SCOTUS will frisk this anti-democratic nonsense aside with the appropriate contempt -- but, even if they do, the Dems will just say "the fix was in" and those Trump-appointed judges saved his bacon.  The big takeaway?  There's little or nothing the Trump-haters won't do to keep him out of the Oval Office.  And they're just getting started!!!

In other news, Trump will surrender to authorities in Fulton County, Georgia on Thursday, and the terms of his bail will include a prohibition against the "intimidation" of witnesses or court officials via social media.  Well, good luck with that!  I believe it's very likely that the Fulton County court will hold Trump in contempt, and may try to jail him or impose a gag order that prevents him from communicating in the midst of the '24 campaign.  Things could get ugly, and, once again, it will be up to the federal courts to protect Trump's right to free speech.  (Even if they do, I strongly suspect that Google and Facebook may pull the plug on him.)

I don't know much about this Ramaswamy guy, but I like the fact that he's willing to molest some sacred cows on the way to the White House.  What do I mean?  He's saying that U.S. aid to Israel should be reconsidered, and he's absolutely right.  We give over $3 billion a year to a country that's rich, powerful, and isn't meaningfully threatened by its neighbors and hasn't been for decades.  Why?  Because no one in Washington, D.C. is willing to take on the Israel lobby.  Well, that's silly.  Let's give money to people who actually need it (for a change).

Finally, as everyone knows, mortgage payments have gone through the roof, and car prices and car payments are no different.  For now, home sales and car sales remain robust, but you have to wonder how long consumers can stay in the game.  Personally, I think it's always been foolish to buy a new car, or even a late model used car, unless, I suppose, you've got more money than sense, as some people do.  There are some wonderful cars available for well under $10k, so...why pay more???

  1. Dr. Waddy from Jack: I think buying long used cars is like actively playing the stock market; considerable tolerance for risk is best.If you are working you most often need reasonably reliable transportation. If you are retirement age you may well be less willing to deal with the car trouble everyone experiences. There are late model used cars which offer much reliability and considerable savings over these hair raisingly expensive new ones. Some still have warranties. Some new car dealers keep quality trade ins and sell them at the same sites as their new ones. They often auction off trade ins of less value to exclusively used car dealers. I have had much success buying late model used from new car dealers with high standards.

  2. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Lets do some plausible speculation on what might transpire if DJT wins and the antiamericans resolve to deny him office. I suppose they would try to steal the election much as Gore did, with unrelenting finagling of the results. Their ridiculous misuse of the 14th Amendment may be useful just now in muddying the waters for Trump but in the decisive
necessity of a post election controversy their disingenuous "construction" of it would have little chance of surviving judgement by a lawful Scotus. Could a convicted DJT be" lawfully" prevented?I would think his running mate would be inaugurated and immediately become temporary President. But if the Administration refuses to turn over the keys, what then? Is use of force by the defeated administration a real possibility?

  3. Dr. Waddy from Jack: A plausible possibility of national crisis and disorder unseen since 1861 may well be at hand. Perhaps this is intended by the neo marxist antiamericans in order to foster political collapse giving them the opening to pick up the pieces and impose totalitarian rule. Their unrelenting onslaught on DJT strongly suggests that they see a final reckoning developing. Why else would they go to such unprecedented presumption in seeking to destroy him? Sure, he stung them to the very quick with his insolent imposition on their march to "justice" and they are incapable of containing their precious emotions but even they have intended in this vendetta vindiction far beyond putting uppity DJT in his "place"!

  4. Has anyone REALLY asked why the Leftist pukes have been on Trump without cease since his original run for president back in 2016? He must be a MIGHTY threat to their plans to lead the country into an Orwellian future. I'm not seeing that malice towards the other Republican candidates. Bet you, the average Leftist rank and file asshole on the street could not even tell anyone why they hate Trump so much. I hear shit like, well I don't like his hairstyle, or he talks too much, or some such low level slop. Nothing really substantial such as I don't like his foreign policy, or his immigration attitude sucks, or he doesn't do enough about gun control. I was talking to someone at the exercise center I go to, who is college educated with a respectable job, and normal looks (whatever the hell that means these days), and they believe that Trump is tied up with the Mafia. Say what! They voted for Biden and still think he is the "cat's pajamas". My guess is that if the Leftist pukes can't lock Trump up, they will put out a contract on him.

  5. Dr. Waddy et al from Jack: Anonymous makes some good points. No doubt there are plenty of people who reflexively despise DJT. Many may dislike his New Yawki bravado or his past frivolous reputation, thinking the latter disqualifies him for leadership. Also, many people of good will think him to be an unwelcome obstacle to what they see as beneficial progress. He certainly did upset the applecart in 2016 by sending Hillary to Chardonayville. (for the time being perhaps).

  6. Dr. Waddy et al from Jack: But as for the knowingly neo marxist antiamerican left, which controls this Administration, directly or by intimidation, their now obvious intent is, I think, forced "fundamental transformation" of a country which does not deserve to endure the assured suffering that would produce. It has been their life's work since the '60s and Obama was the first to publicly endorse it. After their juvenile spasms in the '60s and early '70s they deigned to rejoin the "establishment" in order to rot it from within. They have succeeded with working harrowing dissemblance. But they haven't been able to close the deal yet. Slick Willy had one thing on his mind:getting "high" any ol' way.Obama let them down, he couldn't be bothered, he got what he wanted anyway. And Hillary fluffed, "deplorably".Ironically, DJT's insolent imposition has, they think, given them the chance to strike decisively by destroying him, collapsing our society, legality and polity,in mayhem and hastening to pick up the pieces after their practiced totalitarian resolve.

  7. Jack, you're right that well-used cars often throw one a few curveballs, but I've very seldom been unable to get from Point A to Point B -- and, in my experience, driving a new car doesn't entirely obviate those risks, either. But you're right: the only good reason to "pay more" is peace of mind and reliability. Everything else is mere vanity (which I heartily endorse).

Jack, I watched Ramasmawy for the first time last night, and I was not impressed. His honeyed words came across like those of a used car salesman. Come to think of it, used car salesmen have regular success with me, so maybe his believability doesn't even reach that relatively low mark.

Jack, I believe you're right that the lefties would contest the election ad infinitum if Trump nominally won it, and they would have infinitely greater resources at their disposal than he did in 2020 -- like an utterly compliant media, for example. You say SCOTUS would slap them down. Are you sure? A "conservative" justice can't be relied upon to uphold traditional marriage, apparently. A "conservative" justice would still be one living in the swamp, it seems to me, and would never live down the re-imposition on the nation of President Trump. I don't know what SCOTUS would do, in that predicament, and, if they did side with Trump, I don't know that Biden and Co. would take any notice, necessarily. They've been building up to a war on SCOTUS, and that would be a fine pretext.

Anonymous (Ray?), you're right that most Trump-haters can barely express any rational reason for their distaste. Christie last night was a good case in point. He cited no evidence or examples. He just said that we can't "normalize" such "behavior". Uh huh. Such as? For the Never Trumpers, it's all so obvious that it needn't be said or explained. Trump is BAAAAAAAAAAAAD. He's the essence of bad. Everything bad is Trump, and everything Trump is bad. You're right -- most anti-Trumpers believe implicitly that he's a gangster, a rapist, a spy. You name it, he's done it. The "quality control" node in these people's brains short-circuited a long time ago.

Agreed: we can by no means rule out Trump's murder, and we would be wise to consider what might come next.

Jack, you're absolutely right: Trump's presidency, for everything else that might be said about it, has brought THE LEFT closer to dictatorial power than ever before in history. Someday we may look back on 2016 as the definition of a Pyrrhic victory.

  8. Dr. Waddy from Jack: Hooray for your mirthful self abnegation concerning your possible vulnerability to slick used car vendors. LOL!
