Friends, I've been scarce lately. Sorry about that. As you know, I live life in the fast lane, and sometimes that makes blogging tough. Nonetheless, I'm back, and what's on my mind is the seismic changes in the attitudes of Republicans to Donald Trump and his viability as a 2024 presidential candidate. Depending on the poll you consult, Trump is either ahead, behind, or way behind, and that's a pretty big margin of error, as I'm sure you'll agree. In any case, at least some of the polls indicate that substantial numbers of people who used to be Trumpers -- me, for instance -- are ready to jump ship and plunk for someone like Ron DeSantis, who seems less error-prone and more, well, successful as a politician. I've always assumed that at least half of Republicans would stick with Trump come hell or high water, and in the end that may prove to be the case. To that point, consider what effect it will have when the DOJ (almost inevitably) prosecutes Trump. The nation's Trump weariness may escalate, but a lot of Republicans and conservatives will automatically gravitate towards a man they regard as the victim -- indeed, the greatest victim of all time -- of leftist chicanery. In a perverse way, therefore, Trump may be hoping that the Justice Department (ham-handedly) pursues him, because it might be the quickest, easiest way to redefine the terms of a race that's increasingly slipping out of his grasp. Stay tuned!
Dr.Waddy from Jack: These developments do cast considerable doubt on the possibility of DJT returning to the White House. The MSM onslaught on him continues apace. Perhaps they are going for an early victory so that they can concentrate their partisan force on DeSantis or anyone insolent enough to challenge them. Pravdahood beckons them.
ReplyDeleteDr.Waddy from Jack: I was hoping that resentment over the left's vicious, vindictive campaign of calumny but most of all, consummate hate for a human being named Donald Trump would have generated a stronger reaction from the real America last Nov. Too many of us still do not, cannot perhaps, accept the appalling truth: those who have savaged him would surely savage us should they usurp full power.Their motivation would remain; that is, murderous elitist outrage at untermenschen who dare to express blasphemous resistance to their irrefutable justice! Mobilization of completely arbitrary totalitarian
ReplyDeletesway is their fondest dream and they wax evermore reckless in confirming it. DJT has garnered their hyperbolic antipathy by freely excoriating them and worst of all,. "horrid, most horrid" ,actually DOING them unendurable "wrong" (three lawful Scotus Justices).
True, Jack: most of what befell Trump awaits anyone and everyone who dares to confront the Left and, worse, beat them even in an unfair fight. The weapons deployed against Trump were unprecendented, but they can easily be repurposed, and DeSantis and anyone else who chooses to run had better be prepared for the onslaught. The truth, though, is that the Left also relies on Republicans and conservatives to damage themselves, and Trump was obliging in that regard. By contrast, the Dem machine in Florida, and quite a bit of their national firepower, has already been turned against DeSantis. So far he's withstood the punishment remarkably well. What's more, he seems unfazed by it, and all the pressure never triggers self-destructive tirades on his part. That's refreshing, to say the least.
ReplyDeleteDr.Waddy from Jack: The subhuman Khmer Rouge were known to put the following consolation in the cells of the condemned (you will receive this justice) "because you are a chap who dare to thwart the revolution!" Essential leftist conviction!
