Nordic Nemesis?

Friends, it seems like the Russians just got done chasing those imperialistic Swedes out of their backyard, and now they're back!  Okay, sure -- the Swedes haven't been a major military power since the beginning of the 18th century, but, when those Aryan Supermen put their mind to something, there's no telling how much damage they can do!  Just ask the guy with the funny mustache.  Adolf...something.  Look him up.

In all seriousness, the accession of Sweden and Finland into NATO, if it happens, is a game-changing development in terms of the broad sweep of European history, and it won't give the Russians a warm,. fuzzy feeling either.  This is just one of the topics that Brian and I cover in this week's edition of the Newsmaker Show.  Brian and I also talk about Elon Musk's brash declaration that he might, this Fall, vote Republican...for the first time in his life.  We also cover the fallout from Tuesday's primaries, where we stand in a potential Trump candidacy in '24, the prospects for a recession in the next few months and how that could play out politically, the remarkably short lifespan of the Biden Administration's bureau of "disinformation", and the "ultra MAGA" canard now featuring so prominently in the Democrats' talking points.

When we get to "This Day in History", Brian and I talk about the (failed) pro-democracy movement in China in 1989, and how it laid the groundwork for the collapse of communism elsewhere; the significance of D-Day in Allied strategy in WWII; and the curious 1967 agreement to prohibit the deployment of nuclear weapons in outer space, and where we stand with "missile defense" now.

Man, oh man!  This is quite a show, people.  Maybe the best radio show ever taped?  I dunno.  I might be biased...

  1. Dr. Waddy: A very fecund broadcast this was. I think President Trump struck and still strikes a very visceral chord in so many Americans! He was the first non rino since President Reagan and alot of today's electorate has no experience of President Reagan but they do remember President Trump!. A very good friend of mine, from a solidly real America setting ,said to me: "he (Trump) says what I want to say!" The devotion of the real America to this brash erstwhile New Yawka is based , I think, in that. "The guy understands us and is willing to stand up for us (eg. THREE lawful Scotus justices and the Keystone Pipeline)" . In my view, he MUST be the candidate in 2024; I see Trump signs and flags and shirts all over the place in my real America! If he runs against a catastrophically discredited Pino Biden he will probably win. And if he pairs up with DeSantis, being that he can only serve one term, he may bolster his chances! Yeah he can be crude but who gives a good goddam? He is one of us!

  2. Dr.Waddy from Jack: I liked your comment on the apparent premature soul searching by the dems. They are scared of being marginalized and so rightfully thus!

  3. Dr. Waddy from Jack : The Rus may remember the infusion of thousands of Swedish volunteers alongside the Finns in the '40s. The Swedes "forgot" to bring with them, when they went back, their superlative Swedish Mauser rifles! Now the Finns had arms superior to those given the Reds but those Mausers were surely welcome and no doubt claimed many a Rus. I have one; they are good for hunting.

  4. Dr.Waddy: I would guess the Rus would think twice about bombing the Swedes. The Swedes are superlative airmen and have for decades planned against the Rus. I do appreciate the humor in your introductory paragraph recalling Russo-Swedish conflicts of old. Sweden probably does not view a present prospect of conflict with the Rus with any detachment. To have broken with their VERY 20th century tested stance has to have been inspired by very well measured concern!

  5. Dr.Waddy from Jack: Your observation that the Rus observe the present combat to be between the "West" and the dissimilarly discredited Rus forc

  7. Jack, I know millions of Americans share your view that there is no one who could be an adequate substitute for Trump in 2024. I think we can all agree on one thing: he's one-of-a-kind!

Yes, if I were the Dems, I'd be afraid of the coming judgement of the American people in November, too! The disinformation board seems like an awfully odd issue on which to mount a tactical retreat, though. I mean, wouldn't it be better to make it look like they have a plan to deal with the economy, the border, or rampant crime? Moving to the center on even one of these issues could bring dividends...but then again, it would risk the ire of the hard left.

Jack, in my opinion the Swedes' distaste for Russian "aggression" is understandable, but I would not regard their "concern" as "well measured". Seems to me that the ideal way to maintain Swedish security (and prosperity) is to steer a steady and neutral course. What does Sweden gain by joining NATO? A enhanced likelihood of becoming embroiled in a NATO-Russia conflict -- that's what! No, I think the Swedes and Finns are acting rashly and emotionally. In other words, they're being very un-Scandinavian!

  8. Dr. Waddy from Jack. Another erasure! Anyway: I think the Disinformation Office idea and its proposed obviously bigoted manager may have been a red herring by dems fully aware that their far left intimidators have goten them in very democratic trouble with the real America!

  9. Dr.Waddy from Jack: Their purpose: to distract attention and counter concerns from and about their very devoted intransigence on "socially beneficial inflation, forced revulsion towards gas powered vehicles, forgiveness and resultant recompense for vicious, 'socially justified 'criminal savages, indoctrination of young children through the established education 'system'with leftist convictions on race, parentage, American history and sex and, on ehh, abortion itself"

  10. Dr.Waddy from Jack: Consequently: "why see, we aren't inflexible far leftists at all!. Oh yes, we disdain them too, trust us. We mean, look at our good ol' Scranton blue collar Joe Biden. You don't think radicals would have embraced him in 2020? Nahhh!"

  11. Dr. Waddy from Jack: But with respect, I see Sweden's courageously consistent neutral stance in WW II ,against everyone, (including the intensely harrowing and very approximate murderous Nazis) as evidence of Swedish defiance and strength .Cold war Swedish defence agains tthe Rus was manifest. Well, Russian defeat in Ukraine may have inspired, first, a Swedish thumb in the eye of present day Rus but also, today, the promise that construction of Swedish self defense may be conducted with attention to present Rus repulse in Ukraine and Rus response to it!In anticipation of what the proven puissant Rus can do and of their nuclear capabilities, the Swedes and Finns may have taken what they, historically schooled, regard as a plausible hint and now seek the Nato nuclear umbrella!

  12. Hmm. You think the Disinformation Board was simple misdirection and/or an attempt to ingratiate themselves with the political center, by canceling the cancelers? I dunno. Methinks you may be giving these dunderheads too much credit...

Of course, the Swedes and Finns see the situation as you do. They believe that NATO membership can only strength their protection against Russian aggression. I guess I have a lot less confidence in NATO than you or they do! NATO still seems like 90% bluster and 10% American firepower to me, and we Americans have proven that we're capable of being fair-weather friends.
